KNOWLEGDE IS POWER!
Well I am deeply disappointed that this book is no longer being published but I must emphasize that James Miller has done well bringing forth the true struggle of the Kooris of Australia. This hardcover extravaganza tells it like it is! Although one would not want to hear it, or rather admit it, the truth must be told. This is a book that I feel should be placed on every black studies course around the world. I'd also like to emphazise that a book like this raises the question: should there be an indigenous course integrated in high school curriculums? I say yes, read Miller's "Koori A Will To Win" and you'll agree to yes as well! Don't miss out on a chance to learn of the struggle, despair and survival of the Kooris of Australia. We can all learn from the world's most fascinating culture and it's not too late. I hope James goes on-line often and reads this because I'd really like to thank him for giving me the opportunity to be proud of my "black self"!

This is by far the most helpful book used in my preaching.
I am, admittedly, a bit biased in the reviewing of this book, having been the first recipient of the original copy. However, I have found it to be immensely helpful for me in preparing for sermons, in the act of preaching, and in instructing others on the spiritual act of preaching. I would highly recommend it for anyone involved in any form of public speaking.

The Metaphysics of Nudity

Eye-opening & humorous with a significant message.
I picked up "Metaphysics of Nudity" because I was fortunate enough to connect with and have had the pleasure of a continuing correspondence with the author. With the thought of getting to know him a bit better I decided to read his book. Under normal circumstances, it isn't a novel I would have read as my interests lie elsewhere, however, my curiosity peaked to a point I wanted to know more. I was immediately captured. As I turned each page I could barely wait to get to the next. When I noticed I was nearing the end I forced myself to set it aside to prevent the lost feeling you get when finishing a book. It sat for about an hour before I retrieved and finished it that evening only wishing there was more to read.

This book is fast paced, easy to read yet somewhat poetic, sexy yet tasteful, humorous yet sentimental, spiritual but not overly so, entertaining yet eye-opening.

The three main characters who have backgrounds in the entertainment business are engaging, amusing, intellectual, fun-loving and human. As they travel together across country from LA to NY they develop stronger relationships and learn from each other how to look at certain aspects of life that we all take for granted. With courage they search deep within to discover what we all should, as a population, be so lucky to understand. I cannot compare it to any other literature I have read because I have read nothing else like it, but, without reservation, I highly recommend "Metaphysics of Nudity" and encourage anyone to give it a try despite what you may be "into" at that moment. Enjoy.

Simple but thrilling cuisine from a culinary superstar
There are two things which make this book different. First, the food is a brilliant example of the new style of 'fusion' food of which John Torode, as I understand it, was one of the pioneers. And second, it is beautifully written by Sarah Francis: witty, informative, enticing and clear. I buy a lot of cookbooks and I would rate this one easily in my top 5. The other great thing is that these recipes actually work, which is a major plus for a cookbook, and far from the norm. Torode combines classic ingredients from east and west to create fantastic dishes which seem completely unforced, and yet wonderfully original. One last note, the photos are beautiful, and give a vivd sense of Torode's food. A couple of months ago, the book won the James Beard award.

Comprehensive Overview of Period Finishes
This is an excellent book for the professional designer or decorator looking for a comprehensive catalog of "out of the ordinary" finishes. The finishes reviewed are generally european in heritage, although many were imported to the US during the last 2 centuries. This is not a handbook for the weekend "do-it-yourself" decorator/painter as the finishes illustrated require multiple steps and practice to attain the desired look. The book is an excellent resource when discussing finishes and 'looks'with a professional painter/finisher. Additionally, the photographs are of a fine enough quality to help the reader understand the relationship of the color, technique and texture to the surrounding room. This should help the reader to visually conceive the design before the project execution and thereby minimize 'mistakes'. Enjoy!

Great Little Primer for Load Dispatchers
Part of my job with a large midwestern power company is to train load dispatchers. I'm constantly on the lookout for good material. Power System Operations by Miller is one of the best textbooks I've found to train non-degreed system operators. I used the first edition myself when I was a new load dispatcher, and I found it to be a great self-study guide.

One problem with the latest (third) edition, there are no answers provided for the questions at the end of the chapter. This is no problem if the book is used in a classroom as the instructor should be able to figure them out. But for self-study it is absolutely necessary for the publisher to provide the answers to the chapter tests. Also, there are a few typos in the chapter on reactive power that could be very misleading to students who are already struggling.

The book concentrates mainly on transmission but the first four chapters are useful for distribution dispatchers as well. They provide a good foundation for teaching system overview, AC fundamentals and reactive power. The chapters on protective relaying, while still giving a basic overview of the various schemes, are a bit dated because they don't cover some of the latest microprocessor-based relays that have been replacing the electro-mechanical ones over the past several years.

This is not the be-all and end-all for training system operators, but when combined with on-the-job training and other supplementary material it can help establish a solid training program.

Excellent developmental tool for Power System Operators
Power System Operation provides a well structured knowledge base and reference for the new and seasoned power system operator. It will serve as the foundational and theoretical basis for many of the experienced based knowledge that is passed from operator to operator. I would recommend that all power system operators be equipped with this book as must read material.
