A Cacophony of Usefulness
This was my first herb-medicine book, and I found it an excellent jumping-off point. Includes immediately useful introductions to herbal medicine, principals of healing, western and Chinese herbs and techniques, as well as specific preparations, recipes and some really helpful tips. Highly recommended for anybody.

Excellent coverage of holistic herbology.
This excellent book will help people seeking detailed information on the properties and uses of herbs, as well as those who want to know what holistic healing means. Importantly, the author's holistic approach to herbalism avoids the common method of recommending specific herbs for whatever symptoms present, called the "this for that" approach in the book's foreword. Instead, she emphasizes that the underlying cause of the symptom must be treated. Every element in a person's condition should be evaluated and all aspects of an herb's energy considered, before the herb is matched to the condition.

She writes: "Traditional cultures which use herbs according to a theoretical system use herbs energetically. Chinese, East Indian Ayurvedic, Tibetan, Middle Eastern Unani and Native American Cherokee medicines are all founded on an energetic basis, although each system is different. To use herbs energetically, we look beyond the symptoms of the disease to alleviating the underlying imbalance which caused the disease. This cause varies according to each individual because all aspects of a person are taken into account, not just the disease itself."

In fact, Tierra looks beyond herbology in her holistic approach and notes what she considers five essential factors in the healing process: breathing exercises and contemplation; physical exercise; proper diet; appropriate lifestyle habits; and natural medicines. The book is divided into three parts, showing how to use herbs for health and healing, how to regain and maintain health, and how to obtain and make your own healing tools. She's also included a valuable bibliography, herbal resource guide, and a short piece written by her husband Michael Tierra on how her classification of yin and yang energy differs from that of macrobiotics as espoused by George Ohsawa.

Tierra's coverage of the energy of herbs and the energy of illness is one of the best I've found, and her success in explaining these concepts may lie in her straightforward, practical presentation which includes helpful charts and illustrations. Her theories are based on Traditional Chinese Medicine, simplified to a point but still comprehensive.

Excellent for beginners and for Chinese Herbal practitioners
An extremely useful book which allows beginners to appreciate the finer points of Chinese herbs and gives the experienced Chinese herbalist an opportunity to review his or her understanding about Chinese herbs. Very well written and well organized, I recommend this book to everyone.

A good waiting spot
I started in the middle of the series last summer-- enjoyed "Irish Mist," so much I scoured my hometown and the internet until I found and have now read the whole Nualla series (in order). "Irish Stew" is not the best of the series, but if you were hooked from the previous books, you'll enjoy this one too. The only thing is that this one lives a little too much in the past and you don't get a lot of Nualla and Dermot, but the way he leaves you hanging as you go from the present story of Dermot and Nualla to Ned from long ago Chicago (same Ned as Irish Eyes) you find yourself hooked. I just hope the good father has one more Nualla story up his sleeve to quench my addiction.

Good Read
I have read all the books in this series. The conversations between Dermot and his mental alter ego were very confusing at times. I would re-read paragraphs to make sure I was getting the speaker right. I enjoyed the history lesson though!

Not ashamed to admit I love this series...
If you are going to read any of the "Nuala and Dermot" books, start with the first one and do them in order. If you hate the first, it's OK to quit. I like them all, but then I like nearly 90 percent of Fr. Greeley's output, and over the decades I've probably read about 90 percent of his total. I am only an eighth Irish, have only been to the airport in Chicago, and no longer consider myself Catholic, but I still am hooked. This group of novels are just plain fun. There are two mysteries, one from the past, one in the present, to solve, plus a progressive love story and cameo appearances by many of Greeley's stock characters in the Ryan-Kane-Murphy-Casey extended families. To enjoy these books, one has to suspend a lot of disbelief...Nuala Anne McGrail Coyne, our sexy, feisty, low self-esteem Irish peasant heroine, achieves a world class singing career rather too easily, for instance, and her husband, Dermot, may be too rich too easily, and too multi-talented to be credible. However, both are so darn likeable you won't give a flip about the unreality. If you like any of Greeley, I cannot imagine not liking this series. Each book has sex, humor, suspense, a bit of danger, a lot of history, an explication of how modern-day yuppies can still be practicing and sincere Catholics. the "Irish" series may not earn respect from the academic literati, but the plots are not dull, and the feeling when you are done is that all can be (mostly) right with the world if you do your part to play by the rules. For a celibate priest, Andy Greeley sure knows how to write about the healthy parts of lust and love and desire and the mysterious compulsion that brings men and women together despite their being different creatures altogether.

Don't waste your money
This book doesn't have many interesting facts, just the kind of stuff that makes ya say "well, duh" Also, there are some typos like Scott's name isn't Scott James Time Robinson, It's Scott James TIM Robinson. There's just little things like that. The only reason I gave it 2 stars is because there are some GREAT pics.

Not Good but Not Bad
This book contains lots of info about Five but has nothing new...just the 'no duh' stuff that everybody either knows or can guess. Since it's not official, it doesn't have any exclusive info that Five fans would want in a book. Even the pictures aren't very nice and again, aren't exclusve. Just plain pictures you would find in any other magazine. Stick with the officials.

Great book!
This is a really good book! It's very informative! I love the pictures of Ritchie, they're so gorgeous! They chose the right pictures.
The book includes pages of pictures, a profile on each member and some behind the scenes stuff. It's an unofficial but fantastic book.
The best book for 5ive is the official book, but this is brilliant! I love it!

Good, but!
This is exactly what we expected it to be: A very helpful listing of symptoms/signs your pet could be displaying and what to make of it.
One major drawback of the volume is a political one: We are happy to live in a country decidedly more civilized where the surgical removal of a cat's claws is simply illegal. We could have well done without any advice regarding this disgusting notion: I mean if you are fonder of your furniture than of a living (pet or no) animal, then please get more furniture, not more pets...

ONE OF THE BEST IF YOU NEED HELP FOR YOUR CAT BUDDY
.
I read everything I could find at the local library concerning diagnosis of symptoms displayed by my cat. The technical books in the library were useless because of the plethora of technical terms that the average layman like me hasn't a clue on the meaning of. Also, the organization, or should I say lack of organization, of the other books made them tedious to follow. Many references and cross-references ad infinitum. I had to tease out answers to simple questions and, even then, didn't fully understand the points they were trying to make. I've had cats for most of my life and thought I was an expert, but I was stumped and worried about my little friend's symptomatic behavior. I needed help, and fast.

Five minutes with the guide to symptoms by Garvey, et al, answered my immediate question and led to a quick solution. The book is filled with well rendered drawings that illustrate and complement the text. The people who put this book together obviously know cats intimately and understand cat behavior. The writing is easy to understand and to the point. It also explains the "whys" behind the facts. The table at the back is both comprehensive and easy for the average reader to understand. This is a book to be USED, not just read.

No book is perfect but this one comes close and gave me what I needed. ....I'm totally satisfied with it.

Excellent reference. Contains much valuable information.
The unique chart form in the second half of this book provides cat ownerns with an invaluable quick reference when a cat is ailing. My cats, like most, often do not complain when they are not feeling well, and I must figure out what's wrong. This is an excellent, helpful guide.

Lopez,Jennifer
This a good book. It has a lot of information. I would recomend this book to almost anyone. Oh you thought I was going to give you a bunch of details so you wouldn't have to buy the book, well you thought wrong.

Another thing for your J.Lo collection!
This book is great and definitely worth the price. It has a lot of information on J.Lo as well as giving fascinating facts about her. It is also something for all Jennifer Lopez fans. If you buy this, another thing you might be interested in is "feelin' so good" not the song but the DVD/video. It has all that you would ever want to know about J.LO with a great interview as well as showing you some of her songs (1999-2000) and showing you how she made the video and who was behind it's production. But if you already have it this is something else you should buy. It's great.

Wonderful places to stay.
I used a copy of this book to find accomodation during a 3 week holiday in Italy. I can recommend it if you are looking for something a little off the beaten track at a reasonable price. Most areas have many entries and in September it was easy to find a place to stay even in Rome and Florence. Take a mobile phone and you can arrange your stay while traveling on the Italian railways.

spatial thinking in flattened space
i found this text to be a significant resource in thinking about practice and design, and their blending of intentions. using furniture as a medium for thinking about architectural space, the author identifies methodologies of investigation that are forward but readable. this book is not about furniture, it is about spatial movement, its architecture in the broad sense of spatiality. its a good resource for anyone interested in layering, trans-anything, and folding concepts.
