The Power of Attitude is one of my favorite quick reads (short book) with very useful and inspirational quotes from some of the world's greatest businessmen and politicians. This book is one of my favorites for inspiration but Power of Leadership by Maxwell is another must read if you are looking for motivation / advice on leadership. If you are looking for a full-blown book try his book, 21 Indispensable Qualities of a Leader or 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership.
They key to getting any long-term value out of Maxwell's books is to highlight the quotes you love and integrate them into your daily life. Practice what you read essentially.
I love these small books full of great little inspiration and motivational quotes. I believe John Maxwell's book, The Power of Leadership, is an even better read for those looking to better themselves and get a peak at how the world's greatest businessmen and politicians think.
The key to ranking this book depends on what you are seeking to get out of the book.
They key to getting long-term value out of a book like this is to highlight the quotes you love and integrate them into your daily life. Practice what you read essentially. Hope this helps everyone.
The authors of the sayings include John C. Maxwell (the author), the Bible, outstanding people, philosophers, business people, and politicians.
In some cases, it wasn't clear who was the source of the quote. That was the only drawback I saw here. Unlike some books of quotations, this one had a consistent theme that was intelligently developed through the many quotes in the book. I especially liked the lead-in on page 4 which is a list of 10 commandments of human relations (best practices for copyright law suggest that lists like this not be quoted in reviews or I would give it to you in total).
Here are some of my favorites from other parts of the book:
"Ninety percent of the friction of daily life is caused by the wrong tone of voice." -- John C. Maxwell
"Ninety percent of the art of living consists of getting along with people you cannot stand." -- Samuel Goldwyn
"People aren't sales resistant -- they are salespeople resistant." -- Mark Hebenstreit
"I will pay more for the ability to deal with people than for any other ability under the sun." -- John D. Rockefeller
"We cannot forgive another for not being ourselves." -- Ralph Waldo Emerson
"The only way to have a friend is to be one." -- Emerson
These are good reminders of things we all know, and forget to do. So overcome your procrastination stall by reading and applying a few of these bits of good advice daily! You'll certainly like yourself better if you do. It's not a bad idea to have a valid reason for thinking better of yourself.

Just about every example he gives shows that the rest of his rules are just so much hogwash or purely self-referential. There is no guideline in here for growth. There are no tools here to become a better leader. There's just a bunch of lame examples that you can use as excuses to convince yourself that you're really a leader.
If ever there was a book that deserves no stars at all, this is the book. If you want to understand why someone in your organization has acheived some high position despite an apparent lack of brain function, this is the book that will explain it to you. But if you want to grow as a leader and as a person, look elsewhere.

I would love to see Maxwell develop his ideas and generate some new, more "mind blowing" and revelatory messages to set him apart from other self-help authors.
On the up side, it's a nicely priced book that serves a purpose.
The whole book is a quick read, almost outline in format and delivery, full of Maxwell's trademark memorable and applicational illustrations. Hard core cynics and others with superiority issues may sniff at it, but real people will benefit from it. Superior cynics are never leaders anyway.
Buy a few, and give them out. See who comments on something they got from reading it, and begin hanging out with them - if they aren't leaders yet, they're on their way!
I highly recommend this as both a book for you to read and reread, and as a book to share with others through gifts. Attitude 101 is a thoughtful high school or college graduation gift, for example, that will provide benefits for decades.
The book addresses several key dimensions of personal attitude: Its impact; its formation; and how your future is affected by your attitude. Examples come poignantly from the Bible, sports, inventors, celebrities, writers, politics and Dr. Maxwell's own life. Many of the stories added to my knowledge. Did you know that David had five stones with him to face Goliath not because David feared he would miss . . . but because Goliath had four giant sons whom David might also have had to face?
Whatever is missing from your attitude . . . this little book can help you find it and apply a remedy. On different days, you will have varying needs to improve your attitude. Rereading the right sections in this book will help you develop a better attitude and keep it focused on moving you forward just when and where you should be going.
As Dr. Maxwell says, success is:
"Knowing your purpose in life,
Growing to reach your maximum potential,
Sowing seeds that benefit others."
The book combines all of the elements you've probably come to like about his books on leadership, teamwork, thinking and purposeful living. Seeing it all together in a brief form makes the message clearer somehow. I liked that.
His epigrams are wonderful. Here's another of my favorites for helping others form good attitudes:
"Value people.
Praise efforts.
Reward performance."
Particularly meaningful to me were the reminders that temporary setbacks (what some see as "failures") are good ways to learn how to be more effective. If we can combine lots of attempts with an ability to emotionally forget how they made us feel when the attempts didn't work, we can accomplish a great deal.
The book ends with how leaders can grow their potential. The Reverend Martin Luther King, Jr. is the example. Leaders become greater by giving up more in serving others.
May God bless you, Dr. Maxwell, and all those who read and apply this wonderful book!

I've already seen it under the arms of all the up and coming career men in the ministry, most of whom have no idea, or interest in actually expositorily preaching that book they carry with Maxwell's name emblazoned on it.
Maxwell is an egomaniac of the first order, and a symptom of chronic shallowness in the twenty-first century church. Now he's using the Scriptures to sell his books and his career.
There was a time when the Scriptures were held in high regard. God help us.
If you are looking for a good "regular" or "general" study Bible, I would not recommend this one to you. All the charts, lists, notes, inserts, bullet points, commentaries, chapter and section lead ins, etc. are all leader focused/oriented.
