A refreshing book that will never become boring
My 4 year old son adores the 'Matthew' series. These books are an absolute must for any kid, especially young boys.

All of these books feature a boy who goes to sleep only to be 'awakened' by a midnight visitor of whatever kind the book is about. They go off and have great adventures together, then every morning at about six he goes into his mother's room and wakes her up to tell her about it.

Great sense of humour, and beautifully illustrated. Anyone who likes Munsch will love these books too.

Wonderful Books
When I was in Canada a few years ago I bought a copy of "Murmel, Murmel, Murmel"--in fact I bought three copies! I had never heard of Munsch before, but this little book ("Murmel . . .") caught my eye because it is about a little girl who finds a baby who can only say "Murmel . . .", and the little girl tries to find someone to care for the baby. At the time, my granddaughter was in foster care and did not understand why she was not with her mother, but when we read this book (over and over again!), she finally had some understanding that maybe a mother can't care for her children, but someone else would love to! Great author, such understanding and compassion! Good illustrations. I'm glad they are finally available in the US.

Munschworks Rocks!
Robert Munsch is my classes favorite author! He is a really funny man.He tackles really strange topics(farts, peeing, etc) and has my class in hysterics. He is a wonderful author for teaching classes to read. He has a lot of predictable text in his books so the classes can read along. One of the nicest things about Robert Munsch is the fact he answers the children's letters. I have written to him at least four times with four different classes and he has written back each time. The reason I like the Munschwork books some much is the print is bigger and the pictures are bigger so the kids can see the both a little bit easier. He has written at least twenty books so I can have a Munsch break every day after lunch. If you want your class to enjoy story time buy Robert Munsch!

Munschworks is great
Robert Munch has done all teachers and parents a favor bycompiling some of his more popular stories into onecollection. Children at my school love it when I take out this book. Munschworks is a great tool to involve young children in emergent literacy. The stories "Thomas' Snowsuit", "David's Father" and "I have to go" really get the children involved in the telling of the story which instills begining reading skills in the young reader. The children have these stories read to them so much that they end up memorizing the story and they can tell it to you. The children also like the silliness of "The paper bag princess" and like to make up different endings for this story. The idea to put five Munsch stories together is a wonderful one. Michael Martchenko and Munsch make a great tag team in the world of children's literature. The children in my classroom can't agree more. END

FABULOUS AND INTERESTING
I happen to found this book at our local library and check it out thinking that my 6 year old would enjoy it. Much to my surprise it was my 2 year old that was so engrossed by the baby in the hole and Robin desperately looking for her a home. The tone of voice that you can use to read this book will captivate your children too. ENJOY! WE DID.

A hilarious story by Munsch
Benjamin picks his baby sister up out of her crib, puts her in his knapsack and takes her to school for show and tell. She then wakes up and begins to cry. It is hilarious to watch the flustered adults in charge all try to get her to be quiet. I read this to my kindergarten class, and we all laughed so hard we cried. (If you like Stephanie's Ponytail, you'll like this one, too!) Munsch's dialog is clever, and there is just the right amount of repetition in the story for kids to chime in as it is read aloud. This is a fun book for a child with a new baby at home, too.

Robert Munsch scores again!
Robert Munsch and Michael Martchenko have teamed up for another OUTSTANDING children's book. Kids of all ages will enjoy the tree climbing adventures of Anna. Although Anna is told by her parents not to climb, she continues to climb anything in and outside the house. It was like being reunited with an old friend when I read Munsch's favorite kid response come out of Anna's mouth,'No, no, no, no, no!' The details found in the illustrations always amaze me as I recognize pieces from past Munsch/Martchenko creations. Anna makes every parent smile as she works to help her wounded parents.

Heroine vs. Anti-Hero
I've been reading Munsch since childhood - but re-reading this book for a Children's Lit course was a delight. This book sets a fine example for children (and adults) about the value of role reversal and what it can teach us about the divide between the sexes. In theory, this is too complex for children to understand, yet it does send the message to children that girls can be heroes, too. And unlike the siliconed, pancaked Bond girls, the Paper Bag Princess comes through in fine style.

Mr. Munsch's wonderful book
This was the first Munsch book that I bought and I quickly went out and bought a whole load more. He's an excellent writer with a wonderful range of stories and a beautifully simple and fluid style of writing that is both accessible to children and able to roll off the tongue of most adults.

As you'll see from the other reviews here, this tale is about a young girl who, filled with nothing but courage, charity and a fair bit of brains, goes off to rescue a young prince from a ferocious dragon. After using all of her cunning to defeat the dragon she discovers that the prince is a bit of a monster himself, and so she decides not to marry him after all.

Although I agree that the story has a wealth of small lessons for children to learn about boys and girls and expectations and disappointments, I think that one of its strongest points is that the book serves as a wonderful introduction to the fact that not all stories end the way we expect them to (it's still a happy ending, just a different one) and that sometimes a twist can be more satisfying anyway.

Highly recommended for children from 3 to 103.

Kids Love Munsch Stories!
As an Education major and child care employee, I have scoured book stores and book fairs to find quality literature for use in the classroom. I often utilize the preschool children that I work with as "guinea pigs" and rate thier reactions to such literature. They loved the Paper Bag Princess! Although I brought the entire Munschworks collection to school last week, I was asked (and often ordered) to read only thie particular story each day, and often several times in a day.
The children were filled with laughter at various points in the story, especially when I would flip to the page in which Elizabeth tricks the dragon into using up all of his firey dragon breath-the children would instantly yell out, "He doesn't have enough dragon breath to cook a meatball...ha ha ha".
By the middle of the week, the children were reciting this story to thier friends and parents, and even acting it out (they enjoyed calling each other bums at the end). Munsch stories are truly a delight for any classroom or individual child's library!

Sneaky Stephanie
Stephanie's Ponytail is hysterically funny. It is a book that keeps readers on their feet. Stephanie somehow gets everyone to copy her strange hairstyles from day to day until one day this back fires. She tells everyone at her school that she is tired of everyone copying her her ponytail styles. Sneaky Stephanie then tells everyone she is going to shave her head. Sure enough, the next day everyone shows up with a bald head. This story will capture the attention of anyone. I personally enjoyed Robert Munsch work.

Stephanie's Ponytail
Stephanie's ponytail is loved by children of all ages. The lesson to be taught in the book is Be a leader and not a follower. The book is very easy for any child to pick out the moral. The pictures are humerous and children can interact while you read. Great for learning sequencing.

Stephanie's Ponytail: Copy Cats
A fun story that demonstrates the power of independence and a young girl's abilty to stand up for herself and what she believes in.It's a great book to shows kids that self assurance can be an asset and that conformity and being a copy cat my leave you bald and ugly.
