Quiet, remarkable stories
Charles Wyatt's book is something to be read aloud. These superbly crafted stories are both absorbing and lyrical; there's nothing flimsy or gimmicky about them. "Ghosts" and "Listening to Mozart" were especially well done--deep but not without comical flavor. Wyatt's character never takes himself too seriously--he intuitively seems to understand that the biggest events in life happen regardless of his plans. I sincerely hope that Wyatt writes another book.

A classic for every home library
My two favorites in this collection are The Thin Man and The Maltese Falcon. I love these hard-boiled detective novels doubly for their sheer entertainment and their place in history. If you want a fascinating read to go allong with this collection, get The Perfect Murder: A Study In Detection by David Lehman. It will clue you into these novels and life. These classic American Novels by Hammett are about to explode in historical research as these novels create an important link in America from WWII to our morality.

The Man Who Could Call Down Owls
This a fabulous book by one of my favorite authors. It's a story of good vs. evil in which kindness and goodness prevail. There are several types of owls and owl characteristics mentioned, making it a perfect engagement piece for an owl pellet dissection activity. The illustrations are dark and shadowy and fit the story perfectly. It is a sad, but beautiful story and very well worth reading!

Originally written for limited distribution among initiates, this rare reprint contains secret exercises for developing the inner word, an infallible source of guidance. Especially recommended for students of Rosicrucianism, Masonry and/or advanced Yogic techniques.

This book was awesome. I read it in one sitting. It was so insightful in identifying the components of a "True Man". It gave great specific instructions on how to be a man of God.

An honest and beautiful picture journal of the Mentawai
When in Sumatra - Indonesia I read this book, which convinced me to go to Pulau Siberut to see and experience the Mentawai.

Before leaving I was sceptical how much the book really reflected the way that the Mentawai actually live but when I got to Siberut, and experienced these people for myself I realised how true to life the book really is. It doesn't have anything in it that is not accurate, perhaps slightly glossier than reality at times, but not inaccurate.

I took the opportunity to stay with Aman Lao Lao, the Shaman featured in the book who - like all the Mentawai - is a warm, hospitable and often funny guy. They don't wear their dress for show or for photos, but genuinely do dress in the manner shown in the book, although they might have more modern clothes if they need to visit the port or come into contact with officialdom. The Mentawai people are extremely interesting and good natured and I would urge anyone who has any interest in tribal cultures to look at this book as there are very few places where one can see such an unspoiled civilisation, and this book shows with stunning photography how these wonderful people continue to live

Practical for modern readers and amazing for everyone
Ten Thousand Years From Eden: The Long Search For A Personal Nutrition From Our Forest Origins To The Supermarkets Of Today by nutrition expert and retired academician Charles Heizer Wharton is a detailed, college-level study of human nutrition from the perspective of an ecologist. From the origin of human beings with a hunter/gatherer system of food gathering and consumption practices, to achieving the best nutrition from today's complex, market-heavy and artificially flavored world of foods and beverages, Ten Thousand Years From Eden is as practical for modern readers as it is amazing for everyone with an interest in the history of the human diet. Ten Thousand Years From Eden is a unique and highly recommended addition to students of nutrition, human evolution, human ecology, and contemporary food habits in a post-industrial age.

Funny and full of nonsense
I'll never forget receiving this nonsense book written by Prince Charles. I read it and read it and had it read to me over and over again. It still has a spot on my formal bookcase in the living room.
