Interesting historical perspective in this fascinating work
As 1916 draws towards an end, the war between Great Britain and Germany appears to have no end in sight. Prime Minister Lloyd George has been in office for a week when his friend Sir Arthur Conan Doyle persuades him to host a séance in order to contact his daughter, dead for nine years. Because he feels guilt, Lloyd agrees. Just as the medium goes into a trance, the lights go out. When they come back on, the Prime Minister's youngest teenage daughter is missing.

Doyle visits his friend John Darnell, a psychic debunker, to attend the next night's séance. As happened previously, the lights go out just as the medium enters a trance. When the lights come back on, someone stabbed to death an aid to the prime minister. Someone has used the cloak of the séances to kidnap a teenager and kill a person who unluckily chanced upon information. Lloyd receives a ransom note threatening the life of his child if he fails to agree to Germany's peace offering. John Darnell races the clock to save a life of an innocent caught up in world politics.

Sam McCarver writes a fascinating work that gives the audience a strong sense of the times. The mood of the British people before America's entry into World War I is fascinating yet understandable. Nonetheless, the magic to THE CASE OF THE 2ND SÉANCE lies in the hero whose actions insure readers get more than their money's worth.

The Church and the Last Things: Great Doctrines of the Bible (Great Doctrines of the Bible (Crossway Books), V. 3.)

Careful interpretation of difficult issues
This is the last of a three volume series on great doctrines, which deals with doctrines of the church and eschatology, there are 23 chapters each of which covers a lecture.

On doctrines of the church he deals with the following topics: the Church, the marks and government of the church, the sacraments, baptism, and the Lord's Supper.

On eschatology he deals with a wide range of subjects:

Death and immortality
Conditional immortality or a second chance?
The Second Coming - a general introduction.
The time of his coming - the signs.
God's plan for the Jews
The antichrist
The interpretation of Dan 9:24-27
Daniel 9 concluded and the secret rapture
The book of Revelation - introduction
The preterist and futurist views
The spiritual historicist view
The suffering and safety of the redeemed
The trumpets
The final judgement
The premillennial view
Post-millennialism and the spiritual view
The resurrection of the body
The final destiny.

This book would suite someone who is already familiar with the doctors writing or someone who has a special interest in eschatology, especially in Revelation, which has eight of the twenty-three chapters devoted to it. In many of the chapters on eschatology he is dealing with sensitive and controversial issues and I found it interesting and intriguing to read the doctor's views on these matters when he wrote in the 1950's. I would suggest that his careful interpretation of these difficult scriptures is well worth reading in our more sensationalist times today.

Stirring Account of Evangelical Leader
First volume of Murray's substantial biography on Martyn Lloyd-Jones stands head and shoulders above every biography I have ever read. What a great man of God was Lloyd-Jones, and what a great God he served. From the account of his childhood in Wales, to his prominence in Harley Street as a physician, to his conversion and subsequent ministry in Aberavon, this is a wonderful book. Not a story full of dramatic happenings, but rather the quiet obedience of a man who shunned publicity, but was honored by the God of heaven, and saw the mysterious and sovereign movings of the Spirit upon his hearers. Well documented with numerous sermon excerpts, newspaper quotes, and personal interview with the "Doctor" and his wife themselves, this was a fantastic book with which to end 1997. I shall treasure this volume always, and make a point to read it more than once more in the years to come. I thank God for this book and the inspiration it has been to me.

"Must" reading for all Frank Lloyd Wright fans and students.
This presentation was the first to focus on Wright's decorative art, rather than his usual architectural achievements, and was originally published as a catalog to accompany a major exhibition. Over 200 drawings and photos provide a fine survey of Wright's decorative designs, while chapters discuss his work in various mediums. Recommended for collection which already have books on Wright's architectural works, but who seek a well-rounded portrait of the artist.

Excellent
This tremendous book, brought to you by the nation's favourite pizzeria, shows a genius at work. What is evident in the work of Lloyd Wright, and what can certainly be seen in this magnificent retrospective, is his continual striving to incorporate innovation with consistency in order to create an architectural grammar which was, though eclectic, uniquely American. Take, for example the Larkin Building, in which the architect showed his willingness to experiment with new materials and technologies. Just as Lloyd Wright innovated with air-conditioning, plate-glass windows, integral desk furniture and suspended toilet bowls, so the Domino's Master Piemaker brings an almost symphonic unity to his work with multifaceted swathes of mushroom, cantilevered tranches of melting cheese and geometric designs hewn from pork. As David Hanks says in his helpful introduction "The romantic spirit that Wright brought to all his buildings is that same unabashed virtuosity that is brought boxed and piping hot to your door (thanks to their revolutionary new HeatWave packaging system) when you phone for a delicious Domino's pizza from any one of their 6200 franchised stores worldwide".

The Life of Joy and Peace - An exposition of Philippians
This is one of the top three Christian books I have ever read. Dr. Martin Lloyd-Jones is an incredibly gifted expositor who helps you understand God's word, provides great theological insight, and gives you practical applications. You will be greatly encouraged in your walk with God by Paul's letter to the Philippians.

Time for a Timeless Message
This is one of those books once you start, you can't put it down. This is a problem of all the author's books. This book consists of nine messages the late D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones preached at Westminster Chapel thirty-six years ago. Israel was warned by prophet Isaiah of the coming wrath from God if they did not heed Isaiah's message. From reading this book, it is not difficult to imagine the effect these sermons had on the author's congregation. This is because the reader cannot help but think Dr. Jones is directing the sermons to him or her. Dr. Jones shows his congregation that the names and places have changed, but the message is the same because the sins are the same. He points out the solutions are also still the same. As Isaiah warned Israel of God's coming wrath, so Jones warned England and the United States thirty-six years ago. This book is still valid today. The author shows the places and names have changed again, but the sins and the solutions have not. The author points out what is right and wrong is subjective to each person in today's world. And God still holds each person accountable. Dr. Jones does not let anyone off the hook because he knows God will not let anyone off the hook. Dr. Jones' call to hear and obey God then as today, is the only thing standing between the us and the wrath of God. The wrath of God will still come, it is just a question of when, and on whom. This subject is avoided today, but those who seek the truth will get it from the author. This book is a must read.
