One doesn't have to read a major book on theology...
... This book is a simple book, it doesn't have a lot of highly technical words that you have to have a BA or maybe a PhD to understand. No the average Joe or Jane can pick up this book, read it, and realize how much God loves us, how much God strives to open our eyes to the salvation and redemption he offers us by sending His Son to the Cross to die for us.

I would highly suggest that you the reader of this review get this book. It is not expensive, BUT it will give you so much help and ease whatever pains that you have inside. I know it has helped me with much of mine.

A Wonderful Overview
This book offers a wonderful overview for those new to the United Methodist denomination, or for veteran Methodists who want a better understanding of what beliefs distinguish the church, or simply to grow in their faith. Well-written, detailed but not ponderous, and with questions after each chapter, it would make an excellent text for focus in small group discussion. Enjoy, and keep the faith!

Meaty Encouragement by a Mature Saint
Over the last 10 years, I have thoroughly enjoyed Matthew Henry's commentary on the Bible, which I own. This book is an excellent resource for those who would be encouraged further in their walk with Christ. It's language is down-to-earth and speaks to practical issues of our day.

The book is organized into 13 chapters, which I found easy to read one per day as a devotional before my daily prayer time. I was impressed with the depth of gratitude toward God and the knowledge of Scripture that permeated the book. With chapters such as "Morning Prayers", "Spending the Day with God", "Opportunities for Waiting on God" and "Closing the Day with God" -- the author makes a wonderful case for living a life that is truly in the presence of God every moment. He intersperses the very readable text with stories and thoughtful insights.

I would highly recommend this book by a classic author to those who need a fresh perspective on seeking after and knowing God.

What is Personal Revival Like?
Henry's understanding of revival is deepened by his personal experience of revival in western Canada in the 1970's. This is a thoroughly biblical treatment of the ways of God in revival.

Great
I thought that this book was worth buying, I got a lot out of it. This book is about having a better relationship with God by learning to hear his voice, finding and following His will. It's a good book for new Christians and mature ones. They also ask the question if God talks to people today and if God has a will for every Christian's life, they present both arguments and give you their take, which I agree and that is that yes God has a will for your life. It talks about how to tell if something is from God or the devil. It also covers how God used to talk to people in the past as well as the present. I found the book easy to read, informative and helpful. I really think that the authors covered a lot of stuff and that they did their research.

I am confident this book will make a difference in our home.
One of my pet peeves is when a parenting book is general, and I'm left asking "But what should I do in *this* situation?" Dr. Brandt gives lots of examples of how his principles work in specific situations, with stories from various families he's worked with. It was refreshing to get such clear advice from someone who was telling me that first and foremost I need to love my children and treat them with the respect they deserve just because God made them. Thank you, Dr. Brandt! I gave away my "Growing Kids" book years ago. I read the Sears sitting on my shelf, but Brandt's book is one that I have gone out and raved about to all my family and friends! It's off my shelf and on my table right next to Shepherding a Child's Heart!

Spectacular listening!
Blackstone Audio has given me an assortment of Audio Books to review and each time I have thoroughly enjoyed what I heard. This audio book is certainly no exception to that rule. Living Biographies is a great look into 20 of the most famous rulers in history.

From the rise and fall of Solomon to Julius and Augustine Caesar and their reigns of power and conquest, you'll feel as if you are right there with them. Listen as Kubla Kahn takes the vicious Kahn tradition and becomes a more gentle ruler.

Hear how Henry VIII rids himself of his wives as he tires of them; hear how Queen Elizabeth rose to power and Catherine the Great takes control of the Russian empire. Listen as Montezuma and the Aztecs are invaded by Cortez.

Stories of Ivan the Terrible's reign of bloody terror to Stalin revolution to Mussolini's total dominance of Italy to Hitler's rule of mass genocide, you'll simply be amazed. The 6 1½ hour cassettes are easy to play while driving, making your trips go a little faster. Well done!

one of the few essential philosophy books
A very rare book that brings Heart and Soul as well as Intellect to the reviewing table. In consequence Neitzsche and Schopenhauer are completely debunked, whilst Plato, Socrates, Hume, Kant et al are rightly given their due positions on the high table. Easy to read, easy to digest, fascinating and luminous. This book could save you hundreds of hours you might otherwise have spent unnecessarily wading through dense philosophical tomes. There is nothing else quite like it, when it comes to understanding the western philosophers in an objective context. It is both truly astonishing and a sad reflection of the times that no one else has reviewed this book before.

Discerning book for the discerning spiritual reader
This book is excellent because it draws a distinction between the gifts of the Holy Spirit and the fruit of the Spirit and most importantly the relationship between the two.

Babsie Bleasdell, the charismatic and deeply spiritual author, points out that it is the practice and use of the gifts result in the fruit of the Spirit.

I have not seen this distinction made anywhere else and it is an extremely valuable teaching for anyone in the charismatic movement. It helps us to realise that God's gifts are given for us to use in the service of others and only in doing so do we become holy. Being blessed with the gifts alone doesn't make us holy.

I would recommend this book for anyone who is interested in how to cooperate with the Holy Spirit and particularly for those in leading charismatic groups.
