Florence and Marita help us understand communication from several angles, but, most important, coach us on how to make a difference with the words we write and speak. In keeping with their niche as personality analysts, they help us see we can change certain personality habits to better communicate with others. Recognizing that written communication is equally important, they include two chapters on writing notes. You'll want to bookmark the suggestions on what to write in difficult times, such as failure or bereavement. This book introduced me to the personalities. The exercises at the ends of the chapters helped me discover my personality type and pinpointed a mask that I had been wearing. It also gave me a new appreciation for my parents and grandparents and the influence they have been on my life. It has really expanded my understanding of others. I've found myself getting along better with people, even those "irregular" people in my life.

I can not say enough wonderful things about this book. Littauer's Personality Plus, the predecessor to this book was informative, but this one really dives into the personalities in depth as they relate to our tempermental make-up and family history. She also adds a deeper spiritual element to her work, which challenges the reader even further. I can't imagine a better tool for finding out why you are the way you are, who and what influenced your personality, and why we all should accept ourselves and each other the way God created us.

Your Personality Tree is the perfect compliment to Florence's mega hit, Personality Plus. Where as Personality Plus leads the reader through the steps of identifying and understanding his or her temperament, Your Personality Tree explores the deeper root causes of behavoir. This book is EXCELLENT. Every parent needs to read it.
I have 5 children and this book has helped me so much to see
what makes my children different, and has enabled me to accept
them just as they are. Just one example-my third son has always seemed to be lazy. He is just not motivated to work. I used to worry that I was raising a lazy adult but this book showed me that he is a phlegmatic, and phlegmatics tend to be that way! They find the shortest way to do things and are unmotivated to get their work done. I now understand my little guy and why he is like he is-I can accept him as living according to his temperament. I could give several other examples.
This book is practical in that it lists the strengths and weaknesses of each temperament and gives ideas for parents on how to raise their children according to how they are. I loved that it pairs up the different combinations of parents and children.
I could go on and on but suffice it to say that I read the book in just a couple of days and learned so much that it's changed the way I relate to my children. I even learned much about me and also about my husband.
It's a fascinating, practical, life-changing book. I can't recommend it highly enough.
Now I'm off to read her book for adults, "Personality Plus". :)

It is insightful to find out we can tell personalities in babies. And knowing your own personality and how to interact with other personalities makes it so much easier to raise great grandchildren. Wish I knew this when my own children were growing up. It makes a big difference in the level of self confidence and self esteem as one raises children, especially during the formative years of birth to age 3.

Florence Littauer has written a book that has the potential to transform relationships. Her knowledge of personality types and how to deal with them will help you better understand not only your children but yourself as well.

The author gives clear descriptions of the four personality types. Rather than stopping with a description, she goes on to share parenting ideas for each type of child. This is very helpful, but she goes further still! I found the most helpful sections to be those where the author spelled out how a parent with one personality type can get along with and bring out the best in a child of another personality.

If you have children you just can't figure out, this book will help you.

I found it very easy to understand and apply the concepts. In fact, I have been giving presentations to small groups based on my research and this book is the basis for my presentation.

Even if you do not completely belive in the theory of personality typing, this book will help you understand why people behave in predictable way.

This book defines personality types and gives great insight into how and why they respond the way they do. It also helps an individual to define their own personality type. By giving real life examples, it is easy to see how to apply what the reader is learning. This book is definitely an eye opener. It will help to distinguish the office personalities, give insight into how to deal with them, and how to interact with them. It has a question area for determing your own personality and a glossary for defining the descriptions used in explaining the different personalities. The style is very easy to read and understand. A must read for everyone in the work place.

I read this book about 5 years ago and I still find myself going back to it when I feel a little down or discouraged. This book will make you realize that there is a whole different "level" out there or maybe one of our "senses" that most of us don't know we have--kind of like new planets that astronomers "find" but have actually always been there. That's a little deep but, believe me, this book makes a person understand that "we" all hold ourselves back because that special ingredient that we are all looking for is already possessed by us all........we only have to just dare ourselves to reach inside of ourselve and use it and reach for our goals....mental goals, spiritual goals, health goals, physical goals and oh yes, the material goals will follow. This book helps the individeal deal and relate to personalities they deem to be difficult. Every individual has difficult people in their lives and Littauer gives a good step-by-step how-to book on these types of relationships. The other book with a somewhat different direction that needs to be read in tandem with this book is Jeff VanVonderen's WHEN GOD'S PEOPLE LET YOU DOWN!!!

A mentor gave me this book in 1986. I read it as a new college freshman. I read it again as I prepared for my upcoming wedding in 1989. Now I have some friends--young women about to go to college themselves--who I think can bennefit from this practical book. Author Florence Littauer has inspired me over the years with her wisdom and insight into the little things we, as women, can do to make a difference in others' lives. Many of her words come to mind as I think of how to pursue excellence in my walk with God and in my life, now as a wife and mom. Time to read it again!

As a 16-year veteran of the sixth-grade classroom I found Florence Littauer's interpretation of Silver Boxes excellent. Very often the slightest voice inflection or casual aside can damage the psyche of the 11-12 year old! Because students this age are going through so many emotional and physical changes, I believe this group is particularly vulnerable to these kinds of comments. Wouldn't it be wonderful if we could all keep a "silver box" permanently in our hands? It would make our job as educators so much easier, and just think of the precious lives that we could influence in a positive way. I enjoyed her chapter-by-chapter breakdown of the different kinds of "silver boxes." I think it explained the premise in an easy-to-understand format. This book is a must-read for parents and educators who want to produce children and students with healthy self-esteem who will develop into happy, productive adults.

Borrowed this book, then bought several copies for friends. Silver Boxes serves to heal those damaged by negative words, while awakening others to their own negative impact, and even teaching youngsters about the importance of being mindful of what they say! After reading it, I bought the tape for my 9 year old who was having self-esteem issues. Silver Boxes is the new language of our home as my daughter will come running in saying, I got a silver box today! Just loved it!

Florence is obviously a Silver Box sent from God, to share such real and needed topic. I have really enjoyed this book; I have shared it with the womens group I lead at my church. The real life examples within this book inspired me to become a better mother, daughter, friend and person. The author is sensitive and loveing while teaching the art of encouragement. You learn to uplift others while becomeing a better person yourself. I highly recommend this book if you have ever been hurt by harsh words or if you have ever hurt someone by an unkind comment. The Lord can use the stories in this book for you to find healing.

It is not easy to accept psychological advice that appears so simple (especially as a Perfect Melancholy as I am). Yet Florence has taken concepts that in reality are probably much more complex and reduced them to a usable format. This book will make you laugh - mark my words you will believe Florence spent weeks observing you. I'm not convinced that our personality traits are innate (rather than a product of our environment) as Florence argues, but regardless of this, the advice is no less powerful. I made my girlfriend read the book, have passed it on to my brother and his wife and wish I could pass it on to all those I care for. This book is only for those people who will find themselves in relationships or have to interact with people at some time in their lives.

PERSONALITY PLUS is one of the most enlightening books that I have ever read. Florence Littauer shows how to determine what type of temperament you fall into: Popular Sanguine, Powerful Choleric, Perfect Melancholy, or Peaceful Phlegmatic. Understanding that, we are then shown the strengths and weaknesses that accompany each of them. Littauer then teaches, gently and humorously, how we can improve ourselves and our relationships by simply recognizing and accepting the temperaments (in ourselves and others). For once we understand that the other temperaments are different from us because that is simply how they are built, and not because they wish to annoy us or make things difficult, it changes the way we look at and deal with people. As I read this book it was like a lightbulb popped on in my head--difficult people in my life were suddenly seen in a new light and dark motives I had attributed to them disappeared. And our relationships improved.

I highly recommend this book. It will help you in friendships, with family, with romance, and at work. I recommend it even more for those who are in positions of leadership. Understanding yourself and then understanding those around you will radically change your life interactions for the better. FIVE STARS.
