A Gift That Outlasts the Giver
A Letter is a Gift Forever, as is Florence Littauer's book by the same name. A beautiful book that is as lovely to read as it is to hold, it blends the blessing of past niceties with future joy. Florence Littauer demonstrates how a written word of love, encouragment, thanks or even forgiveness from the heart outlasts the actual heart. Drawing on a collection of letters that spans the generations, these written words inspire us all to write to those whom we love and care for, it's never too late. The joy received from the blessing sent in a letter will last forever.

This book changed my life!
This book has revolutionized my life, and everyone that I have loaned it to! I recommend this book to just about everyone. Certainly to Christians who have been told that if they would just "pray harder", they would see a break though into their problems. According to Fred Littauer, three quarters of the people sitting in the pews on Sunday morning, have had some sort of abuse in their childhood, but only one third of those have any memory of it. In other words, half of the congregation has been involved in some sort of abuse and doesn't even remember it! Meanwhile their lives are in turmoil and they have no idea why. This book can begin the journey of restoration for people who are willing to open the door to their past and have a good look at what may have actually happened to them.

Rejection Junkies

Rejection Junkies
Rejection Junkies is one of the best "Recovery" books I've read yet. Gary Lawrence is a straight shooter and doesn't hold back any punches with his style of presentation. This is a serious issue that everyone can relate to. It explains the root of rejection and how it is passed down and transfered and shows you how to overcome and heal scripturally. I started recommending this book before I finished reading it. Everyone in a position to help others or are seeking help for themselves should read this book.

I got excited about prayer!
This book reminded me of what God can do when people pray. Becky Tirabassi does a great job of using examples from her own life to encourage others. I was encouraged to pray in ways that I had not thought about before, and God has been answering my prayers! This book will change the way you look at prayer.

Very useful in understanding people and behavior.
Interesting book. It helped me to understand my family, and not try to mold them into my way of thinking. I don't believe we can "label" people so readily though. People are complicated, and there are many reasons why we think and act the way we do, our basic temperment is only one factor. However, this book is extremely insightful, and I highly recommended it.

Getting to know you...
A wonderful romp through the worlds of the different personalities and how they operate in all areas of life. From the working world, to families, to church life, and even humor and shopping, I enjoyed learning more about why we do the things we do and how to avoid the inevitable clashes that come through lack of understanding. I found this book very useful. It really helped me understand myself and those around me better. I appreciated the many real life, practical examples of how people with different personalities can have work and relationship problems, and how best to resolve those difficulties or even prevent them from happening at all.

A practical relationship enhancing tool for all professions.
If you are a leader in any area of your life, then you must read this book. And, once you read it, keep it where you keep your other reference books. I believe it is an essential tool just like your dictionary.

I have been trained in both the secular and Christian arena obtaining Bachelors' degrees in both. This should be required reading in all secular academic and seminary classes.

Florence and Marita's consistent teaching and practical instructions permeate this compilation where we often have many roles from mother to board president (as in my case) and need a tool to make ourselves more effective. This is a dynamic tool and the practical application presented is second to none.

I read this book after I read Personality Plus and Your Personality Tree and I suggest you read these in that order as well.

A must read and then keep for future reference!

Not Other "Get Over it" Book
The best books on depression are written by one who has been there! Florence has been there (just wait until you read her amazing story..) but she was determined to not stay there.

With practical advice, but also sympathy about the true effects of depression, Florence will lead you through ways to gain control of your emotions that want to weigh you down. I recommend this book frequently to people who live with chronic illness and also deal with the issues of depression.

unexpected humor dealing with one of life's great challenges
This is a humorous, methodical book of unexpected challenges. Ms. Littauer presents her life expectations and self improvement as she goes about dealing with extremely sensitive and challenging events in her life. She works herself, and us, over as she lets us in on her vision for herself, her future and her family. She cleverly leads us along and one wonders why the title, "blow the dark clouds of depression away". I expected someone to relate to my depression and my family experience. Here she is poking fun at herself and life and then Boom...the unthinkable happens to her. I loved this book.

Freeing Your Mind from Memories That Bind

Be very careful
It pains me to write a negative review of anything by Florence Littauer, one of my favorite Christian and self-help authors and speakers, but I question the "wisdom" of this book. The main premise is that if you have large memory gaps you were probably abused and have forgotten it or pushed it out. You are then urged to explore those "forgotten" memories until you can dig them out.

In typical Littauer fashion - a good one, I should add - the book is written with numerous personal examples of people Fred and Florence have encountered over the years. The problem is that all of these examples end up w/ the "abused" person uncovering "memories of abuse." Never does it end up that the person discovers they just have a poor memory.

I question the wisdom of this approach for three reasons: 1) Memory repression/retreval is very controversial by the psychological professionals, and is often proven to be faulty. 2) The book leaves no room for the possibility that someone w/ holes was anything but abused in some fashion. 3) Florence's impecable reputation puts her in the realm of "expert" in a field that she is not qualified as an expert.

I found myself - as someone who can't always even recall memories of some of the things my 6 year old did - questioning and searching for the "terrible" event in my past that caused me to be unable to remember so much. After going through this very dark search, I finally allowed myself - the book doesn't allow for such things - to come to the conclusion that the only thing wrong with me is I need more Ginko, not therapy for childhood abuse.

If you know you have been abused in the past, have questions about it, or know someone who has been, then this book may help you find answers. Otherwise, be very careful. It's a dark path with a questionable destination.

EXCELLENT
There are so many questions that we all have as to why we are the way we are. A lot stems back to childhood. Some of these issues that adults deal with are sometimes so deep rooted that some do not know where to begin. This book really takes you back to different stages in your life, memories that may still have a strong impact as to why you do and don't do certain things. Ailments that started...certain odors that are bothersome... certain rooms in a home that just don't feel right. Whatever that it is...you just MAY find some answers in this book or at least start a journey of healing. It is only with the Lord's timing that someone will be healed of past circumstances. If you are prepared to go deeper and are willing to let Him reveal things of the past, this book will be a tremendous help, even if it is for someone that you love. Mine has been continually circulating.

Please Republish This Valuable Book
My husband and I have counseled hundreds of people and have found this book to be invaluable in helping many who had memory losses during childhood. Sometimes it was one particular incident and other times it was certain years that could not be recalled. I personally have a friend who has no memory before age 7 and is content to leave it at that. But for many others who have been helped, I would say go ahead and read it. We have a need for the book frequently and are very distressed over the fact that they are no longer available. Please get more copies printed for us and others who need and want help in order to be free. Fred and Florence Littauer have made a great contribution in helping people. Thank you.

After Every Wedding Comes a Marriage

obnoxiously conservative
This book is so christian and sexist, it's hard for me to believe it's for real. One chapter, "The Other Woman," is devoted to how a wife should stay attractive and pleasant to keep her husband faithful. Another chapter, "How To Be A Pleasing Wife," explains that wives should "love the lord, have a submissive attitude, aim for a quiet and gentle spirit, and improve their looks."

Marriage 101
I was a little unsure of entering into such a committment with my intended because we had such a hard time talking to each other about difficult topics. Everytime we'd broach an issue too painful or too overwhelming, he would clam up or I'd storm off upset. The advice in this book helped us understand some of our differences, and made us realize what could make our marriage stronger. I definitely recommend this book for every couple, whether they're not yet married or have been married over fifty years.

This book is a must for all couples...
This book, by far, is one of the most informative books I have ever read. It is a must for all couples, whether they have been married for years or are just planning to get married. It helped me understand the different personalities. From a christian stand-point, I finally see the light. Until I had read the book, I always thought my husband was the problem. Until I checked my own maturity level, did I realize that I had to stop placing the blame on others and be accountable for my own actions. Florence & Fred Littauer did an excellent job on this book. I give this book a golden 5 stars. God bless them both...
