Darling yet clever story
What a shame that this book is out of print. We've checked it out from our library at least three times and my 1 year old and 3 year old love it. I think it's the best of the "Sam" series. It has darling interaction between Sam and Doggie, with none of the tears in some of the other stories. It also have a clever ending that makes my older child laugh. I'd love to buy a copy for our home, but hesitate to pay the $..... dollars that used book sellers are asking.

Sam's Wagon
Not only is this a good book for toddlers, but it remains a favorite as your child gets older and begins to read. The words in this book are repeated. The pictures provide hints to unfamiliar words. My 5 year old son feels quite proud when he reads this book to our family!

Great book for young toddlers just starting to grasp humor.
My 20 month old son loves Sam's Wagon. The sentences are short and to the point "Sam has a wagon." as Sam loads up his wagon with his (and most toddlers) favorite things. Then the doggie has to keep rescuing each item as it falls out until the last two pages when the doggie has to "rescue" the cookie that has fallen out. My son laughs at every reading and anticipates each item being put in and falling out of the wagon. And I like it well enough to be able to read it to him 3 times daily for the past 2 months. That's worth 5 stars in my opinion.

Love "The Wild Baby"
I LOVE this book. I got it at a garage sale when my son was small, maybe 3 or 4.... We loved the adventures of the wild baby. Now that my son is 16, I plan to hang on to my copy for grandkids! :)

Delightful!
Cute and funny and memorable rhyme, with imaginative illustrations on fine paper. One of the best kids books we had when my children were little. I want to buy it for a friend's children, and will not part with my copies!

A clever capivating book about a child-like dog.
My 2 year old daughter loves Louie and all of his antics. She especially likes his search for Teddy. I like this book because it is easy for her to follow, has a captivating plot and beautiful illustrations. I only wish there were Louie sequel books available!

Delights in it's simplicity
The Sam books by Barbro Lindgren are very simple and wonderful to share with small children who are just starting to be interested in books. My one year old loves this book. The pictures are nice and the text on each page short, making it an ideal choice for little ones with limited attention spans.

Escaping from reality, how to wrap your troubles in dreams
Like most of Barbro Lindgrens books,The Wild Baby Gets a Puppy, can be read by both adults and children and be enterpreted in completely different ways. Maybe children will not realise the depths and the philosphical dilemmas that this book is suggesting. In most of Barbro Lindgren's books, the main theme is to escape from reality by entering your dreams and expanding your mind. In this book the wild baby is dreaming of a puppy for birthday present. When he's finally celebrating his brithday with his mother he sadly finds out that his dream about the puppy would not be fulfilled.Instead his mother gives him a puppy made out of cloth,in his anger and dissapointment the wild baby tries to shoot the dog with his wooden shotgun... But at the night of his birthday all of his "animals" wakes up and they have all become alive! They leave the house in exitement and admire the moon. And they all agree to fly there .The puppy has grown wings and off they go!The space seems to have a dream planet for all the travellers;for the giraffe, for the rabbit and for the baby.... The book is very symbolical and the way I see it,I think it wants to say that we can not find real fulfilment on this planet, the only way we can experience pleasure and fascination is to enter our own minds,it may not be easy to do so but once we have accomplished it,we will see that our minds are like the space. An endless and utterly beautiful landscape where we can get in touch with our true selves and where we can find our "dream planets". Where the ultimate ecstasies can be experienced. In this space all the compulsions of our society has completely vanished as well as our terms of "time",and I think that is essential in order to experience joy. I highly recommend this book it can be read over and over and every time it's depths will expand.

Benny's had enough
Benny's had enough is a wonderful book about a litle pig who doesn't want to cooperate with his mama while she is cleaning. Finally, Benny decides he's had enough. He and his dirty side-kick, Little Piggy, go out to find a new place to live. Benny realizes life on his own isn't as wonderful as he thought. My 2 year old daughter LOVES this book. (I love this book!) She relates to Benny and Little Piggy and the trials of having to clean up. The pictures are so good you can "see" what's going through Benny's head. Especially realistic is the look on Benny's face when he decides he just has to have a roll in a mudhole. Most parents can relate to trying to clean up after a little one and the struggle to clean a dirty lovey drug around by their child. Mama's response when she sees Benny returning and Little Piggy cleaned is upbeat and positive.

"Oh, Benny"
Benny's not the only one getting angry in this book, Mama is just as frustrated as all her cleaning is being sabotaged by uncooperative Benny. Benny has had enough when Mama tries to wash Little Piggy and declares "I can't live here" as he walks out the door with Little Piggy in tow. I love Benny's facial expressions of mad, happy, mischevious and finally happy as he returns home after an adventure that ends up with a clean Little Piggy.

Can't Get Enough!
This is my new favorite book. I read this to a group of preschoolers and their parents, and the adults liked it as much as the kids. It's wonderful to see a character in a picture book get frustrated and really mad! But the book is also sweet and very funny in a modern, quirky way.

Great Beginning Reader...
My children (4 and 6) loved this book, and all the other books in the series. Simple words, short sentences, short books, and familiar concepts made these books a winner with my family. These are great books for those who still can't read all the way through the Dr. Seuss books yet.

Perfect book for toddlers and adults
The entire series is perfect: jewel-like stories that have drama--catharsis and resolution in just a few pages. This one is excellent, though Sam's Cookie is his most satisfying adventure overall.

Speaks to the little ones right where they live
The Sam books have been with us for 10 years and three children. No other books compare for 18-36 month olds. The drama is so real to them: dogs are frightening to these littlest of children, and it is real drama to have a cookie stolen from their hands by a big, hungry dog. My sons are immediately drawn in by the stories. Another favorite is "Sam's Car", where Sam gets into a fight over a car with a little friend, until Mommy steps in with another car to save the day.

One of the best for the very young
Around our house, Lindgren's "Sam's" books are hands-down favorites. Most books for babies are picture books -- mere catalogues of static images. A little boring after awhile, don't you think? Each of the "Sam's" books has a real narrative with a lively yet simple story that even a one year old can follow with delight. It's all there -- good characters, drama, humor, exciting climax and comforting resolution. This has got to be a cognative uptick from "See the ball? The red ball." Our Sam's books have been handed down through three children and have lasted ten years. The visually witty Sam's Cookie is everyone's favorite.

How many times have YOU read it ?
A fantastic story about a brave hero who infiltrate the evil monster's base camp and steal som of it's food suplies. This is a very exiting adventure.

Benny and the Binky
Benny and the Binky. By Barbro Lindgren. Illustrated by Olof Landstrom. R & S Books, 2002. 24 pages. [money](Preschool)

A binky may be the only thing that calms a screaming baby pig, but the excruciation of growing out of that binky is the ingenious subject of the irresistibly hilarious Benny and the Binky by Olof Landstrom (Benny's had enough, 9/99). Benny finally has the new baby brother he has been waiting for. But all Benny's new sibling does is scream - until he receives a binky from his mother. Now Benny wants one too, but he's told he's too old. This causes Benny to "steal" his brother's binky and hit the road, but he soon realizes why he's too old when several groups ridicule him during his adventures for being some "kind of oddball". The comedy of Benny's journey (with binky in mouth) comes through the cast of characters he meets along the way, including "three tough pigs with soccer shoes (on)." They are shown preparing to chase Benny, each in a three-point stance, in the masterfully done illustration that tells the story even better than the text itself. Each character's personality is colorfully brought to life as each page is turned. Unlike the classic picture books, Benny and the Binky uses modern-day concepts and ideas, such as a dog working on a laptop computer and listening to headphones, in a progressively entertaining way. As all of us have a favorite picture book from our childhood, I feel that many of today's preschool aged children will someday look back at this book with the same fond memories. At the same time I, as a 28-year-old man, had several entertaining laughs at the "corky" humor throughout this book and will enjoy reading it to my children.

This is too much!
This book just grows and grows on you. The text is simple enough for the youngest toddler, and the illustrations make it so funny that you will not mind the repeated requests for "read it again!" Every kid and adult can identify with the myriad kidlike emotions in this book. Get it.

Oh for crying out loud
Benny and the Binky is a very funny book written in a wonderfully simplistic way that I'm sure children would love. The illustrator is brilliant, and Benny's expressions are just priceless. You will laugh out loud at the "three tough pigs." For those of you who find it appalling that the three tough pigs want to punch Benny in the snout -- perhaps you should stick with gentler classics such as "Little Red Riding Hood." Benny and the Binky is just plain fun for kids and adults.
