This is a wonderful book-rich with history and classic recipes! I grew up eating at Joe's on our annual trips to the Miami area. The food and atmosphere were always memorable. I have especially enjoyed creating the salads, sides, and luscious desserts that enhanced the stone crab experience in my own kitchen. This book is a must have for both the recipes and the tales that have built the persona of Joe's Stone Crab.

This 1979 book contains the findings of four years of fieldwork done in the 60s and early 70s by the well known American anthropologist Richard Lee (and others) among the !Kung San, a hunter-gatherer group living on the border of Botswana and Namibia in Southern Africa. All realms of !Kung life are documented in great detail, including the Kalahari desert environment they live in, its plant resources and animals, the tools the !Kung use, their hunting skills, the division of labour between men and women, and much more. It doesn't stay with written descriptions of the !Kung (which always have the danger of subjectivity), but the information is supplemented with a large number of tables and figures with quantitative information, like relative hunting success of !Kung men, caloric and protein levels in the !Kung diet, and !Kung homicide statistics. Some of the information might surprise you. The lives of hunter-gatherers are often thought of as "nasty, brutish, and short", but the !Kung show hardly any signs of malnutrition, it turns out they need to work only 12 to 21 hours a week to get enough food, and there are quite some !Kung over 60 years of age. Studying a hunting and gathering lifestyle is very important because humans have lived like this for about 95% of their existence and so it contains valuable information about were we come from. Unfortunately, in the world there are hardly any people living like this anymore. Lee reports that at the end of his fieldwork even the !Kung were, for better or worse, changing their way of life quickly with the arrival of agriculture, shops, beer, and a cash economy.

I have used this text this year in my motor learning class. It covers all the basics from both a motor program view as well as a dynamic systems view and is a must for any student interested in teaching, coaching or applying motor learning techniques to their everyday lives.

It seems to me that if you are good in managing your life it will carry the idea to be good managers in the company. I think that it is very true.

Basically well written and excellently researched , this book offers insights on the critical battles of the Civil War in western Virginia during the Spring of 1864, a subject usually not covered in detail. The details provided and the sequence presented on military operations give a very useful overview of strategy and tactics in this area in 1864. Richard Duncan, the author, details the unsuccessful attempts by General Hunter's army to live off the land which contrasts with Sherman's success in Georgia. While Sherman's effect on the civilian population is well known, the harsh treatment of civilians in the Shenandoah Valley is not as widely covered in print; and Richard Duncan's account provides much useful information and references on the subject of the Union Army's relationship with the area's civilians. The importance of the campaigns in the Shenandoah Valley during the Spring of 1894 should not be ignored. Had General Hunter been successful, the Civil War

may have ended six months earlier. This book well describes Grant's strategy, Lee and Davis responses and the numerous mistakes made by both armies. Making this account enjoyable, is the inclusion of brief biographical sketches of the field officers involved before discussing each operation.

The book suffers from a lack of good and sufficient maps. The maps provided do little to support the text. Critically needed are maps on individual battles. This is especially true of Chapter 2, The Dublin Raid, where maps are provided only on Crook's and Averell's routes to and from Dublin; however, maps on some of the raid's engagements/battles would greatly enhance the text. In addition, maps are badly needed for the engagements fought near Lynchburg. However, both the professional historian and the Civil War buff, would do well to read this work.

This is one of the best books I have read about the Civil War. This book takes you right into the battles from Antietam to Chancellorsville.I love the maps and illustrations. This book is an eyewitness account of these battles. I would highly reccomend this book to History and Civil War Buffs.

This book shows in beautiful color each piece in the Sara Lee Millenium Gift. I saw the exhibit today and it is fantastic. This exhibit is the last time the pieces will be together before being dispersed to various museums in the US and abroad. This book is a wonderful way to gain insight into the collection process, the man behind it, and the individual pieces. I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in corporate collections--Sara Lee Corporation is/was a significant pioneer in this area.

Mr. Lincoln's City: An Illustrated Guide To The Civil War Sites Of Washington by U.S. Army Major General Richard M. Lee (Retired) is enhanced with 15 maps and 130 historical photographs as it offers the reader a series of major tours throughout downtown Washington, DC, to 80 sites that were significant to the events occurring between 1861 and 1865 during the American Civil War. There were a total of 68 forts encircling Washington, which the Union forces utilized as a major war base with its rail net and staging areas. This proved critically important as Confederate forces approached the city when the great battles took place in neighboring Virginia to the detriment of the Union Army. Here land marked for the onsite visitor as well as the armchair traveler are the Washington Monument slaughterhouse, the fetid creeks and canals, the sick, the wounded and the dying lying in hospitals strewn across the city. This is also the place where President Lincoln brought his forces to final victory, preserved the union, and resulted in Washington becoming the premier city of a reunited republic -- an unassailable position it has held down to the present day. Mr. Lincoln's City is an enthusiastically recommended addition to American History and Civil War History reference collections, as well as an ideal resource for planning a Civil War oriented tour of Washington, DC.

Richard Lee Byers returns to give us yet another excellent novel, which I bought immediately after having read his book Netherworld. Someone is roaming the streets of a calm city in the South, draining humans recklessly and thereby endangering the Masquerade. At the same time, the local kindred find their financial assets under attack, their art all over the world is being destroyed, and their Prince has mysteriously fallen ill. The Toreador elder Elliot Sinclair must get his act together and take charge of his city before it is too late, for all of this is only meant to weaken the kindred before the final attack... In one chapter you get to follow the respected Toreador elder, and in the next a Caitiff neonate, both fighting for the same cause but still enemies who don't meet until the end of the story. What nobody knows however is that this is part of a battle between two Methuselahs, and in the end the stakes are higher than anybody could have imagined.

I strongly recommend this book, it has everything you could ask for in a V:tM novel. Byers doesn't fall for the temptation of creating characters with powers they shouldn't have (common in WoD literature), which only makes it more interesting. The kindred act just the way a member of this or that clan should, and even the most noble of them have to struggle against their bestial nature. In short, this book can be used as inspiration for your own roleplaying, or simply for the joy of reading a great story.
