The premise of this story is that after a trip to the vet to be neutered a dog acts differently. He growls at the mother on the first day he is back home and bites two people within a few days.
Building to an emotional climax by purposefully being obscure with dark scenes and half-finished thoughts, the writer asks us to accept the decision of the family to have the dog put down as the best and logical choice.
There is no mention of secluding the dog for a few days as he recovers, of giving him to someone who can handle him, of taking him to a professional trainer, or of consulting with the veterinarian. There is no mention that he should have been neutered BEFORE he was three years old!
It astoundingly is agreed upon that the dog has gone bad and is irredeemable, with no other recourse. There is even little 'damage control' from the mother and father for the two kids in the household who are devastated by the hopelessness and eventual loss.

How about you find out WHY instead of killing him to solve a problem that may be trauma or medical related. How many seeds will be planted in how many brains as young folks read this (and since it is in print it must be fact)and it is absorbed as a normal solution? This disturbing reasoning would be an excellent topic of conversation for parents and kids over 10 to discuss that ink and paper do not make it gospel.
