Sharing Secret Opinions
I really loved the book--408 pages of interesting, fun and insightful secret opinions. I got great insights into the benefits of planning and taking charge of your life. Not too many men would help German prisoners to evacuate a sinking American LST at the risk of almost losing his own life. A great insight into such a high level education at Harvard Business School. I found some of his secrets, such as legalizing narcotics very insightful and why mustard bottles irrates him, being a great hot dog lover. All in all the book was great to read and I sure look forward to a sequel--hope that Mr. Gerson has more "Secret Opinion" to share.....

Boat-owner's widow's suspicions confirmed. Proper hilarity.
Recommended for the woman who has definitely figured out her spouse, boyfriend, brother, dad, etc. and still can't believe it. MacManus takes us into the mind of the fisherman in this tale. Even my husband (who has difficulty laughing at himself) laughed at this tape despite himself. A great gift for anyone who's ever planned a fishing trip, bought a rod and reel, and especially for the boat owner's "widow."

A new look at Lipton and Abstract Expressionism
It was good to see a new approach to Abstract Expressionist sculpture where the author discusses sculpture and not painting in the context of America in the 1950s and beyond. The text discusses the themes of the era and the way the art represents those themes and American culture. Beautiful images.

Shame and Its Sisters: A Silvan Tomkins Reader

Silvan Tomkins Redux
The work of psychologist Silvan Tomkins may finally earn reappraisal, thanks to this collection. Editors Sedgwick and Frank have chosen wisely from Tomkins' four-volume investigation of affect, Affect,Imagery, and Consciousness, presenting in this collection an overview of Tomkins'groundbreaking work.

Silvan Tomkins outlines a way of thinking about affect that is part-science, part-poetry; his work on shame, in particular, offers insights not just for psychologists but for anyone interested in the mysterious and pervasive mechanisms of shame in social and intimate life. The brilliant introduction, "Shame in the Cybernetic Fold," relocates Tomkins' work for a contemporary and interdisciplinary audience. Fans of editor Sedgwick will be fascinated, I think, by her explorations in unfamiliar territory; equally, the introduction excites interest in newcomer Frank. I found this book enthralling, leading me straight to Tomkins' own collections.

It's A Classic !
SINGER IN THE SHADOWS is a most current account of the life of Pearl Curran, a woman living in St. Louis during the first part of the 20th century who channelled, originally through a Ouija board, the spirit of a 17th century woman named Patience Worth. The story of Pearl Curran and Patience Worth is an enigma, not easily explanable without an acceptance of spiritism or reincarnation. The case of Patience Worth and the poems, novels and conversations she left behind provide perhaps the best rock hard evidence of life after death. Mr. Litvag writes an easily readable comprehensive overview of this strange case begining in 1913 when Patience Worth first appeared at Pearl Curran's Ouija board and continuing through 1937 when Pearl Curran died. Perhaps the time is more appropriate now in the 21st century for the reissue of this classic book than when it was first published in 1972. Patience Worth's work requires serious attention by scientists, writers and spiritists alike. It would be a great loss to allow the writings of Patience Worth to fade over time. Anyone wishing to become informed about the evidence of life after death should start with this book by Irving Litvag. After reading Mr. Litvag's book one may find an irresistable urge to read every poem, novel and conversation that Patience Worth wrote. She's that good!

Words into Image.
Mr.Elman has hit the nail right on the head with this book. I am a part time writer with lots of ideas and up untill now I had many, many questions about each and every aspect of writing screenplays/teleplays. Mr.Elman has successfully answered all of my questions and more besides. He has also managed to inspire me at the same time. His book deals with many topics, including the following; The Outline, The Script, Character, Openings, Endings, Conflict, Suspense, Climax, Resolution,

Dialogue, Plots, Writers Block, This book is crammed with information and it is written by a man who knows what he is talking about. It is written in such a fashion that is it very easy to read and understand. Thanks to Mr.Elman's humorous style of imparting information he make reading his book fun and interesting. If you are an up and comming writer or someone who would like to understand more about how the "nuts and bolts" of screenpays and teleplays are constructed, this is the book for you. In my book, Mr.Elman is "some man for one man". Nollaig Fahy

Great Songs from Great Movies!
There are too many wonderful songs, each a treasure, to mention them all. It is enough to say that the best from Berlin's movie musicals are included here. Among the many are "Sisters" and the title song from White Christmas, "Top Hat, White Tie and Tails," "Cheek to Cheek," and "Steppin'Out." My friends and I have enjoyed this book so much I am ordering others in the Berlin series. A great collection of songs by one of America's greatest composers.

Standing Flower: The Life of Irving Pabanale, an Arizona Tewa Indian

excellent treatment of a life history
Robert Black does something unusual in this book; he edits and annotates the life history of a Hopi/Tewa Indian who was not a traditionalist, nor an especially warm or amusing man. Standing Flower - the traditional name of Irving Pabanale - was a Hopi policeman, judge, and negotiator with the white government early in this century. Black sat with him for many summers, recording his story. In this book, he does an outstanding job of writing comprehensive explanations and history to anchor this man's tale. I've studied many life histories, and always find them to be the best way to learn about other cultures. This book offers both the narrative and a scholarly - but readable - education about the Hopi and Tewa of Arizona. Well done!
