Delightful adventure!
The writing of Sonya Rose is a delight! Goldie's adventures are an enormous assortment of wide-eyed childlike spontaneity that captivates the childs heart. Heart-warming and fun, I think this is a good gift for any child.

Newcomers to Old Towns: Suburbanization of the Heartland

Eye-opening for a small-town newcomer
This is a terrific book, especially for people like me now living in a rural small town similar to the towns discussed in this book. I recommend this book to any "newcomer," such as myself, to become familar with how "old-timers" think, act and live. It gave me a real appreciation for my "new" small town, which fortunately still has a great sense of community.

Dark and Delightful!
Sonya Hartnett has really struck the psychological nail on the head in this dark and twisted narrative. Twins Ravel and Indigo live in a haunted mansion overrun by rats, with only each other as company. Hartnett develops the characters with such precision, that it is undoubtedly a book that can't be put down. I hung on every word from the shocking start to the shocking end. It is an educated look at the psychology of isolation, the extremities of love, and the power one can hold over another. Don't be put off, however, in thinking that this book is a hard read. Hartnett's ability to flow with her words makes it understandable, but intriguing and exciting at the same time. For those who like a bit of the macabre, it is definitely a 'different' and unique story, which I loved and will always be one of my favourites of all times.

Great, easy-to-follow recipes
This great cookbook has a wealth of Scandinavian recipes (113, if I counted correctly), organized into seven chapters: soups, appetizers and snacks, fish and shellfish, meat poultry and game, vegetable dishes and salads, desserts, and cakes cookies and breads. Each recipe has the flag of its country of origin, so you can even pick-and-choose among the nation of your choice, if you so wish.
The text is reasonably large, and the book is large enough to lay open without anything holding it open, which I liked. Wonderful pictures are scattered throughout, thought I could have wished for more. (That's a small complaint, though.)
So far, I have made the Potato Dumplings Stuffed with Bacon (p.56) and the Sour Cream Waffles (p. 96), and both were delicious! I am planning on making several other things, but I have no basis to comment on them, yet. Overall, I found this to be a very nice cookbook, one well worth having!

"A real world, common sense, self-care and survival book!"
"Not at all like the typical 70's and 80's 'Dress for Success", or assertiveness training guides for women." This book won't teach you how to mime he good ole' boy network, or how to wear a power suit...
A real world, common sense survivial book, which teaches how to internalize the 'care-giver' in us. It is a wise, thought provoking, logical approach to self preservation, self empowerment and one of the original (and best,) self improvement books for women. An absolutely great gift for your daughters, as they reach womanhood, enter the workforce or marriage!"
I am very disapointed that the book is currently unavailable from the publisher. I've looked everywhere for it. It is a must have in every women's library... (Please reorder.

" A Slice of Pie"
This is a wonderful book filled with the down home facts and feelings of Country Living and Loving. I was so touched by every chapter as the writer lets us feel the character's tender emotions. It's not a sappy love story but a true and honest view on first love, marriage, trials and tribulations married people experience. And the experience of losing that tender love in more ways than one. And then showing us how the character finds the courage to move on and experience a different kind of love. Knowing that it's not a forever love. But it leads the character to mature and grow to finally find the second love of her life. This book leaves you with hope. Hope in alot of areas. The first thought that comes to my mind is " God never gives us more than we can handle." A true down home love story. I highly recommend. This is not a typical book. It is filled with inspiration and hope in so many ways. I took my time reading it. I wanted to savor every chapter and the feelings that Sarah was feeling throughout each chapter. I will pass this on to my family and friends. And I will be waiting anxiously for Sonya Childers next book.
Returning Home
I read "A Slice of Pie" and thoughly enjoyed it. The author drew me in immediately with her discription of the characters one by one. I never felt like I lost track so to speak of any of them. She is complete with her story involving each of them to the point of not loosing site of the main character Sara and yet I was not left wondering what happened to any of the others. Very well written and planned. Very easy and quick story. One I found hard to put down and yet complete. The author does not drag out her story. She is direct and to the point. What I liked most about this story is that it remined me of my hometown when I was growing up. The era the author had choosen to write about is a very important period of time in a young persons life and builds up to where we all are now. These, I believe, are the times we all as teens remember and relate to better than at any other time in our lives. Sonya Kate Childers has in her writting "A Slice of Pie" taken us all back to some of those most awkward, youthful and sometimes most uncomfortable stages of our teen years. Through her characters and events she shares tragedies, happiness, sorrow and love. With this, I believe "A Slice of Pie" to be a very good book for anyone who enjoys a mix of life itself. An emotional, fun and easy read!!
I had the honor of meeting the author before reading this book. "A Slice of Pie" is truly a touching and honest look at rural Missouri life. Anyone who has lived in a small town or hoped to will love the life and characters Sonja Kate tells us about. She writes with true emotion and a wonderful ability to make you feel like you really know the people involved and were actually sitting across the kitchen table with them, enjoying a nice visit and a little slice of homemade pie! I hope this is only the beginning of a long line of books by a very gifted author.

I think every teenage girl and woman needs to read this book. It is such an inspiration. Each of the quotes contained in this book provide such truth, insight, and first aid for women.
It was hard to put this book down without reading all of the quotes at once, but I wanted to save some for later. This is a little book that you want to keep handy and read over and over. As a matter of fact, I plan to purchase several of them for friends and family.
