Fun with goldfish
Another of Satoshi Kitamura's quirky, fun books, featuring a cameo appearance by Boots the Cat (or could it be Nicholas?). My daughter thinks "Me and My Cat" is better, though.
Whoever thought there was this much in a fishbowl?
Satoshi Kitamura's illustrations are delightful and his story is wonderfully zany. Two goldfish are playing hide-n-seek in a small bowl, but the bowl seems to be much bigger as we see octopi, eels, and many other strange things in that small fish bowl (like a grand piano!). Be sure to look carefully at the pictures, because Kitamura's drawings are so detailed, you never know what you might find

Imaginations soar
"In the Attic" is a great children's book featuring the wonders of a child's imagination. We have used this book in a family literacy project at our local public library and the parents love it too. This is a great book to teach readers to pay close attention to the details in a book's illustrations.
ENTER A WHOLE NEW WORLD
"In The Attic" is a wonderful invitation into the world of imagination! A small boy climbs a toy ladder into the attic to play, to discover, to dream. The illustrations invite the reader/listener to become part of the fantasy while also inspiring ideas and questions for discussion. Many possibilities for literature extension activities and creative play. Appropriate for school-aged children as well as preschoolers.

Funny book, great pictures, and monsters to boot
This book is now one of my two and a half year old's favorites. Lily is having a pleasant walk home, but her dog is not - around every corner he sees the monsters. My daughter and I have a name for every monster in the book - the water monster, the garbage monster, etc. Great for dealing with the stage she is at right now with the monsters under the dining room table!
Plus, the illustrations in the book are georgeous!
Great treatment of childhood fears
Beautifully illustrated for the 3-to-6 years crowd. A great turnaround story. The child does the confident walking while the dog does the imagining and worrying with lots of subtle and obvious humour along the way. This was read by an enthusiastic wannabe reader over and over and over with smiles and giggles. What a treat!

Memento: the Sheep Edition
Woolly the sheep cannot sleep and wanders out of doors. He forgets what his house looks like, where he lives, and what's inside. He is accidentally scared into his house (and I'm not making this up) by UFOs; sleeps in a random bed (his own); and manages to lull himself to sleep, which is what he wanted to do all along.
An inability to create long-term memories? Or the affairs of a not-too-bright sheep?
I actually like this book (honestly) for three reasons -- the somewhat bizarre storyline, which manages to keep my attention; the great watercolors, which keeps my daughter engaged, and the fact that it's a counting book but not obviously so. Counting is not part of the storyline, but incidental.
My favorite children's picture book
This is a book about a sheep named Wooly who can't get to sleep one night, so he goes for a walk. As he walks he counts the different things he sees, so besides a great story it is a counting book. In the end, he falls asleep while thinking about his family... counting sheep. The story is sweet, and the watercolor pictures are full of lovely details. This is the gift I buy for every baby shower that I go to.
Charming, imaginative and soothing... We both loved it!
Wolly is a most engaging insomniac! An evening stroll across a starlit meadow takes Wolly to a big house where he enjoys a bubble bath before drifting off to sleep. There are grasshoppers, stars and of course, bubbles to find and count. The artwork is lively and perceptive.
I read this book to my son over and over and neither of us tired of it - which may be the highest accolade a parent can give. Both a great counting book and a fine "winding down" bedtime story!
I miss this book!

Destruction - too strong for me
My feelings towards this book are ambivalent. This is not one of my favorite children books - reason being this book deals with destruction and chaos, even the end of the world and for me - with my adult associations, this is very unpleasant. My child however accepts this book "as is" without questioning for once the reality / validity of the story and the power of Arthur's anger - an anger so destructive it ruins the world("Look mom, his grandma is an astronaut now"). The text is very simple and clear and the subject is very close to a child's heart... ("when I get mad"...)I think that the other reviewers are correct in saying that with the right guidance, an adult can lead the conversation and discussion of the book into an educational experience. I am just uncertain that I wish to do it. I also agree that the topic is very strong and can be related to what anger and hatred can cause - wars in general and the stupidity of man... but do you really want to get into this when you read a bedtime story...?
not helpful or realistic
I bought this book looking for something to help children explore the emotion of anger, and hopefully open up a realistic dialogue to include problem-solving for angry situations. This book's plot is fantasy-based, and offers no jump off point for a realistic dialogue with children. Also, since anger is sometimes a scary feeling for very young children, I did not like that Arthur's anger actually caused his world to explode. This is not very reassuring to children looking for mastery over their emotions.
Beatriz and Constantin's review
Constantin, my 7 year old son, tends to loose his temper... This book really opened his eyes about self control. "How could a little boy generate such a mess?" he wondered and laughed... We explained to him that sometimes your bad temper can ruin your day and other's and it does not take you anywhere, in the end, you do not even remember how everything started! All that chaos and energy for nothing! Constantin loved those last pages where Arthur is sitting on is bed in outer space... We read this book in Spanish and liked it so much that now want to order it in English.

About the cats
This book is about cats, and here are some of the things that are in the book: charades, swimming, and getting fish biscuits. And you should really check out the front and back pages. Boots can do magic! One of the reasons that I like this book is because its funny.

Learning the Letters.
This is an entertaining alphabet book that does more than help children learn the ABC's. It also helps in increasing their vocabulary and understanding of the world. The pictures in the book look like paper cut outs pasted upon the page. Each page is filled with lots of things that start with the letter of the page. For example everything from apples to armadillos to acorns are pictured and labeled on the "A" page. At the bottom of each page is a question and an illustration that can be answered by careful examining the items listed above. For example, on the "D" page the question is "Why should Dog and Duck duck?" (the answer is dynamite). Kids enjoy looking at this book and it's fun to read to children on a one-on-one basis.
