Inspirational and heart wrenching
I was the Managing Editor of this book and it had me in tears as I worked on it. The stories are so compelling and the writing so superb that it just draws you in. The people and their families are YOUR family and friends and neighbors--I felt like I knew them. I usually try not to get too emotionally involved with the books I work on, but it was impossible not to with THREE ON THE EDGE.
I enjoyed this book very much - interesting & compelling
My sister has breast cancer and a co-worker's brother is HIV-positive. We dove into this book and kept underlining passages that are of help. My summary: Very compelling reading; you, the layperson, really learn about medicine that seemed intimidating and confusing before - this can help the person you love make choices.

A witty, entertaining, yet honest & touching memoir
This book is a revelation. Imagine a memoir written by a 30-year-old; nostalgic & informative, yet hip and witty. After reading this book, I am on the lookout for John Kelly in a big way. This is an author who can tell the honest truth about an often-hard way to grow up, and make it truly funny without taking anything away from the struggle. Without question one of the most all-around satisfying books I have read in a long time. To Mr. Kelly, if you're out there - keep writing!!

The most detailed and interesting book on the subject.
As a college art history major, an intern at a house museum, and having worked on the restoration of several early Connecticut homes, I've found this book indespensible and one of my most important resources. It's straight-forward, well-organized, and includes everything from building techniques to decorative hardware to the history behind styles. The detailed illustrations make it especially easy to understand. If there is one book a person interested in early American architecture should buy, it's this one.

Calvinism Abroad
This book is an excellent survey of the influence of Calvinism in not only Europe but early America as well. It does a wonderful job of capturing the historical as well as theological influence of perhaps the greatest theologian since the Apostles, John Calvin.

excellent logic intro for computer science
I found this book to be an excellent introduction to logic as applied to artificial intelligence. The book first introduces the basics of propositional calculus and truth tables. This allows a reader to become familiar with the material before the axiomatic approach to logic is introduced in a later chapter. The axiomatic system chosen for propositional calculus is different than the one used by Burris in his book (Logic for Mathematics and Computer Science). Burris has the axiom schema of (A and not A). Kelly uses a different set. Kelly's description is very good and he gives many examples. Also, he covers semantic tableaux in good detail (Schaum's outline on logic also covers semantic tableaus, but a different name is given). Finally, he introduces resolution which serves as the basis for many automated reasoning programs and Prolog !!!
The second half of the book repeats the same approach for predicate calculus (introduction, axiomatic approach, semantic tableaux, and resolution). Again, the description is clear and has many examples.
Overall, an excellent book for learning logic from an AI point-of-view.

GREAT FOR A YOUNG INVENTOR TYPE!
Our 8 year old son is fascinated with how moving parts on machines work. This book has been such a treasure to our family! He has read this book too many times to count, and now has our 6 year old and 3 year old intrigued by it as well. The age range says 4-8, but I think it would easily interest an older child as well. (It is interesting for this Mom to read!) It explains, through the use of "mechanically correct drawings", how things we have in our home, and use in our daily lives, work. I would recommend this for any youth who is curious about the world around them.

Kelly loves words
Although this book is out of date, it is interesing to see how an Advanced Placement English teacher would write an aptitude placement book. John D. Kelly currently teaches at the specialized Bronx High School of Science in New York.

John Kelly- The Penultimate Performance Artist
When you say the word "singer/songwriter," immediately people like Joni Mitchell, Bob Dylan and Paul Simon come to mind. Say the word "chef" and you automatically think of Julia Child or Prudhomme. Yet, when you say "performance artist," only one name rises above the rest like the aromatic smoke from an incense flame- John Kelly. What is a performance artist? What sets them apart from other artists? Why does John Kelly continue to inspire other artists and performers? Sheer brilliance- and passion. Whether on the stage at the Pyramid Club, Wigstock, or a Broadway theatre- Mr. Kelly's intimate yet intense portrayal of characters touches you- startles you- provokes you. This is his remarkable story. Long live John Kelly.

Right on Target - Buy This Book!
This book definitively places the decline of the Catholic Faith in America where it belongs: on weak or dissenting bishops. Such bishops are no more than judas-goats leading other goats among the flock to the slaughter while the sheep of their flocks are stranded in the world without shepherds. It was gratifying to see the love on Msgr. Kelly's part for those who remain faithfully in Christ's Body - such love is all too scarce among the Church's leadership these days. Thank you, Father Kelly.
