This is a beautiful book - the pictures are delightful, but it does not have an essay in it by Barbara Kingsolver. I bought it for a friend because we both love her writing and I'm disappointed to see that there's no work of hers included. Fortunately my friend loves art and I think this will still be a nice gift for her, but it's not what I expected.

Meditations were interesting, but religiously themed.
This book does indeed have a "meditation" for each day, accompanied by a religious referenece, reading or psalm. I was not aware when I ordered the book that it had such a religious foundation.

This book touched my heart.
This book helped me to understand that Alan my son is growing up and I need to give him more space so his spiritual being may grow. He now realises his flower inside him can expand. Thankyou

Comments on the book itself
This book is organized into chapter section each focusing on a step in the process of becoming a homeschooler, and then succeeding at it. The book begins with several sections devoted to justification and support of homeschooling using Catholic tradition and biblical interpretation as well as a section written by a priest advocating such a system. This is followed by sections on the process of setting up a homeschool including the examination of curriculum, the organization of space, managing the household while teaching, and maintaining discipline. There is also a helpful section on incorporating the sacraments and practices related to the liturgical calendar in the lesson plans and another on socialization.

Also contained are sections regarding the legalities of homeschooling, how to repsond to authorities, use of technology in homeschooling, homeschooling in the highschool years, and the future of homeschooling both in terms of the future for an individual who is homeschooled and for the practice itself.

It is true that in this book Dr. Clark is a stong supporter of homeschooling and combined with her socially conservative postions can be intimidating. The book will probably not change the minds of those who are catagorically opposed to homeschooling, but may give those who are "on the fence," if you will, a push in this direction, and will definately provide encouragement to those who currently teach at home. It is also true that Dr. Clark does not make secret the fact that she is the director of Seton Home Study, but she offers room for those who design their own curriculum or use another. In the book, Dr. Clark gives credit where credit is due for the establishment of this school.

For a begining homeschooler this book offers much in the way of process and tips but is best read as each chapter is needed as it can be itimidating to read in order.

A very good book. . .
. . .which was a significant encouragement for our family in our decision to homeschool, although we ultimately chose a different system. In this volume, Dr. Clark gives solid and specific advice about how to begin homeschooling, how to enlist the support of others, how to make one's faith active in homeschooling, etc.

There are also informative sections on single-parent homeschooling, homeschooling disabled children (though I felt that the author of the chapter on disabled children has possibly "bought" too much into the tendency of modern society to label everything a "disability"), and legal aspects of homeschooling.

What cost this book a star is the dated material. The computer information is virtually useless, and even the legal situations have changed significantly around the country. I would be very much in favor of a "revised edition" reflecting these changes.

All in all, though, an extremely helpful book.

Best start to develop a philosophy for your family
This is the first book I recommend to families looking for information on Catholic home education. Dr. Mary Kay Clark, Director of Seton Home Study School, has devoted much of her life to Catholic education to help her family and others. Her zeal and success, chronicled in this book, fills the reader with a confidence which has deep roots. A parent who reads this book will come away with an understanding that homeschooling does not have to be just a stop-gap measure until a "good" Catholic school is found. Catholic homeschooling can become a life for you and your family.

Before embarking on the home education journey, two very important question parents should ask themselves is "Why do we want to home school?" and "How and what do we use to accomplish our goals?" Dr. Clark's book addresses both with the emphasis on the first. Unless each family develops a philosophy and goals, the "how" and "what" will have no direction, possibly leading to burnout.

Reading this meaty book before others will help Catholics form a firm foundation. Be sure to have your own copy in hand with a highlighter!

Don't Waste Your Money!
What a disappointment! After waiting several weeks for the book to arrive, I was dismayed to see that it's written as more of a college thesis than a straight biography, which is what I thought I was getting. I've ordered several books from Amazon.com before and have been very satisfied. But I'm returning this one. I thought this book would be more like "If Loving You Is Wrong" by Gregg M. Olsen, which I enjoyed reading.

An "ok" book
I read the book and it was ok, but not a book I particularly enjoyed. I say this because Mr. Robinson's book is written as a textbook rather than a biography. While Mr. Robinson presented many facts about the Letourneau case using summaries and tables throughout the book, I found it rather tedious. In fact, I have not finished the book because it did not hold my interest.

I did not expect this book to be written as a biography because others who have read it have told me as much. I was still interested enough to purchase the book and draw my own conclusions based on what I have read.

What I liked about 'The Mary Kay Letourneau' book is that Mr. Robinson shows why and how the media was biased against Mary Letourneau from the get go. The officials who handled her case each had agendas of their own. Something else that I found interesting is what the prosecution and media did to cover up facts that would have helped Mary and her case.

I feel that one reason why this book was not that great is because I do not think in a textbook like manner. I prefer biographies where I can relate to someone, feel what that person is or was feeling, and where justice is served.

After I finished reading 'If Loving You Is Wrong' by, Gregg Olsen, I felt as though I knew Mary Letourneau as a person. If Loving You Is Wrong is one of the best books I have ever read. This is a book I was totally engrossed in because my heart went out to Mary and I became sympathetic to her.

Both books: 'The Mary Kay Letourneau Affair' and 'If Loving You Is Wrong' are very different. If you are looking to understand the intricate details of the Letourneau case and how it was mishandled, then this is a fairly good read. If you are looking for an excellent biography written about Mary Kay Letourneau, then recommend reading 'If Loving You Is Wrong'.

Civil Procedure in a Nutshell

No need to buy it.
This book really isn't necessary. I found this book to be too dense or too superficial for what I needed. I bought this during my first semester of law school and thought after perusing it in the bookstore that it could be useful. The reality is that I used it only a couple of times, and have only opened twice since. The book has a ton of information if you have never had civil procedure, but what I have found is that it's not useful on the job and there are much better study aides. I have repeatedly touted the benefit of the Emmanuel, but I want to doublely do so hear. The charts alone makes the Emmanuel far superior, but the presentation also helps as well. I don't think anything was more helpful for any class than the Emmanuel's flow chart for personal jurisdiction. This nutshell also when you're studying just becomes more of the same-old, same-old. In practice, there are better and more respected books like Wright & Miller that prove to be better sources and are respectable enough to site in a brief. In essence, do not buy this unless you haven't been going to class. It is too dense and won't help for exam. In practice, it doesn't have the resources you need. Also, it is very expensive if you are a student, and need exam help.
