Essential for ESL instructors teaching business courses
This book [and separate tape are] essential for ESL/EFL teachers who teach intermediate or advanced communications courses. Each chapter focuses on a business theme such as negotiation, business meetings, telephoning. The tapes are slow for learners above an intermediate level; however, the speaking activities can easily be used by both intermediate and advanced learners. One good aspect of the tapes is the British Accents which makes a nice contrast to my North American accent for learners in EFL situations. You can even stretch certain exercises into writing exercises. However, the book lacks any structured grammar lessons. At an intermediate level in some contexts you might find the book a bit thin because of this. The teachers guide is unfortunately essential because you often can't complete exercises without having the companioned instructions. Which means more of a cost outlay for some teachers. This book absolutely cannot be used for self-study or one-on-ones. Nevertheless, it is the best resource I've had for these types of courses so far. Definitely worth investing in.

New International Business English
I have found this workbook extremely helpful in instructing business English to the many foreign professional students I receive. For the intermediate English speaker it is helpful in teaching them the basic communication that they need as they communicate around the world with colleagues. The book makes my instructing easy and covers all the basics I need to convey the language to them. I use the book with all my International professional businessmen .

An impressively scoped, consistently good read.
The readership of fantasy has been said to be predominantly feminine (as opposed to the predominantly masculine readership of science fiction), so it is perhaps not much of a surprise that one of the best collections of fantasy writing would be one dedicated solely to the work of women authors. If one were looking for non-patriachal, original, stimulating fantasy generally uncluttered by the cliches of the genre one could do worse than one of the most important collections to come out of the field in the last few decades. The range of the book, which also traverses science-fictionesque territory, is impressive, from straightforward space opera (The Ship Who Sang, by Anne McCaffrey; the short story that birthed the famous novel of the same name), to revisionist visions of classic fairy tales (Red as Blood; a revisionist Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs story with a distinctly Stokerian--re: Vampiric--twist). Classy packaging and a beautiful cover illustation (Baby Giant) complete a pleasant reading experience. The Penguin Book of Modern Fantasy by Women is a welcome mainstay on the bookshelf of essential science-fiction and fantasy writing.

Junie B. Jones Big Fat Mouth
Morgan Turner

The best book!!!!

The best book that I have read is Junie B. Jones Big Fat Mouth by Barabara Park. Junie B. Jones has many fantastic books, but I like this one the best. I like this book because if you are down about something you can pick up a Junie book and you will be laughing your head off. For example at the first of the year, I was nervous and down because I was afraid that I would not get to class on time .So when I got to class I picked up this book and started to laugh. It made the rest of my day so much better. Another reason is that it is career day at Junie's school. Well Junie wants to be something and she yells it on the bus but then she wants to be another thing but then another, finally a boy on the bus says "be all three," but he says it in a mean way.On career day Junie shows up at school as a .............sorry you have to read it to find out. The last reason is that I don't like to read much, but since I have read this book I enjoy the series.
Have fun reading Junie B. Jones Big Fat Mouth!!!!

A review by an 8 year old girl
It is a very funny book about a girl named Junie Beatrice Jones except she just likes B. and that's all. She has trouble controlling her temper and excitement. Sometimes she yells out "YOU'RE A DUMB BUNNY!" and she calls her teacher "Mrs."...she has another name too but Junie B. just likes Mrs. and that's all. One day Mrs. said, "Boys and girls, please take your seats. I've got a wonderful surprise!" "IS IT JELLY DOUGHNUTS?" Mrs. put her finger to her lips and that means be quiet. "YEAH ONLY GUESS WHAT? JELLY DOUGHNUTS ARE MY MOST FAVORITE EXCEPT I ALSO LIKE OTHER KINDS!" After that, my mouth got very drooly and some drool fell on the table. I wiped it up with my sweater sleeve. Just then there was a knock at the door. Mrs. hurried to open it. "HEY, IT'S A..." to find out who it was...read the book! You didn't expect ME to tell you!

I like Junie B. -- BUT . . .
Like the other Junie B. Jones books, this one was easy to read and funny. However, I really didn't like the extended discussion about whether Mickey Mouse (etc.) is real -- my 6-year-old reader didn't need to find that out from a book!

Brothers 'Til Death: The Civil War Letters of William, Thomas, and Maggie Jones, 1861-1865

Disappointing
Though there are several good letters contained in this book, most are average at best. Trimble does not do a very good job as editor. The introduction and conclusion are poor--they contain very little information on the authors of the letters, and what information is provided is not presented well. Would also like to have seen the editor do a better job placing the letters in the greater context of the war.

Enthusiastically recommended reading for all Civil War buffs
William and Thomas Jones were Irish brothers who, with their sister Maggie, immigrated to the United States. Maggie was a schoolteacher in West Farms, New Jersey. William and Thomas served in the 48th New York Volunteer Regiment and saw front-line combat during the American Civil War. Brothers 'til Death is a collection of their letters, memoirs, and diary entries that provide today's reader with first-hand information on what they say and did, from the home front to the front lines. Their letters also present an immigrant's perspective on the conflict. Also included are letters from friends of the Jones siblings, thereby adding additional voices and views to the Irish-accented conversation about the war. Of special interest to Civil War historians are detailed aspects of the coastal campaign of the Carolinas and Georgia, including the assaults on Forts Pulaski, Fisher, and Wagner. Brothers 'til Death is enthusiastically recommended reading for all Civil War buffs and an outstanding contribution to academic and public library Civil War collections.

Ordinary People-- Extraordinarily and Intimately Insightful
I closed the final chapter longing for more and feeling as though my friendships had been severed without saying good-bye... What a fine collection of letters to impose such feelings... Not only do we have the opportunity to learn more about this complicated era through their personal accounts, but we get the added dimension of their emotions through the beautifully expressive writing. John Fogarty's soulful poem written during the summer of 1864 underscores the tremendous eloquence of these "ordinary" people... Having had the privilege of reading some of Ellis Spear's journal entries as he set off with the 20th Maine, I can affirm the dedication of this teacher to his students and the labor of love the coordination of this project was. We are fortunate to reap what Richard Trimble has sown...

Borring no imagination
Skip this one, you'll fall asleep. Most of the stories are borring, even though there are a couple of exceptions.

Exciting, well-selected, thought-provoking, enjoyable.
I received this book as a gift from my non-cyber-savvy brother, and immediately assumed that it was going to be a silly, sensationalist, overwrought work of pornography. I was delighted to find I was wrong. It turned out to include some extraordinarily thoughtful fiction, several pieces of which were quite appropriately anti-cyber and humanistic. The selection are excellent, wide-ranging, often a *lot* of fun, and have provoked not only the expected lower arousal but also an unexpected and pleasing arousal of a more intellectual nature. I recommend this book.

My story "Bots" is in this book.
I am delighted this nifty antho is doingso well. My story, "Bots," is included, and is *the first, the very first* fiction ever puiblished about IRC -- originally in 1995 in a small press mag, PUCK, and now angthologized all over. Hey, if you're reading this, check out my other books here at amazon.com! Buy em!

Not Wyld enough?
"Book of the Wyld" left me with mixed feelings. The book did contain some interesting and useful information; all the new rules would add just the right amount of flavor to any Werewolf story. Unfortunately, this book left me wanting for more; I don't think it was as good as the two previous books about the Wyrm and the Weaver. "Book of the Wyld" could have definitely use some more work, but I think it is worth having in the end if you want add more the Wyld element to your stories.

The Third Member of the Triad Exposed.
" and the Wild was off picking it's toes or something." This the general stereo type I held of The Wyld. Yes it's the fountain of creation, but it had not been given the personification that the other members of the triad had.

Well no more.

The down side of this book: It tries to explain the unexplainable.

The Up Side: It gives insight to what is often the most misunderstood element of the WereWolf game. The book has a good selection of Wyld Fetishes and a couple (2) Rites that can work as good background material. The selection of Wyld spirts is good (20 pages worth, and the Gorgans), and can act as excelent additions to any game (be forwarned some are reprints though). It also incluedes a section on The Storm Eater, if any one was wondering more about it, you'll find some answers. The addition of "thresholds" is also something new to me.

And finaly the warning "The Wild is a doble Edged Sword." Under this topic there is a good section explaining the chaos that is The Wyld. As well as an discusion on insainity (The freind of Chaos) and how close association wiht the Wyld can lead your characters to the depths of madness, and how to deal with it as a storyteller, and player.

All in all a good addition to the White Wolf line-up.

Contemporary College Physics

This is an answer book only! This is not the textbook!
This book is advertised as something it is not. Do not order this book if you want the textbook! This book offers answers to the questions in the text ONLY!

a great book for those new to physics
As a college student, I always hoped for easy-to-understand textbooks every semester. This book met my expectations! It is taught from a non-calculus point of view...but those of us that know calculus will know how to deal with the myriad of equations that you encounter in physics.

Jones and Childers have put a great textbook together. The chapters are very easy to understand--concepts are explained thoroughly, and then supplemented with examples that are solved step by step and the results are discussed. The figures are drawn well--even things like relativity and quantum mechanics make more sense after reading this book!

To summarize--if this is the textbook for your class, you are in luck. Buy it...if you are interested in physics at all, you will enjoy the book. If you are looking for a book to help learn concepts in physics, and want a textbook, this one is for you too! Compared to all the other textbooks out there, this is one of the top two (Serway's book being the other).

A Contemporary Review of "Contemporary College Physics"
This book is very well written, due to the choices of sentences and words. The sentences are to the point and not like MANY physics books who dance around the topic. In addition to having carefully chosen examples that illustrates its point clearly.
The book also has nice illustrations printed on nice paper, unlike other EXPENSIVE books printed on "cheap" paper. The book includes all the topics other books would cover in two volumes and hence would cost significantly more. I highly recommend this text for anyone (including poor students like me)!! ;)
