This is a great book for young readers.
Herbie Jones is an awesome book. Herbie Jones is about a kid and how he is. He is brave because he snuck off and got a hamburger. Herbie is funny because he is trying to get on honor roll. At the beginning he got a 100 on his spelling test. Raymond bought Mrs. Pinkham a purple magic marker because he likes her as a teacher. At the end of the book Herbie's sister killed his pet spiders because she was cleaning the house. Herbie's mom got a new job. You should try reading this book.

Great book!
In the same genre as Junie B. Jones, this book is easy to read and funny. My third grader, who has a learning disability, liked it, and we have found very few books that he likes. Example: the boys in the book think that RSVP means "remove shoes very promptly," so they wonder why they're the only two who took their shoes off at a birthday party. Because it's a clever book, I don't mind listening while my son reads it aloud to me.

lambs to the slaughter
Lambs to the slaughter is a very interesting book and has exellent litreture in it.It is a good horror story and I would defiently recommend it to someone who likes horror storys.

The chilling truth...
This is a very frightening book. What makes it even scarier is that it's true. But, before you read this book, first read or see "Silence of the Lambs." That's what makes this book.

Gripping memoirs of the Cultural Revolution
In this compilation of stories, readers will learn about the horrors that many children in China had to live through. All of the stories are told by Chinese who were children or adolescents during the peak of the Cultural Revolution. Many were torn from their parents, some never forgot or forgave the pain that Chairman Mao's reforms put them through. This book is an intensely emotional window into China. Though some stories are disturbing, it is an important book to read if you want to know where the Chinese people are coming from. The experiences they had in the 60's and 70's have shaped who they are today, both individually and as a nation.

well written and poetic
This is a collection of interviews with people who were children during the Cultural Revolution. The author writes in English and translates the narratives herself, which gives the book a poetic unity, made even more enjoyable by the fact that she writes well. Unlike Feng Jicai's Ten Years of Madness, Chihua Wen's own writing is evocative, complementary, unintrusive, and poetic. The narratives aren't as diverse as Feng's, but the writing here is better.

Good book, excellent story!
More than the contents of the book itself, this work is a testament to the human spirit. Mr. Jones was able to change his life in a number of ways, and brought his lessons out to share with others. I had the opportunity to meet Mr. Jones, and he is truly a phenomenal man. I applaud him...and the book is great too! :)

A comprehensive guide that can save your family from ruin.
This book was designed in a unique fashion, written from prison. I, Richard O.Jones, the author, was a convict in two California State Prisons from 1988 thru 1990. My conviction was 'major welfare fraud.' The life I led prior to being sent to prison had been one of a career criminal. At 41-years-old, I had been a criminal for over twenty-five years. LIVED WELL AND NEVER HAD A LEGITIMATE JOB! All my friends and associates were hustlers, thieves, robbers, raptists, and other 'Boys from the Hood'. This was my fifth felony conviction, but first prison sentence. Actually the sentence brought relief. I had grown tired and ashame of my life of crime. Especially in the light of my single parenthood. In prison, I decided change my life. I accepted Jesus Christ was my Lord and Savior. I also asked the Lord to tell me how I could change my career after a quarter of a century. The Holy Spirit led me to The Holy Bible - scripture Eph. 4:28, which reads: 'Let him that stole steal no more: but rather let him labour, working with his hands the thing which is good, that he may have to give to him that needeth." At this point, it became clear to me that I should write a book on crime prevention. Crime was the only work I had experience. I was in the perfect place! As the weeks & months passed, I solicited crime tips from my fellow convicts. They shared the secrets of their evils. None were much bumbling crooks that they got arrested everytime they violated the law. Ninty-five percent of their crimes were never solved. This book tells the readers how scams, con games, and rip-offs are planned and executed. Robbery, a crime that is often done at random by amature crooks. These crimes are unavoidable, however, rather or not the victims walks away with their life is often in the hands of the victim. You can actually control the situation, in some cases. This book improves your chances. Also tips are given how you can greatly reduce the likelihood of becoming a victim in the first place. The book informs the reader of over three dozen types scams, con games, and violent crimes, and how you can reduce your risk of them. Many readers have contacted me and told of stories of the real life benefits my book as provided. In some cases, the book have saved lives, and great financial loss.

The book is stimulating!
This is a MUST READ BOOK FOR MEN AND WOMEN OF ALL ORIGINS, because everyone FALL SHORT. People may choose to make this a Black man's issue, but it wasn't to me. Unfortunately, many families are dysfunctional today - Black, White, Hispanic or Whatever the Ethnic background because of the heavy burdens a single parent is confronted with. "When Mama's Gone" offer encouragement and inspiration despite the harsh reality of uncontrollable circumstances, while showing 'HOW' one can choose to control their circumstances and overcome the odds.

powerful story of single fatherhood, crime & redemption
When Mama's Gone is a heartfelt account of a man who breaks the cycle of irresposility, neglect and abuse inherent in many poor African American communities. Richard O. Jones had poor male role models and a very harsh upbringing, and eventually became a poor role model himself. He is quite an unsympathetic figure before his 'reformation' (insensitive, sexist, self-infatuated), but very intelligent and creative in findings ways to make a living 'on the wrong side of the law.' His many years of cheating catch up with him and he ends up spending some time in prison, while his daughters have to be farmed out amongst relatives. Later, with the right guidance and support from his daughters and some church members, his innate intelligence and spirit of initiative helps him to literally reinvent himself to care for his daughters and become a positive role model for his four daughters.

I enjoyed this book because it shows a different side of African American men as single fathers. It also give hope to men with prison records that they too can become a productive member of society.

Very clear instruction on international trade and finance
I found this book to be a very good learning tool, as the course reader for an introductory international economics course. I find that most textbooks are good as reference, not as learning tools, but this book is an exception. In a very concise manner, it builds theory upon theory of international trade, until the student has developed a strong set of analysis tools. The portion on international finance is good intro as well, even though it does not compare with more specialized texts. This text is sufficient to prepare the reader for any advanced trade issues, with the exception of more mathematically based arguments (which the book does not develop, given its focus on beginners).

Thought provoking, intelligent textbook
This textbook for International Economics is a rarity. It's intelligent, exceptionally well written by the experts in the field. It does include a thorough review of the state-of-the-art theory of international trade and finance. To facilitate learning and yet challenge the reader, the authors equipped each chapter with really tough exercises. Only having solved them one might have an impression that he grasped the metarial really well. Good exercises are an indispensable companion of a student. Here we have one of the best I have ever seen. And I have seen a lot. Superior to other textbooks and highly recommended.

Animal Sounds
This is my 18 month old son's FAVORITE book! His grandfather read it to him for the first time a few monthes ago and he LOVED it...we've gone through two copies already (they've been worn out by pure love). He knows the name and sound of each animal and it now keeps him busy on his own for hours, it was truly the book that made him love reading!

Very Good!
THis book is perfect for young children. All of the folk tales are wonderful, including the one about how the crane came to be. All of the children at the daycare loved it, especially about the wise man and how he grew the beard. Great folk tales. A good book for kids 2-5!

Very Well Done
Very well written. Starts a little slow with much preliminary
but fascinating information about the international politics
leading up to the war. After that starts a day by day account of the war and most major battles. I especially liked the many
behind the scenes personal interviews with pilots, Iraqi officers, tank commanders, etc. about their experiences,
Many " stories never told" . It was riveting. Very well researched, unbiased & hard to put down.

A BOOK THAT WAS MY INSPIRATION
As were all of Tristan Jones' books, this book too was an inspiration that gave me the fortitude to continue building my own boat and then to sail the south Pacific and Asian waters. I paid tribute to Tristan by devoting a chapter to him in my book "At Home In Asia," and I wrote about him again in my last book "The Last Voyage: the Story of Schooner Third Sea." I was fortunate to have known Tristan and I think of him often. He was an incredible man. Tristan did add a comment to my last book when he heard of my own person loss before he died.
