An incredible book about an incredible flight.It is difficult to know which is the more interesting -- the historical part of the book about the original Smith brothers flight, or Peter McMillan's account of his modern day recreation of the same flight.As an aviation buff I loved the detail of how the airplane was built (using the original plans) and tested and then the day-by-day chronicle of the flight. The chapter about the crash in Indonesia (by uncanny coincidence in virtually the same place as the Smith brothers 75 years before) is a great read. Highly recommended.

I read these stories many years ago and was thrilled to see how well they hold up. The study guide by Prof. Judith Everson makes me want to teach these stories to my graduate students. I'm particularly fond of the childhood stories, which seem so perceptive and sincere and harsh at the same time. It's nice also to see the development of the writer over a ten-year period, from his early years after he got out of the Army, to his later stories, after the publication of FROM HERE TO ETERNITY.

This is a fabulous book that truly depicts the down home feel of Indiana. As a life-long resident, I am able to reflect on the many places I have visited throughout the years. The photography was beautiful and made me proud of my midwest heritage. I first purchased this book for my daughter to take to her host family in Germany and have now purchased it for myself and for gifts.

My motivation for buying this book came from my extensive experience with material maintenance management during my 22 year career in the navy, and subsequent experience with integrated logistics in Department of Defense contracting. I used the first edition of this book as a reference when I was on a proposal team for a DoD contract, and found it to be one of the best references available because it distilled tens of thousands of pages of directives, instructions and related material into less than 500 pages. It covered the topic in sufficient detail as to serve as an authoritative reference as well as to get other members of the team up-to-speed in ILS.

During subsequent consulting engagements for commercial clients I used many of the concepts and methods detailed in this book to outline requirements for automated materials and maintenance management systems. In particular, any commercial business domain, such as refinery maintenance or maintenance data collection and analysis are candidates for applying parts of ILS to commercial uses. This book then becomes more valuable to a wider audience than DoD contractors.

A second use for the concepts is the structured and proven approach to an encompassing systems maintenance management initiative within IT. For example, the use of logistics support analysis is a sound approach to planning enterprise-wide maintenance from a cost management perspective. Moreover, using a modified (and shortened) form of logistics support analysis records is a good foundation for enterprise asset management, as well as developing a reliability baseline.

While this book has obvious value to readers from the DoD contracting community, it also contains information that can be tailored to commercial uses.

This book is among the first to finally piece together a coherent path in Kerouac studies. Jones's book thoroughly delves into Kerouac's Proustian-like epic approach to the Duluoz legend. It is so refreshing to emerge with fresh ideas apropos Kerouac's technique verses the over zealous biographers and cultural blow-hards who pipe in regularly on the Beats. Much of Kerouac's real life had little to do with Beat ethos, and much more with that of the writer. What the author provides is much more than a run-down of the authobiographical mystique that Kerouac injected into his work, but moreso, the complexity of a narrative that turned American literature on its end. This book deserves much more attention and suffices itself as the most import and vital accomplishment in Kerouac studies to date. It will far outlive much of what has been written about one of America''s most misunderstood novelists.

Look Homeward, written by my father, is trully the life he lived. His life, centered on Christ, wasn't always perfect, but was always full of love and compassion for others. The book, based primarily in Sinop, Turkey, entails Dad's fond memories of trying to let himself be used by Christ in any situation that presented itself. As a young soldier, this was in building a chapel in a remote foreign country, untouched by Christianity. I just hope that someday, I can write the story of my life as influenced by James M. Boyte, Sr.

Also included on this keepsake audio are seven of Ms. Hansberry's speeches and interviews recorded between 1959 and 1964. It is thrilling to hear her voice.

Regrettably this gifted playwright and author died of cancer at the young age of 34. Her pen was stilled but her words are as relevant and moving today as when they were written.

This book, and indeed the entire series, has been very important to my life. The story is excellent in every way and it is sad that such a book has gone out of print.
