A great book for kids
This is a fantastic book for kids to learn how to cook beyond opening a can of spahgetti. It doesn't make things cutesy, because kids want to eat real food. Not tacos decorated to look like sharks. These are really kid tested and make cooking fun.

A Great Role Model: Jackie Robinson
The Value of Courage is my favorite book from the Value Collection. Each book focuses on a unique value that a particular person in history possessed and exemplified by his lifetime acheivements. Jackie Robinson showed courage by withstanding and overcoming all the obstacles in his struggle to become a the first black professional baseball player. Because the books are written for children, the characters are each given a fictional "friend" that helps guide and encourage the main character to continue to show his value (courage, love, patience, etc.) in order to achieve what they set out to achieve. Other books in this series that are also excellent choices are: The Value of Patience (The Wright Brothers)& The Value of Believing in yourself (Louise Pasteur).

Who Cut The Cheese? - An A-Mazing Parody about Change (and How We Can Get Our Hands on Yours)

Behold, the Odor of Cheese!
This is a funny little book with punny little sayings scattered throughout, drawn on the wall of the maze by the misfunctional little people , with "soft charcoal," that we can all figure is something else. It is a great parody of the original "Who Moved My Cheese" and is funny, even if you never read the original, sainted tome of anti-whiners. Just the title will get a snicker if you accidentally bring to a motivational meeting.

Cheesy? No. A truer (than the original) tale of the rat race
For those out there who have felt forced, or coerced by management, to have to read the book, "Who moved my cheese", you will immediately see the immense humor of this parody by Jarlsberg. Sadly, you will also see the truth. In page layout, writing style and book size, "Who Cut the Cheese" is an incredibly funny, yet all too true, twisted retelling of the small, best-selling management book.

Do not feel that you have to read "Who Moved My Cheese" in order to appreciate the humor of this book. It stands alone...and is a much better read, frankly. And if you must waste money on yet another business management book, why not have some fun with it? Change IS good after all!

One can only wonder if the sole purpose behind reading the other book, "Who moved my cheese" is just to make long-time, loyal employees pack their bags and leave their companies in search of real cheese elsewhere...and some respect. To seek out employment in a place where the people you work for might appreciate the fact that you do indeed have a brain. Because there is nothing in that book that most employees don't already know about managing change.

Jarlsberg's book, however, cleverly uncovers what's really going on in workplaces today. He shows how employees find their own unique, if not sometimes underhanded or downright evil, ways of coping with change, and that change can be good. And the authors didn't even pay me a dime to say all that, although they are laughing their way to the bank, I'd imagine. So, too, are the authors of that other cheese book...I think, buying this one instead, is money better spent.

Caution! You Could Hurt Yourself Laughing!
I'm a big fan of office humor books (Dilbert is my patron saint) but nothing I've read until now prepared me for the relentless flurry of hilarious jokes in Dr. Jarlsberg's "Who Cut the Cheese?" If you're eating, you'll choke. If you're drinking coffee, you'll shoot it out your nose. If you're wearing good clothes, you'll wet yourself. If you're reading the book in church, you'll go to Hell. It's THAT funny! I experienced real pain at being forced to read the original (and distinctly UN-funny) "Who Moved My Cheese?" at work. Now I'm glad I did, if only to enhance my appreciation of this little hand grenade of a parody. I'm buying a handful to give as office gifts for the holidays (okay, so I'm cheap). Hint - there are jokes hidden everywhere in this book, so don't overlook the fine print. On the copyright page, in microtype, it says "printed on acid free paper because the stuff with acid burned our fingers." Hey, you've GOT to love a book like this!

The One Minutes.
While searching for some books in Ordu Bazar (books Market) inKarachi, the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, during a recent visit tothat country, I found a Bundle of books Titled a One Minute Teacher,One Minute Manager, One minute Sales Person,One minute Father and OneMinute Mother. At the beginning I bought only one coppy of One MinuteTeacher not with the Intention to read it myself ,but to dump it on mystudent daughter to read.Travelling on a bus to my daughter's collegefor three hours wanted to pass time by looking casualy through thisbook.Immediatly it has atracted my attention by its valuable methodand clear appraoch. On my way back from my journey, Irushed to thesame market and bought four coppies of each book .They were publishedby William Morrow in New York... These books have given me a newapproach to people.

Believing in yourself
The One Minute Teacher tells you directly that the lessons of life are within you. What this book does is bring out the hidden self and organize the hidden self to becoming a better student. The three ideas of 1) Setting one minute goals 2) Giving one minute praisings 3) Using one minute recoveries are good karma for the soul. To take the idea of setting a goal and praising the accomplished goal is common knowledge. The idea of setting little goals and acknowledging them are the real substance of this book. Also, if you stray away from the goal the idea is to see the fault and get back to accomplishing the goal. For instance a minimal goal for a child could be to listen for 10 extra minutes in class. The child completes the goal and praises this effort. This fine tuning of his listening skills should help him achieve a higher grade in class. Also by increasing his listening ability this should help him in life. I recommend this book to be a part of the curriculum in high school and college. I further see the lessons from this book taught in churches, business etc.

A survival guide and reminder
This tiny volume is a collection of short takes on nurturing the independent learner. It is a wonderful gift for the beginning teacher who is too frequently overwhelmed by all there is to do in becoming the competent teacher he/she wants to be. The short pieces cut through the fluff of what we remember or imagine teachers doing when we were students ourselves and give concise, no-nonsense suggestions for making teaching as manageable as it is noble. I originally bought this for my niece with good intentions, and wound up getting another copy for myself. A veteran teacher, I still find the reminders refreshing.

Learning to live in the present, Sweet and Simple
This is another of Spencer Johnson's simple but very appealing parables about life. Spencer also wrote the wonderful "Who Moved My Cheese." The Precious Present is a very inspiring book about how to have more happiness in your life by living in the present moment. It is told as a story told to a child by a wise old man. And only through the course of life does the child, as they grow older and become an adult, realize the simple wisdom that the wise old man shared at the beginning of the book.

By its very simplicity as a parable, it embodies the simplicity of its message, just to live in the present moment of now. If you live in either the past or the future, you will lose your real self. By living in the present you will be at the source of happiness and fulfillment. There are many simple phrases that stayed with me after reading the book. I loved the feeling and essence of this book."The precious present is not something that someone gives you. It is something that you give to yourself." I highly recommend this book to everyone. I like to read it over and over again. It calms me down and makes me feel how precious life is. It helps bring me into the now.

Another book that I highly recommend as a guide about how to live in the present is a book called "WORKING ON YOURSELF DOESN'T WORK: A Book about Instantaneous Transformation" by Ariel and Shya Kane. It is full of stories and parables, as well as principles and ideas, that have also allowed me to be more in the present, and to live my life to its fullest.

Life simplifying and life changing book
This book is wonderful. It has a very simple and moving message. If you manage a work group or team of people, please read them this book. It is especially beneficial for a group of young people. Every year, I read it to a group of high school boys basketball players and the room is silent as I read. That's impact!

The Precious Present
This book is so simple and quick to read. It is a small bit of inspiration but can really be taken to heart. A great reminder for all who read it that life can be too short. Enjoy what you have been given. I have given it as a gift to many people over the last 20 years and now my daughter continues that tradition!! She appreciates it, also, for exactly what it is.

The right audience
At last, "Who Moved My Cheese?" has found its target audience--children.

It is a simple parable that illustrates the natural tendency to resist change. The uncertainty that generally accompanies change provides a level of discomfort that some try to escape. Rather than take the necessary steps for change, some people cling to old notions and actions that produce little or no results.

These are good concepts to learn at an early age, as long as it is undertood that reducing such a simple little concept into practice is the hard part. Knowing that we need to "search around the maze for new cheese" doesn't help much, without guidelines for determining when we are "moving around the maze" or simply "sitting at the cheese station."

Hopefully, parents can provide some insight where the book doesn't.

About dealing with change and brand new opportunities
Impressively enhanced with the cartoon style artwork of Steve Pileggi, Who Moved My Cheese? For Kids is a thoroughly entertaining story by Spencer Johnson about dealing with change and brand new opportunities. Four little friends who live in a maze live off of seemingly never-ending magical cheese; one morning the cheese is gone and the four must work together to explore, search, and help each other cope in this involving tale.

Many Will Find Help Here with Decision-Making
Johnson offers a very helpful book in this volume. He presents a simple guide for decision-making, one that will undoubtedly enhance the process for many persons. He essentially describes a two-step decision procedure, examining one's thinking on a given issue, then examining one's feelings on the same subject.

While not as good as the One-Minute Manager classic and its accompanying volumes, this work likely will help those persons seeking to bolster their decision-making abilities.

Better results and wiser decisions
Being a person who can never make up their mind, I decided it wouldn't hurt to read a book about better decision making. I enjoyed reading this book because it told a story about a man who used a 'Yes' or 'No' system to make better decisions. This made it easier to understand and apply the system to your own problems. In the story the man talks to many people who have used the system sucessfully. They give him lots of examples on how to arrive at better decisions. The 'Yes' or 'No' system is broken down into two main questions to ask yourself when making decisions. One is a practical question and the other is a private question. This allows you to use the system while making personal decisions or buisness decisions. Every day we are all faced with decisions, big and small. I have realized, from reading this book, that I seem to not think my decisions through as well as I should. I am sure that many other people share similar problems. This book acknowledges what we may not want to admit to ourselves. That many of us are knowingly making poor decisions, but we do not have the time or effort to turn them into better decisions. Reading this book may sound like a life saver to some people, but of course not everyone is going to walk away with better decision making skills. Like everything else in life, it will take time and patience to improve your decision making. But for those of you who would like to, this book could start you off on your way to turning poor decisions into better ones.

Changed the way I make decisions.
I knew there was something missing in the way I was making decisions in my life. Although, I thought, I was making good decisions I really wasn't. After reading this book I have learned how to make "better decision." Dr. Johnson writes in story form the message that's easy to understand and adapt. This is a book that should be read and reread by everyone from adolescence on.

The One Minute Manager
I have pushed myself through countless management books in various U.S. Navy leadership and civilian management courses. One Minute Manager was a required textbook for a college communication course. I initially thought that the little book with the big print would be a waste of time. I previewed it in a bookstore over coffee and nearly finished it before the coffee. It reads incredibly quick and unfolds a strategy so simple and straightforward that the reader wonders why anyone would behave any differently. I wanted to go back in time and slip it into half a dozen bosses' in boxes. Not since Strunk and White's "Element's of Style" have I encountered such concise, natural-feeling instruction on things we use everyday. This isn't just big business either - I'm seeing improvements with my four and five year old boys as well. The look of accomplishment on their faces tells me that these ideas can work anywhere! Required: a leader, communication, confidence, pride and praise.

Powerful Simplicity
I was a little disappointed when 'The One Minute Manager' arrived in the mail and I saw its small size and large fonts. However, this tiny little fairy-tale is the best management book I've read. I strongly recommend this book for managers in all fields, including professors in academia. 'The One Minute Manager' takes less than an hour to read, and if you have any interest in becoming a better manager or a stronger leader, surely you can risk 60 minutes of your time? The ideas are not contrived, artificial mechanisms that interfere with our natural personalities. Instead, the entire strategy can be implemented by following a few simple rules that feel natural and are easy to perform and maintain. Sound too good to be true? Just try it!

A word of caution though, use of the strategy assumes the individuals on the manager's team are intelligent, and the tools presented are designed to encourage subordinates to become more independent and responsible, not reliant on a manager's approval, input or direction on minor decisions. Any manager who wants to be involved in all aspects of a project couldn't possibly use the strategies of 'The One Minute Manager' without driving his team nuts.

The One minute Manager
A measurement of a good leader is ability to develop other leaders, not followers. In today's world, many new supervisors are thrust into a "baptism by fire" management environment. I found this book to be an easy to read guide that arms newcomers to management with the basic tools for building worker relationships and getting the best out of their staffs. As a result, their efforts are guided into decisions that generate increasingly positive outcomes in uncomfortable situations. Self confidence builds and leadership/management styles improve.

I have made it a habit during my welcome interviews to provide each new management employee with a copy of "The One Minute Manager". We all enjoy the benefits!
