One of the best pasta cook books ever written
Loukie has written an excellent cook book giving insight into the origins and shape of Italian pasta, and the best ways to cook it. She matches pasta sauces with the style of pasta for which they are most appropriate. Her use of easily obtainable fresh ingredients makes this a practical book. The recipes are simple and straight-forward, and exceptionally tasty. Recipes range from the traditional bolgonase and pesto, through to no cook sauces and oven baked dishes. There are recipes for every occasions, and they all taste great. If you love Italian pasta, and want no-fuss cooking, this is the book you must have.

Who's Who in Shakespeare (Routledge Who's Who Series)

Informative, but not complete
I wet my pants in anticipation for this book. I never could understand Shakespeare, until now. This book revived my intrest and kept me busy for days. The only problem I found with this treasure of literary reference was it's lack of entries for Macmorris from "Henry V" and Jaques De Boys from "As You Like It". Other than that, I say that this book is for anyone who is beaten over the head by Shakespeare's works.

Mediterranean The Beautiful Cookbook
I have never received this book because you cancelled my order. Although, I really would like the book, it is impossible for me to order again. Your computer tells me that I have odered it already and will not exept any additional orders for this item. I gave the 1 star rating because otherwise the computer will not send this message.
If you have this book again, please send me one; I am still interested.

Attractive
This large format softcover book has beautiful pictures of various locations in the Mediterranean, as well as great pictures of almost every dish for which there is a recipe. The recipes are easy to follow, measurements in English and metric, with a helpful notation about the recipe at the start of each one. More importantly, they are useful dishes that you can acutally cook, not one of those books with 20 different ways to cook octopus. Where a particular local indgrediant is probably not available stateside, a creditable alternative is given. The book looks tasty to the eye, and the recipes are tasty as well. I am particularly fond of Turkish food and this cuisine is well represented, just as the other Mediterranean countires are.

Wonderful, interesting, healthy food !!!
I loved this book, but it was one of many that was damaged in the floods of 1998. Many of the dishes were very easy to make too. I've been waiting for a reprint since !

When Anger Hurts: Quieting the Storm Within

Long-haul read, but very effective for me.
I picked up the book in a library, and have been looking for a copy to own ever since. The book painstakingly talks you through the argument that anger is not in itself bad, but that anger is a response which at some level is a choice.

The chapters take you through the process of identifying the patterns of thoughts which trigger anger, such as blaming, globalisation (making a mountain out of a molehill) etc. Once these triggers have been identified, the book offers a number of strategies to cope with them.

The book emphasises that by controlling your response to the trigger thoughts you can choose not to be angry. It's hard work, and no quick-fix, but I found it more helpful than anything else I've tried.

As a bit of background, I am a happly married family man with two kids, but I found I had this bullying side to my nature which was out of all proportion to the stimuli received. It's still there, but the techniques in the book kind of slow down and separate the stages of becoming angry in this way, and so have given me a chance to choose a different way of coping with the stimuli.

Anyway, it's a book I would recommend.

Facing Anger
"When Anger Hurts" is an excellent book. I had mistakenly believed that to hold in anger was bad for your health both physically and psychologically. Although I never got angry with my casual friends, my "loved ones" were not spared. I realized something wasn't right about the way I was expressing my anger. This book was an excellent source of information for me. It made me look at how anger is good if we use it to propel us to positive action. If you read this book, you will gain tremendous insight on what triggers anger. It will amaze you! This knowledge alone will help you to use your anger more effectively and appropriately. We need not make our lives painful. Holding onto anger and blaming only make our lives less joyous. This book will help you live a life that is more fulfilling. It will at least give you a wonderful start.

This book on anger really works!
Curtis.Neimeister@hpinc.com from Tulsa, OK., USA Nov. 5, 1999 I consider this to be an excellent book on the subject of anger! Why? Because it helped me!

I read the reviews of this book on Amazon, and I am pleased to say I am one of the extremists. I thought it was well written and direct, not clouded with excessive rhetoric or "powdered sugar". It places the responsibility for anger right where it can be fixed, on me. It does not involve itself with painstaking research into the "Why" of anger, although that may come out through the use of the Anger Journal. It does contain many suggested causal areas, and my mind was quick to point out my guilty participation. I have gone from multiple angry outbursts per day to one or so mild angry responses per week in less than two weeks. Learning about "Shoulds" and "Blamers" can do that! And was I surprised to learn that I was contributing to my cholesterol problem by being angry! Anger was killing me!

It is behavioral in nature, and for those looking for, and brave enough to use, a path to correcting anger as a response to problems, this is your book! I strongly recommend it!

Logical errors run rampant throughout this book. Definitely stay away from it.

Howard's Review
If you have just one week to study, and plan to spend less than $30. This book with ETS Official Guide is what I recommend you to get. Cliff Notes gives a brief review, give you one diagnostic test. If you have $100 budget and months to study for the test, this book would like be as helpful as other books. However, If you only have one week and just want to have a brief prep, this is a must have.

This book deserves a better sales ranking position!
It's worthy every cent you invest on it. Despite the fact that it's not as fashionable as some others like Kaplan, Princeton, etc. Cliffs does a very serious job, covering all GMAT subjects and providing many good questions with explanations.

Galveston that was
I expected to see pictures of Galveston as it was . This is a bunch of pictures of Galveston decayed.

Beautiful photos; fascinating history
The city of Galveston, Texas was a vibrant, prosperous port at the start of the 20th century, outstripping even New Orleans. Fine Victorian homes were built by prosperous merchants, many in grand style. The deadly hurricane of 1900 dealt the city a blow from which it never entirely recovered. But Galveston's economic slump had a silver lining -- as shown in "The Galveston That Was." There was no economic incentive to tear the old homes down; so scores of these remarkable Victorian homes survived, though many fell into disrepair. Howard Barnstone secured two superb photographers and wrote text for this beautiful book, which displays the faded glory of Galveston's Victorian architecture. The book's first edition inspired Galvestonians to restore many of these homes, and sparked a preservation revival there that lasts to this day. Always a beach destination, Galveston now draws visitors to the Texas coast for beautifully restored Victorian homes and historic business district, the Strand. The book's photographs are simply beautiful and the concise history of Galveston is intriguing.

searching for robert
It is to bad that someone so capable of telling a good tale could take a dive with such vivid subject matter at his disposal. It is extremely over priced for such a dismal read. Anyone who has purchased the Box set has read pretty much the same info given in this minute pamplet of wash. We need a vision of this man not a paint by numbers acount of times, places and song verses. Then again If you do not know the tale of johnson then this is the book for you. let me also highly recomend Robert palmers book Deep Blues. Also the finest attempt to give an acurate portrayal of such a god is the book LOVE in VAIN by Alan Greenberg...

Great Story, but nothing new
The recent packaging of the Complete Recordings of Robert Johnson has shown this bluesman to be one of the most influential musicians in American history. He is more popular now than he ever was in his lifetime. It is his life, rather than his legacy, that is the subject of music historian Peter Guralnick's book. Little is know about Johnson's life, but Guralnick brings what little there is to light in a fascinating work that is more like a ghost story than a biography.

Vivid description of the blues great
The 96 pages of this book are pack full of information about legendary bluesman Robert Johnson. Virtually everything that is known about Mr. Johnson is vividly detailed in this work. Makes for excellent reading.

Smells Like Teen Spit
I went into this expecting something funny and fantastic- Peter David being the genius behind the best novels of the Star Trek series, a phenomal run on The Incredible Hulk, and the longtime scribe of Captain Marvel- and I emerged, horribly dissapointed, from the burnt-out wreckage of this train accident of a graphic novel.

Reading this tripe is like being a teenager all over again: a grinding headache, an overwhelming urge to roll your eyes and a complete and utter contempt for your fellow human being sets in after less then five pages.

The characters are flat, the jokes revolve almost entirely around bad puns and are altogether lame, moments of angst are forced and uncomfortable to read, and out of four primary villains only one is actually defeated by this 'super-team'and not some other character or lucky circumstance.

The one shining moment in the whole book is a story taken, not from the series, but from the Young Justice Secret Files one-shot and is written and drawn by D. Curtis Johnson and Ale Garza, respectively. In this issue Robin and Superboy do not sport interchangeable faces, Arrowette is not an annoying priss who turns to submissive mush whenever she gets around a super-male and the story is actually engaging. I was dissapointed when this secton was over because it meant I had to go back to slogging through David's unfathomably bad mire.

For a decent read about teen superheroes try graphic novels of Marv Wolfman and Georege Perez's run on the New Teen Titans, Claremont's stint on Uncanny X-men, or (And believe me, it pains me to say this) even the Brandon Choi, J. Scott Campbell incarnation of Gen13, at the very least you'll enjoy the art.

As for Peter David, please don't let this sour you on his work. His talent is enormous and I'd like to think of this as just a minor misstep; spend your money on one of his great paperbacks or on any other of his graphic novels instead. I'd hate to think anyone passed on other highly entertaining works just because this drivel tainted their perspective.

a cool new comic featuring the young heros of dc.
{MAJOR SPOILERS} a enjoyable comic, that at first has just id, ego and superego, fighting evil werever it lurks and soon the girls join in. I liked the story of "harm". a teenager who plans to be the worlds greatest super villan, and belive it or else, he is pretty stong, fast, and smart. his dad is forced to shot him, which is pretty bad because he was a cool villan.

this gets only three stars because robin is out of charicter, {he's smart but not THIS smart} and because the parent/teacher conference is just unreal. {wonder girl and arrowette's moms, nightwing for robin, dubbilex for superboy and max mercury for impulse.

heros: robin, superboy, impulse, arrowette, secret, wonder girl, superman, batman, wonder woman, martian manhunter, aquaman, flash, green lantern, max mercury, nightwing, oracle, supergirl {mentioned}, dubbilex, green arrow {illusion}, red tornado.

villans: harm, despero, mr. myxzptlk, tora, rip roar, mighty endowed.

A silly trip into the younger side of DC
While SUperman, Batman, Wonder Woman and the rest of the JLA seem to hog a lot of the DC spot light, we sometimes forget about the younger side of the DC world. Granted Robin continuaously teams wiht BAtman and we more often than not see Superboy help out Superman, but what about the other protoges that include Impulse, WOnder Girl, and Arrowette. This novel focus on these teen heroes as well as the return of Red Tornado and the joining of a rescued MEta human from a previouse Novel, Secret.

The book starts off with Robin, Superboy, and Impulse just hanging at the former JLA HQ when they meet a retired Red Tornado. From there the story leads to their battles with a young Mxplyx, Desparos ghost, rescuing meta human children, and facing off against their most dangerouse (and short lived) villian Harm.

The book features cool action that you would see in any DC story, but also features comical moments as RObin is as serioue as his mentor Batman (to the point he won't even reveal who he really is) Superboy is running on Hormones as he falls for Arrowette and inadvertadly makes Wodner Girl Jealouse, and Impulse is so childish and silly that one can't help but laugh.

Overall this is a really silly yet action packed novel that is fun to read and loaded with laughs and suspense. I would recomend this to any DC fan or any one in need of some cheesey fun.

Schizophrenia: the Facts

Inadequate, Outdated, and Disappointing
Schizophrenia: the Facts gave minimal information about schizophrenia. Despite the publication date, the material is quite dated. Tsuang is in the mainstream of psychiatrists in supporting a biological origin of the disorder. I was disappointed with the brevity of Tsuang's coverage of important and practical matters. It is a book that I would offer to neither consumers nor families. Skip this book. There are far better books written at the level of this one. You will get more bang for the buck purchasing the books under the heading "Customers who bought this book also bought..." or "Customers who bought titles by...also bought titles by these authors...." I'm surprised that Oxford University Press is associated with this inadequate and disappointing book.

"Schizophrenia: The Facts" Fails To Deliver
I was initially captivated by the scope of topics represented in the table of contents and the author, Ming T. Tsuang, is eminently qualified to write on this subject. The book does deliver "The Facts" but fails to provide supporting documentation for the inquiring reader. Footnotes and endnotes are absent. The bibliography is sparse with 13 entries and cites two articles by the author. The citations are considerably outdated with the exception of Hirsch and Weinberger's epic "Schizophrenia." E Fuller Torrey is called T E Fuller. The reference to Andreasen's "Broken Mind" should have been supplemented with her later "Schizophrenia: From Mind to Molecule." With a copyright date of 1997, I am surprised by a failure to mention Zyprexa and Seroquel. I recommend that readers pass by this book. There are better written and comprehensive treatments available. E Fuller Torrey's "Surviving Schizophrenia" 3rd ed wears its age well and is more lucidly written. Irving Gottesman's "Schizophrenia Genesis" remains the definitive treatment of the predisposition-stress model. Despite it's expense, I think that Hirsch and Weinberger's "Schizophrenia" is the definitive, scholarly treatment. It is encyclopedic. Mueser and Gingerich's "Coping with Schizophrenia" is packed with practical advice for family caregivers. Sophia Vinogradov's "Treating Schizophrenia" is a readable, first class book by a leading researcher. I highly recommend her enjoyable and informative book. Keefe and Harvey's "Understanding Schizophrenia" is also an outstanding treatment. Kaplan and Sadock's "Comprehensive Textbook of Psychiatry" can be profitably studied by a motivated reader. Tsuang delivers the barest of facts and leaves the disappointed reader wanting more information. The reader seeking information on schizophrenia is better served by these other books. If pressed by necessity, check the NIMH publications that are online.

An outstanding book for lay readers
Schizophrenia: The Facts is an outstanding book for the lay reader. Unlike many other books on the topic which are complicated by medical and scientific jargon, this book is truly accessible to the non-expert.
