Great book for modelers!
This book is an invaluable source of information for plastic modelers building the German Tiger II.Color illustrations together with cutaway drawings provide accurate details of the interior layout of the tank. For future reference to the author, the addition of RAL numbers of paint colors as indexed to the colors in the illustrations in the book would be a possible improvement to be considered on this work.

A TII book friendly to your pocket
This book is a small gem. Reference on this tank is as complete as can be packed in 48 pages. Not only development history is included, but also are packed gun tables, direct comparisons to opposite tanks, and unit history with order of battle. Unless you plan to buy Jentz and Hillary more complete books, this is a must for the modeller and historian!

Average review score:

Clever and slyly engaging
This book allows us to slip into a world of half realized expectations and subtle dreams. It is a magnificant journey into the mind of one of the most interesting personas of the prose poem. Johnson's words swirl about you and settle amid your beliefs and preconceptions before you know what hit you. A must read for anyone interested in exploring themselves and their world.

Pretty Happy - Enough Said
In a genre that is never in the limelight, Peter Johnson uses a variety of interesting symbols, characters, and situations to bring prose poetry to its highest level. Instilled with subtle pain and humor, Pretty Happy is filled with poems that will take you into the lives of characters you know on paper for only a few sentences, but that stay in your head for days.

Good enough for a beginner
This book is good enough when one takes it for what it is,that is a selection of dishes served in trattorias around Italy aiming at the casual reader or even the tourist that wants to know what will find there, or recreate some of the dishes he enjoyed while he was there. It will also appeal to the person that doesn't mind dishing out cash for that odd recipe that he might have never seen before. It is definetely not for the serious or experienced cook that wants to jump deep into Italian cuisine, but that is not why the book was written.
On the contents themselves, the book is divided into appetisers, first courses, main courses, side dishes and desserts. The recipies are good and the author does not take irritating shortcuts, ie no canned sauces ,and the pasta is handmade.
Beautiful photographs throughout and simple instructions make this a very pleasant read.Four stars though for the afore mentioned and because for a book called trattoria not enough information is given about trattorias and their functions(some other books make you think you are there).

The Author Knows Her Stuff
An excellent choice for a gift book for those who love authentic Italian Cooking, or even better for yourself. You would have to do months and months of research to gain the knowledge contained in this book. The pictures will make your mouth water, and the instructions will easliy guide you as you learn the secrets of the Tratorria. I highly recommend it. Purchase and enjoy this book, and maybe, if you're lucky, Mary Beth will send you her secret recipe for Lasagna.

WARNING
Actually.....nil stars.

Only buy it if you are the sort of person who buys timeshare, the Eiffel Tower, etc...

For those who are unaware, the "MacCathy Mor" discussed in the book was really an imposter.

A pivotal chapter in the modern history of Gaelic nobility
The reality of an indigenous Irish nobility is not much understood or accepted inside Ireland itself, much less in the rest of the world. As the victors write the history, too much Irish history has omitted any reference to the fact that Ireland had its own kings and nobles well before the Norman-English intruded on the scene. To this day the claims of persons such as the MacCarthy Mor to royal status are met with skepticism; relevant to this book, one individual expressed this skepticism so openly as to warrent a suit before the Italian courts. This lawsuit offered the MacCarthy Mor to present to a court of experts his credentials as Head of the Royal House of Munster, as Chief of his Name, and as rightful bearer of the coat of arms of the MacCarthy Mor. The Court carefully reviews and expounds on the evidence presented, and the ruling presents in detail the Court's rationale for fully supporting the MacCarthy Mor's claims. This book is a must read for any student of Irish history, modern aristocracy, chivalry, or heraldry. A word of warning, though: this is a legal document, and it reads like one -- don't expect light reading, but do expect to be educated!

The Gaelic Nobility survived the flight of the Wild Geese
If you thought that the Gaelic Nobility died out in 1601, or even 1691, this book is for you. This book documents the present situation of one of the Royal lines of Ireland. It documents the present views of two European powers towards the rights and prerogatives of the current representative of the Royal Eoghanacht Dynasty. This Royal line ruled over the southwest quarter of Ireland for more than a thousand years. The last regnant King was Donal IX, King of Desmond, who died in 1596.

Yet the dynasty, with it's rights and priveleges, survives! Contained in the book are the transcripts of two Italian Court rulings, a translation of a Certification from the Kingdom of Spain, and copies of various supporting documents that were made available for the Italian and Spanish authorities. This book will be of special interest to those who study the Gaelic history of Ireland, and those who claim descent from the MacCarthy family.

Bad book
I did not like it. It is a bad story. Wolfs are not bad like in the story. Peter doesnt listen to his grandpa, so it is a bad example.

Good companion to the music
If you are familiar with the Prokofiev symphony, this book makes a good companion to the music. It puts into visual images the story of Peter and the Wolf. What I like most about the book is that, in the end, the duck lives. The ending varies somewhat depending on the version of the recording or book. In this book, it's a happy ending, which is better for younger readers.

We use the book by itself sometimes. Other times, my child will read along while we listen to the symphony.

A great book for little people who love music!
Our children, 3 year old twins, love the music of Prokofiev's Peter and the Wolf. In searching for an age appropriate book to show them the musical instruments that play each of the characters, we found this one illustrated by Ian Beck. Not only are the illustrations lovely, the colors and clothing of Peter, the hunters and the grandfather are interesting to a child. Also, each page shows the instrument played for that part of the story (find it in the box around the text), and in the back a page illustrates each instrument. We cannot recommend this lovely book enough to parents of young children discovering the beauty of music!

Lee's Young Artillerist: William R.J. Pegram (A Nation Divided)
Published in Hardcover by University Press of Virginia (1995)
Author: Peter S. Carmichael
Amazon base price: $29.50
Average review score:

More about "the cause" than artillery
The great strength of this book is in highlighting the ethos of Southern gentlemen like Willy Pegram. Carmichael demonstrates that men like Pegram were engaged in a holy war and as such, performed heroic feats on the battlefield. So if you're one of those people who are still facinated by "the cause" of this war, then this is a book for you. If you're looking for a book on Confederate artillery tactics, techniques, and procedures, however, you'll have to look elsewhere.

Great Ibook about a young Confederate Officer Experience
I found this book a very interesting read. In it, Peter Carmichael describes the military career of the young Confederate officer, William Pegram. The books gives a nice overview of his successful role in the Army of Northern Virginia as an artillery officer. Most of the text chronicles Pegram's swift rise through the ranks as he boldly leads his men, cannons, horses and caissons on the battlefield. Mr. Carmichael uses many of Pegram's letters home to tell his story. More importantly, Pegram's view of the war, slavery, and the Confederate Cause, come through as well.

Mr. Carmichael does a fantastic job of revealing how some of the young Confederate officers like Pegram viewed the Civil War. Since most Civil War books focus more on the Generals than the junior officers who actually fought the battles, I felt that this book really brought a new perspective to my understanding of the conflict.

I do not recommend this book for those who do not already possess a good understanding of the Civil War. Instead, I highly recommend this book to anyone who has gained an appreciation for the war, and is looking to find out more about its participants. This book really opened my eyes about "the Southern Cause", and how it meant different things to different people.

A wealth of insights
More than just a blood-and-guts biography of a incredibly brave young officer, this book provides really very interesting insight into the minds and motives of educated Southern twentysomethings before and during the war. This is a fine offering from one of the better young historians working today.

Ethernet-Based Metro Area Networks
Published in Paperback by McGraw-Hill Professional (01 January, 2002)
Authors: Daniel Minoli, Peter Johnson, and Emma Minoli
Amazon base price: $69.95

On the fence
This is a good book. It provides a solid foundation for questioning the way in which MANs are constructed today. The problem with the book is the author takes a confusing stance on the subject of constructing pure Ethernet networks within the MAN. At points, you will feel as though the author isn't sure himself that this is the best solution for providing a robust solution. But still a very good read. When I first picked it up, I couldn't put it down. But I kept expecting something that never did manifest. This book needed to provide more detail in terms of the actual construction, and less on the comparison between legacy TDM and Ethernet. Very much worth reading though.

A book I couldn't put down
Searching for a book in my school's library. I did what anyone kid would do randomly picked a book of the shelf. It wasn't like what I thought it would be. I felt like I was in the book. I love how Andrea Davis portrays the characters, it really does make them seem real. The author really did her job on researching the facts for this book. She gave the characters such vivid description I felt like I knew them. It was creatively written. It was definetely a book I couldn't put down!
