God as Communion
This is another welcome addition to the growing corpus on "communion theology" in the English language. The provided sample pages can speak for themselves, so I won't write anything too detailed. I would, however, make a few recommendations for other similar books. Concerning "God talk" and the divine names, a defense of traditional naming can be found in "Speaking the Christian God", ed. by Kimel. Of course the works of both John Zizioulas and Elizabeth Fox are relelvant, especially Zizioulas' "Being as Communion". "God For Us" by Catherine LaCugna is very scholarly and relelvant in that it places the Trinitarian debate within the context of the personal relationships. In other words, like Zizioulas, LaCugna sees the Trinity as the Primal communion of love by which all things, especially human personhood, hold together and find their end (and beginning!). Great Scholars, Excellent Discussion
This book provides an excellent overview of some of the most important current topics in Historical Jesus Study. They include:(1) a study of Galilee at the time of Jesus (by E. P. Sanders); (2) a comparison and analysis of Jesus's teachings with the doctrines contained in the Dead Sea Scrolls (by Daniel J. Harrington); (3) some preliminary musings by John P. Meier about how he will reconcile the Elijah-like miracle working prophet who has emerged to date from his "Marginal Jew" series with the early remembrance of Jesus as the Davidic Messiah; (4)an assement of the important role of oral traditions as sources for the Gospels (by James D. G. Dunn); and finally, a respected systematic theologian's perspective on the importance and usefulness of honest and objective historical Jesus research in terms of nurturing the Christian faith (by Elizabeth A. Johnson).

The contributors are all leading scholars who are excited about their subjects. They brilliantly employ the tools of honest, objective, historical criticism--but they also do not apologise for their faith. This short collection provides an excellent introduction to the work and thought processes of these wonderful scholars. I recommend it highly.

Excellent Overview of Intuition
This is the first thing I've read by Dale Olson, and I am impressed with his straightforward, no nonsense style. He takes a bold stance on many subjects and just states his opinion about the subject as he sees it. "The subconscious mind is the interface or the integrated connection between the conscious mind and intuition." Well said! He isn't flowery, and he writes about his subject in a clear, consise manner. You get the feeling he has been through his ups and downs with learning "the intuition", as he calls it, and that he comes from a well informed opinion. In the introduction we learn about some his earlier exploits with dowsing and trying to become rich by finding gold. He doesn't become rich, but does learn much his abilities in the process. If you are looking for a good introduction to the subject I recommend this book.

Gaining Computer Knowledge
This book is great for the beginner. It covers Windows95, Office 97, Internet, Word 97, Excel 97, Power Point, Outlook, and integration between the applications. It is a great book for a beginner because it is very explicit and includes excellent illustrations. If you are familiar with a certain application, you can easily skip over sections and get to what you want to learn about. It also has sections that show how to the information from one application in another. It will quickly get you up to speed in using these applications. It would definetly be a good tool to use to gain computer skills for those just being introduced to Microsoft Office applications

Pawtucket's Rich History
Pawtucket, Rhode Island, has a rich history. These authors have labored well in finding that history. Among other things, they have dug through old deeds and other documents to produce maps based on the description of the land holdings before 1800. With this book in hand, you can navigate the streets of present day Pawtucket and trace history.

Important to lovers of family history, particularily the Bucklin family, are the details of family and town life before 1750.

Chomsky is dead or at least dying...
Grammar isn't encoded in our genomes. It is learned. The beginnings of the proof are here. This is an important book. Read it and it's companion: Exercises in Rethinking Innateness : A Handbook for Connectionist Simulations; which gives you hands on with the models discussed.

Framing an Environment
If you value field guides, you will love this Time-Life edition of "The Walker's Companion" from The Nature Company. Several highly respected nature writers, including David Rains Wallace and Ann Zwinger, make contributions to this well-illustrated and highly informative text. Those names should give you a clue to the excellent combination of literary and scientific writing that makes this text a must-have reference for anyone who is interested in the environment.

This is a field guide that powerfully combines content with context in a way that makes the information about nature and the environment not only highly accessible, but intrinsically linked to the key social topics that are central issues in both science and social studies. Topics include the history of nature writing and in America, hiking tips, the study of nature throughout the ages, field identification and sketching outdoors. Ecological concepts such as food chains and pollination are concisely described and illustrated in a section titled, "Understanding Nature". Information about every ecosystem from forests, mountains and deserts to farmland and vacant lots is included in the "Guide to Habitats" section. This kind of comprehensive perspective about environment helps the reader to think about and see ecology in very relevant ways.

The format of double-facing pages per topic gives concise environmental information, making it easy to read, index and apply to the reader's world. The guide is an essential home or travel reference as well as a valuable classroom text that would be interesting and accessible for audiences from 10 to 100. The text is so versatile that I have a copy for myself and have ordered a class set for my middle school students for a wide range of class use including nature drawing, research, gardening and environmental education.

Redefining God
Women, Earth, and Creator Spirit is an awesome way for readers to rethink and examine their traditioanl views on God. Elizabeth Johnson connects the destruction of the earth with the oppression of women in a unique way. As a reader of this book in a university theology class, I felt like my mind opened up and truly connected with the ideas that she presented. Ideas that i had not yet been able to articulate appeared so eloquently in this prophetic little book. A quick read, this book will leave you thinkng for quite some time about the need for a new recognition of the Creator Spirit in Christian institutions
