Rather insipid pabulum: more Chicken Soup for Teen Leaders
Indeed, "Chicken Soup's" Jack Canfield has a promotional blurb on this book's front cover. Fans of his work & the "Teen Power" series might be delighted by this volume. I guess I'm not w/in that target audience. This volume is essentially an anthology w/ many "cutesy" mini-essays on various sub-aspects of learning about leadership. But I can't see it appealing to too many student leaders beyond those in Jr. High.

Lead Now - or Step Aside
Brilliant book for students in High School, it is an ideal workbook for teachers like me who want to give kids leadership skills. What I like best is it brought together the best of the speakers we have had in our schools -- The Kids Were Blown Away!

Madden 2000: Superbowl or Bust?
I was really looking foward to getting this book only to be disappointed. The strategic information included was way to general in nature and the player ratings incomplete ( where were the ratings for the superbowl, all-time and pro-bowl teams?) OK, all the codes are included and thats nice, but this book was a little too light on strategy to suit my tastes. For rookies it my be a good source of general information. Anyone looking for some indepth strategies should look elsewhere.

a great game with a great book
It Tells you every thing you need to know and it is simple as that

Myths and Nationalism since 1780 : Programme, Myth, Reality
Published in Hardcover by Cambridge University Press (1990)
Author: Eric John Hobsbawm

Confirmation for Marxists, but not much analysis
Hobsbawn's book is quite over rated as a text about nationalism. Those fellow idiological readers who share Hobsbawn's delight in exposing the "myths" of nationalism and nations will of course find it "brilliant and insightful", but one wonders if they admire the analysis, or just agree with his conclusion? Hobsbawm's strongly implied conclusion that nationalism and nations are "on the way out" means for him that so is war and conflict. But one wonders if for all the faults of nationalism and nations if the institutions and arrangements that replace them will be any better. There was war, slavery and injustice long before the 18th century, whether systems were empires or feudal, so why should the successors of nations be any better. Oh, I forgot if we all think like Hobsbawm "we can unite."

Not a good introduction to the study of nationalism
Hobsbawm's contribution to the study of nationalism is, I believe, overrated, simply because it has become something of a starting point for people who want to familiarize themselves with this complex subject. Not to criticize Hobsbawm excessively; I think he's one of the finest living historians who writes in the English language, and his four "Age of..." books are among the finest historiographical works on the last two centuries. But in this book his anti-nationalist bias shows, and the work suffers for it, especially the conclusion. Hobsbawm has an explicitly critical stance on nationalism, and his entire argument in this book seems to be aimed at showing that as a historical phenomena nationalism is on its way out. While I share, to some extent, Hobsbawm's distaste for nationalism, I can't agree with this conclusion--and the events of the last decade definitely contradict this view. Whatever one may think of nationalism, it is a very important political and social phenomenon, and it deserves more serious and careful consideration than it gets in this book. Even so, I give it a three-star rating, because like all of Hobsbawm's books, it is very well written and engaging, and he provides some interesting insights into the ways nationalism became a political force during the late 19th century.

Hobsbawm At His Best - Once Again!
Hobsbawm's 'Nations and Nationalism' reveals once again the author's genius. Splendidly written, it is, first of all, a pleasure to read. With a wide range of examples, the British historian shows a truly cosmopolitan view of a rather narrow-minded phenomenon. Much more importantly, however, he unveils one of the great myths of populist rhetoric: that nations have always existed. Not only are they fairly recent developments, argues Hobsbawm, but their conceptions have changed significantly over the last 200 years or so. From time to time, the author may be a little bit too idealistic in his judgments. But over all, 'Nations and Nationalism Since 1780' is an extremely valuable book. Read it as an introduction, or read it as polemic: both ways, you will most probably enjoy it!

DO NOT BUY
I buy this book to help learn .NET to take MicroSoft tests. Did not know book is writen for beta .NET. I did not pass test since I learned from wrong version.

DO NOT BUY. Is old and no help.

Too focused on a particular solution
Forget this book, unless you application the same as theirs.

Good overview
This book provides an exellence big picture of .NET in developing an e-commerce website. It will definitely save you a lot of time in developing a website. It does not provide in detail on how do you implement it though. You would need specific books on asp.net and on VB.net or C# to complement it.

This book fails to deliver detailed information.
This book fails to deliver on the goods it promisses. On the back of the book box, it proclaims EXAUSTIVE coverage of everything including database integration, Add-ins, SQL server, ect... . This couldn't be further from the truth, in fact the text doenst go in depth with any of these topics. With over 2,000 pages to read you'd think they would cover some ground wouldn't you? I bought the set on discount and it wasn't even worth that much. A wide variety of topics were only BRIEFLY addressed, do yourself a favor, look for VB books published by WROX, at least they care about what your reading. In the meantime, i have wasted my time and space on my bookshelf because of this text.

Visual Basic 5 SuperBible with CDROM
Its little bit Advance lavel book, but it contain huge refernce. They try to re-presnt like VB dictionary. Its not bad.

The Best Reference Guide Yet!!
A great book for referencing!! I've reviewed over 20 VB reference guides and I still come back this one every time... even when coding in VB6. I strongly recommend it to anyone who simply needs answers immediately!

Easily the Worst book I can remember buying
I am not sure who this book the 'committee' wrote this for, but I can think of no one. More like a hodge-podge collection of Internet clippings somewhat related to Java & Macs, interspersed with useless code. It is sad because the Mac market needs a Java book covering getting started and the many options and tools Apple has provided the Java student & developer.

I am sorry I wasted my money & was responsible for the deaths of the trees that made it!

Mac OS X Java
This is probably the worst technical book that I have read. Its more a collection of papers than anything else, and much of the content is trivial. Beginning progrmmers would find nothing in here. Advanced programmers will probably find a few nuggets of information that are useful, but they are few and far between.

Just what I was looking for...
If you are looking for an excellent book on Java on the new Macintosh operating system OS X, this is one to get. The writing style is well done and the book, in terms of content, is well thought out. I am enjoying the authors coverage of pure Java vs Mac OS X specific issues in particular. Keep up the good job.

Horrible! Nothing like the real test!
I studied out of 7 different preparation books, and this one, by far is the worst one! The questions in this book are really difficult, tricky and unlike the CLEP exam! The questions in the actual CLEP exam arent tricky like the SAT or GRE, they are straightforward. For some reason, Peterson's has decided to put in SAT-like questions on their practice exam. This book should be thrown out of the market because its NOTHING like the real exams! I would recommend Princeton Review's Cracking the CLEP, and Review for Clep Examination by Comex Systems. The REA also writes really accurate practice exams. If you are taking English, I also recommend you purchase "The Writer's Reference" by Diana Hacker. That was probably the most helpful book in brushing up on your English.

CLEP
I found the practice exercises in this book to be very helpful, and I did really well when I took the CLEP afterwards.

Just like all other Petersons books... excellent quality....
Looking to maximize my ability on the CLEP tests to avoid taking numerous classes that I have no interest in. If you'd like to get practice on these tests, than this book may help.

Could be a lot better
The book is ok as a rough guide/what to look out
but for something simple e.g. instructions for simple
change of a front headlamp the book indicated total removal
of the headlamp unit on my '98 A4. Fortunately I
remembered to the dealership service advice that
I simply had to pop off a plastic cap behind the
headlamp, undo a clip, unplug the old bulb and replace
it - took less than 5 minutes - good thing I did not
follow the book!
Overpriced too.

Good for new do-it-yourself mechanic
The book explains pretty simple car repair jobs and includes some indepth types of repair. It has some pictures, but they might use one picture for 4 different types of repair. If you are just wondering how to preform basic car maintenance this book is for you.

It's a good book for the DIY'er
I bought this book knowing full well what year it was for, unlike another reviewer that appears to not know anything about cars. It's a good book for minor to somewhat complex repairs for the Passat and A4. It's not like a Bentley manual, but it's better than nothing, and I really don't want to pay this much for a repair book. I highly recommend this manual for the owners of these cars.

Does Prima Tech read the books it publishes?
The opening paragraph of chapter 1 reads as follows:

"There are many ways to distinguish a good software development project from a mediocre one. You can look at the appearance of the screens, the way the application behaves, the structure of the underlying tables, or the source code itself. Each of these items tells you something about the developers who built it."

The finished application, World Wide Shoes, which is included on the CD and purported to be the end result of working through the exercises in this book, speaks volumes about the author and the publisher. The application is amateurish and of poor quality. It represents few of the development standards outlined in the book.

I get the feeling the author has studied programming theory, but has done very little application development.

A must for those who need to implement the Windows API!
Not since the days when Mike Brachman was writing on integrating FoxPro and the Windows API has there been such a clear and concise text. This book as loads of great examples, and most importantly, discusses how to pass structures to Windows API functions that require those type of parameters.

This book is a must for any serious Visual FoxPro Developer. Hopefully, the tradition of excellence will continue with a version 7.0 of this book in the future.

Great book for non-newbies
This is a great book for people that are already familiar with the Visual FoxPro environment. It provides a no bull approach to using Visual FoxPro for real. It has great coverage of the Windows API and a great set of libraries for Microsoft Office. If you want to learn how to use the advanced features of VFP quickly then this book is for you.

Lucas Davenport's Love Life
I really had to force myself to finish this book. It is only the second in the Prey series that I have read, but after reading Certain Prey, it is a disappointment. I listened to it on audiobook and had a terrible time trying to keep up with the characters. I wasn't able to go back and look up the names again, so struggled a bit that way. Sandford didn't really take the time to develop the characters, which made it hard to feel much empathy towards them. Plus the fact that all he could seem to think about was which woman would he sleep with. He had the friend ( a fellow policewoman who was shot), the model (who he did sleep with), the Dr. (who he thought he might marry if she asked him) and his old girlfriend from his college days. I, like other reviewers, just really didn't care much about the people in the story and the action just didn't interest me. It sounds like the previous Prey books are more worth my time and I'll have to go back and try them.

Too Many Dead Bodies and Too Many Girlfriends
Lucas Davenport is called in to head the investigation into the strangulation death of supermodel Aliiee'e Maison at a society party following a photoshoot; the investigation soon uncovers the body of Sandy Lansing stuffed in a closet and the complications begin. As the story unfolds, these deaths are followed by evidence of drug use, lesbian sex, incest, and further murders interspersed with the complicated family and personal relationships of the people involved. Given all the interrelated aspects of the plot, the narrative jumped around a great deal and was further complicated by the influence of Lucas' personal relationships on the plot.

Readers of this series know that Lucas has been estranged from his former fiancee Weather Karkinnen since the horrific hospital shootout in SUDDEN PREY; this is the story that allows Lucas and Weather to have a chance to begin to reconnect. Meanwhile, his former girlfriend and fellow cop Marcy Sherrill plays a crucial role in the story, and Lucas is fascinated by and attracted to Alie'e girlfriend, the former model (who has taken up pottery) Joel Corbeau. And just to add a further complication he is distracted by a chance meeting with a college girlfriend who rekindles old memories (and perhaps more). Another female integral to the plot is Rose Marie Roux, who is still the chief of police and very worried about the political complications and widespread media attention. Finally Lucas needs to call on his old friend Ellie Kruger (Sister Mary Joseph) for advice once again. With the added backdrop of Lucas' personal relationships, at times Lucas and old friend Del Capslock seem even more confused than the reader and not at the top of their game.

I enjoyed the book, and found it a very fast and engaging read. But I read it as a Lucas Davenport fan rather than a devotee of the PREY series; I have just recently started the series and have been reading the books out of sequence and thus did not have the disappointment of some of the long time readers that this represented a break in style from the earlier works. This is about Lucas and how this case causes him to reevaluate his life and his relationships, the murders are clearly a means to that end for the author. Thus, the case was confusing, and some of the elements seem quite contrived relative to most of Sandford's books. Finally, the solution to the last of the unsolved murders and the ending of the book were not as at all foreshadowed as they are in most police procedurals and classic detective stories.

Thus, if your goal is to get to know Lucas, this book does a good job of character development and is four stars on that basis; it includes the usual supporting cast and the expected clever exchanges between Del and Lucas. You will be disappointed if you are expecting a book that follows the model of the previous books in the PREY series, as the many one and two star reviews indicate. While I definitely felt it was a wothwhile read and recommend EASY PREY, be prepared for what it is - a book which transitions the series from straight police procedurals to stories involving more character development and more complex storylines with interrelated subplots.

Another good Prey book
This was a great Lucas Davenport book.fast and somewhat confusing....It took a long time to sort out all the characters that Sandford gave us. And I even liked when he started to recall past events from the other Prey books, but it took a lot to keep up with this one. I was not prepared for the "villian" at the end. I kept thinking I had it figured out and then ...Wham! ...my suspect is murdered too. I couldn't make the connections and the ending was not as well prepared as some of the other books he's written. But that doesn't mean I won't be waiting for the next one out..I WILL. The ending here is a cliff hanger for sure, and I will refrain from giving my opinion on that...don't want to give away everything. Others have mentioned poor editing and I did see evidence of that too. I can't give an exact example right now, but I know there were instances that were repeated within one or two pages of each other. That happens to all writers I'm sure. All in all, this is a recommendation for anyone that like police procedural/mystery/suspense type books...get it now.
