The Tenniel Illustrations to the "Alice" Books
Published in Paperback by Ohio State Univ Pr (Txt) (1985)
Author: Michael Hancher

Detailed discussions and comparisons
This book discusses in some detail John Tenniel's illustrations to Lewis Carroll's "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland" and its sequel, "Through the Looking-Glass and what Alice Found There". The bulk of the book makes detailed comparisons between aspects of Tenniel's illustrations and other similar illustrations and artwork by Tenniel and his contemporaries, including Dodgson's own illustrations for "Alice's Adventures Under Ground", and a lot of comparison with "Punch" illustrations, where Tenniel worked. The working relationship between Dodgson and Tenniel is discussed, and Hancher also describes the exacting extent to which both perfectionists wanted their work done as best as possible, such as the very tight correlation between text and layout of the illustrations demanded by Dodgson.

A good reference item for people interested in children's book illustrations of the period, or of the original Tenniel-illustrated editions of Alice in particular. 150 large-format (29 x 26 cm) landscape pages, with many black & white illustrations from Punch, the Macmillan editions of Alice, Dodgson's handwritten manuscript, and other illustrations and artwork, on only fair-quality paper.

Very well organized
This book is a good reference in many points of the usability process - evaluation, design, and testing. The authors organize chapters in a very structured way that the content is very digestible. At 448 pages, the book isn't meant to be read in a single session, but again, it's a great reference.

My favorite part about this book is the fact that it actually has a section on user documentation - something that is lacking in many books on the subject of usability, and the achilles heel of many projects.

Not worth your time
I recommend not buying this book. I did on the stength of some good reviews on this web site and some good words by Trader Vic. The essence of the book is to use stock screens to look for good stocks, and then use technical analysis to decide when to buy. It's a reasonable premise. In the first edition the two model portfolios returned about +25% and +90% in about a year. That's pretty impressive but occurred at the top of the stock market. In the second edition, two new model portfolios were created. I checked the prices and about a year later, you would have lost almost 100% in each portfolio. I'm sure the author is honest and sincere. However, his methods do not work. In the first edition, he was simply lucky.

Magnet Investing gets it right
Magnet Investing is a refreshing approach to investing which provides a methodology for investing rather than the typical hype found in many investment books. The approach is easy to follow and there are many examples for the reader to learn stock selection, as well as buy and sell signals. The approach strikes the right balance between technical analysis and common sense. I found the book to be useful, well written and would highly recommend it.

Magnet Investing 2nd edition-great book
I decided to buy Magnet Investing after seeing Mr. Kimmel on several CNBC and CNN segments. This guy knows his stuff and his book reflects it. He has a trademarked stock selection process, and the stocks it picked in the first edition of his book returned 90% in 12 months. This book is filled with information for all levels of investors and provides lots of tables that give a historical perspective of the stock market. Although I felt I didn't need it, the book has several chapters for beginners on how to plan and manage a portfolio and then covers information for more advanced investors including asset allocation and when to buy and sell. Then he turns to the Magnet Stock Selection Process and shows the reader how to use your computer to set up searches using specific criteria for selecting stocks. Finally there is a chapter on tax efficiency and recommended reading and internet sites. The book is loaded with great charts and tables. It's one of the best investment books I've read...and I've seen most of them!

Scenario-Based Design: Envisioning Work and Technology in System Development
Published in Hardcover by John Wiley & Sons (15 May, 1995)
Author: John M. Carroll
Amazon base price: $55.00

Scenario based design
The book is a good exploration of new way understanding user's experience. Many guru from HCI join to write the books such as Allan Maclean(his design rationale QOC). This book seems to be good but they are fail to understand what user's need. This is a representation of failure. Many authours try to take the technology based and change their title to scenario.

A great start to a new way of thinking
This book resulted from a think tank on the nature of use-oriented design representations and the part they play in the development of computer systems and applications. Enter scenario-based design. The book is made up of a number of essays - each with their own spin on the idea and their own examples of its application. While this makes the content a little hard to access, it also offers a rich resource and food-for-thought. Of particular interest to me was the relation of scenario-based design to object oriented design and HCI principles and practices. A must for serious designers who want to explore ways of creating systems that better serve users.

user interface design
i am a phd student and need to search the topic about user interface design.

How much lemon zest can a person eat?
I use this book when I need a quick side dish or a simple entree. But the most of the recipes are pretty boring and bland. My other "healthy cooking" books make wholesome food delicious by using creative seasonings. The Mayo Clinic puts the grated zest of a citrus fruit in every other recipe and leaves it at that. Haven't they ever heard of herbs and spices?

This cook-book is an excellent gift for the ultimate hostess
Absolutely beautiful dishes you can't believe you made yourself in a fairly short time frame! The best part is eating healthy and it tastes great.I've made recipes from this book for two weeks now and haven't missed meat at all. Just bought one for my mother and she bought one for a friend. Highly recommended especially for the host or hostess that likes to make an excellent presentation and impression!

Beautiful Food
When it comes to being inspired to create a culinary masterpiece, there is really something to be said for seeing beautiful photographs of the food you are soon to be preparing. This book draws you into the sensuous side of these dishes before you even hit the grocery store.

Alice in Wonderland
As far apart from the Disney classic as the movie version of Moby Dick is to its literary partner, Alice in Wonderland portrays the fanciful tale of the little girl, Alice, wandering about in a world of her own childhood imaginings and storybook recollections. If you have never actually READ the book, than you have a chance to know what your mother always thought would scare you as a little child, but really just adds to the fantastical wonderland which was the author's intention.

Carroll Shelby's Racing Cobra
Published in Hardcover by Mercian Manuals Ltd (1999)
Authors: John Christy and Dave Friedman
Amazon base price: $49.95

Not What I Had Hoped For!
The 1999 reprint is a "Facsimile reprint"; the pictures appear to be photocopies of the original photographs - the quality is not up to Dave Friedman's norm. Some of the photos can be found in other publications; so, do not purchase this book for the photographs.

John Christy's narrative is informative and included a lot of stories/facts that I had not heard previously. It's style is very readable. If it were not for the pictures in the 1999 reprint, I would rate this book at 4 or 5 stars...

The Classic Harley-Davidson: A Celebration of an American Icon

Not exactly Truth in Packaging.
...I ordered this book as a gift for my brother-in-law, who's into motorcycles. I thought the book would be exactly what the title said: a celebration of the long, proud history of Harley-Davidson, replete with gorgeous, suitable-for-framing photos of the company's products. The book arrived. I took one look at it, and gave it instead to my friend Bob, who has a taste for oddities. Bob took one look at it, and exclaimed, "THIS IS A COFFEE-TABLE BOOK ABOUT HELL'S ANGELS!" As indeed it is, down to the last bike-chain-wielding bruiser and Jello-wrestling biker babe. Sure, they all ride Harleys, but Harley-Davidson itself is--shall we say--peripheral to the book's actual theme. The photos are very well-done, if suitable-for-framing pix of Hell's Angels are what you want.

¿Classic Harley-Davidson,¿ Hardback
Considered a classically American symbol of freedom, the Harley-Davidson motorcycle is captured in 150 full-color photographs and engaging writing in this Thunder Bay Press hardback. "Classic Harley-Davidson" focuses on the machines' emotive power as well as biker lifestyle. Written by Mark Williams. 144 pages.

DONT BE FOOLED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
TREVOR BROWN IS IN NO WAY ASSOCIATED WITH THIS BOOK, I AM A TREVOR BROWN FAN AND THOUGHT THIS BOOK MAY HAVE DRAWINGS OF HIS TO COMPLEMENT THE BOOK....WRONG!!!!!!!!!!! THE ONLY THING OF TREVOR BROWN IS THE COVER, THAT'S IT. THE REST OF THE BOOK IS A BOOK, NO PICTURES OR ANYTHING ELSE, JUST A STORY. DONT GET THIS BOOK THINKING THAT THIS IS TREVOR BROWN'S EDITION OF ALICE.

Dont get it for the Trevor Brown Credit
I was misled by the Illustrator credit. I am a huge Trevor Brown fan and when I found he had "illustrated" this edition of Alice In Wonderland I was estatic! Imagining the possibilities his twisted and beautiful style could create with the already bizzare images from the book. Well his involvment amounts to the COVER OF THE BOOK! No other Trevor Brown illustrations are present in this tiny volume. The book itself is quite small. I was also irritated that regular ground shipping cost me MORE than the book did! Steer clear and buy a cheaper copy if all you want is the book.

Waste of time
This book is useless. The author obviously doesn't know anything about bread but simply wanted to cash in on the hard work of others.

Don't waste your time or money.
