The Bassoon Reed Manual: Lou Skinner's Techniques
I waited over a year for the book and it was worth the wait. It is well documented and well worth the cost of the book. It will definitely be a well used and valuable reference in any serious bassoonist library. It may be too advance for a beginning reed maker (Popkin & Glickman, Chris Weait, or Mark Eubanks reed books may be easier for them to follow). Thank you Mr. Skinner for sharing your knowledge.

A real teaching book.
I used this book in school. I knew the man who wrote the book. He was a fantastic teacher. The book is just as good. Unlike most text books, which solve problems, leaving you with "How did they get that", this book gives you the steps. It shows you how to get from here to there with the steps laid out so you actually say wow that was easy. Like the other books Person has written, this is a jem. I only wish he had completed the last book he was working on, Differential Equations. I've collected all his works. If you want to learn math, this is it.

Instructional Media and Technologies for Learning
Published in Paperback by Prentice Hall College Div (1999)
Authors: Robert Herrick, Michael Molenda, James D. Russell, and Sharon E. Smaldino
Amazon base price: $68.00

Nice update of a classic textbook
As a co-author, I can report that Instructional Media upholds the tradition established by this textbook in 1982. It is aimed primarily at those who are at the entry level in terms of using media for education or training. It helps instructors decide what media to use for different teaching/learning situations, and gives practical tips on HOW to achieve the best effect when using technology. The book began with a focus on audiovisual media; the sixth edition retains the most relevant audiovisual content, but shifts focus toward computer-based delivery. What remains constant is the conviction that effectiveness of mediated instruction depends very much on what the instructor does...how the technology is integrated into the overall learning program.

James Tissot
The paintings of James Tissot both reveal and pose questions concerning his subjects. Many works have seemingly deliberate contradictions. I found myself engrossed in each scene. This particular book is a beautiful collection of his most recognizable pieces.

Measuring Mammals, the difinitive work.
I am a mammalogist new to the field. I designed my first investigation, a mammalian bioinventory of a park in Costa Rica in 1999. The Wilson book was extremely helpful, and I cited it no less than 10 times in my permit application. I reccommend this publication to any persons hoping to work with mammals or currently employed sampling mammal diversity.

Groundbreaking
This book upsets the pieties of the left without serving the agenda of the right. No wonder some reviewers have accused Russell of pardoning Hoffa post-humously, while others have accused him of undue vilification. They're confused, because Out of the Jungle is not warped by the ideological orthodoxies that have made so many other books of labor history so boring, predictable, sanctimonious and sometimes even dishonest. Out of the Jungle is a breakthrough, a meticulous, clear-headed analysis of what made Hoffa an effective leader. One can only hope more labor historians will follow Russell's lead in the future

Not a bad book at all
One of the interesting things about science is how often its finding are counter-intuitive and are surprizes. You would think that most people are pretty good at reading facial expressions, and that some people like professional poker players are more than pretty good. In fact I once saw a book published for the benefit of the silent movie actors which had examples of facial expressions to be used to convey certain emotions on the screen: like a wide open mouth to signify surprize or amazement. It turns out that in real life as we know it such is not the case and that we are not so accurate as to our assessments of others. Sometimes a person with a wry smile is just a person with a wry smile. That what this book is about. It will help you learn that you still have something to learn. This is however a book for professionals in the psychology biz, since it recounts a lot of data. But it would be a useful tool for anyone interested in science as a whole, and anyone who like me is always interested in finding out that his entrenched preconceptions are not so well trenched as he thinks. That the footings are weak.

A 10!Inside story of 1 of world's greatest feats in aviation
For the first time, the exciting inside story of the breaking of the sound barrier as told by Chuck Yeager and his X-1 team members. World renowned stunt pilot Bob Hoover was Yeager's chase pilot that fatefull morning. It is a beautifully illustrated book with 125 photos, many from the authors private collections that have never been seen by the public or published before. It also includes a chapter on famous aviatrix and motion picture stunt pilot Pancho Barnes and her Happy Bottom Riding Club. Pancho offered a free steak to the first man to break the sound barrier (Mach One) and Yeager collected that steak on Oct. 14th 1947. Pancho's Club was the fraternity house for the test pilots, where they could share lessons learned in flying the new jets and to celebrate surviving for one more day

It is a brilliant saga of dedication to duty, team work, camaraderie, technical brilliance, unmatched flying skills and heroism. These men are true heroes and role models for todays youth.
