Very few words
I give this book 5 stars because it would be a great book for *very* young children. But, be warned. This book has very few words. The story is told mainly through the illustrations. It will not hold the interest of children ages 4+ as a read-aloud. The age level is incorrect here-- it should be Baby-Preschool, not ages 4-8.
A neat and cool book!
Hi, I am a girl (of course). I am age 7. I think this is a great book for everyone because it's easy to understand and it's good that the author does that. It is neat too because Rosie the rooster is going for a walk and a fox is following her and when she walks, like around the pond, the fox falls in it and so on and so on. The cool thing is that like in one page Rosie walks across something then the next page there is no writing but it shows the bad thing that happened to the fox. It is interesting to me because I think the illustrations are neat. I'm not sure if Pat Hutchins did the illustrations too.
A very funny book for both children and adults
This is a wonderful book. The illustrations are great and the humor is infectious. My two-year-old son loves it and goes right for the pages where the fox gets in trouble. It's great to see a book that has subtle (and not-so-subtle) humor designed to appeal to children and adults alike.

A book about every grandmother
I had to call my mom and read her this book over the phone. I think most parents will see their parents in this book. My kids made me read this 7 or 8 times (library book), and would have made me read it more if it hadn't been due back!
The search is on!
Join Sister, Mother, and a very doting Grandmother as they follow a trail of evidence in their hunt for Baby. The mischievious Baby gets into everything from mud to powder, tracking it throughout the house. My three year old daughter especially loved pointing out the monster hand and footprint showing where Baby had been and was going. She and I laughed together over this book with its fun story and vivid pictures.
Delightful Story, entertaining for parents & kids!!
The wonderful way that Grandma sees the positive side to all the antics of Baby is sure to make Moms, Dads and kids chuckle. Hazel and Mom wring their hands and roll their eyes but to Grandma, Baby can do nothing wrong. Sound familiar??
A fun, tongue-in-cheek short story with colorful, busy pictures. A big hit in our house!

My son is 15, and this is still his favorite book!
I bought "Don't Forget the Bacon" at a library book sale for $.25. It had been taped and rebound several times. At the time my daughter was 5 years old and my son was 2. We would curl up together and read it over and over each night. They loved to chime in: "...and don't forget the bacon." It remained a part of our bedtime story ritual for many years. When my son entered kindergarten, he insisted on taking it to share with his class for show-and-tell. Although it is quite worn out now, I kept it as a keepsake with some of their other childhood books and toys. My daughter is now a freshman at the University of Illinois at, and my son is a freshman at Marian Catholic High School. This Friday, I will be presenting a workshop on Shared Reading as part of an inservice training for the teachers in my school district. I immediately thought of "Don't Forget the Bacon" as the perfect read aloud book. My son eagerly help me find it, curled up in my lap, and insisted that I read it! We shared many fond memories that night. After calling several book stores to get a new copy, I was delighted to find it on the WEB. I'm looking forward to receiving the new book, but I'll still treasure the $.25 copy (which I have to retape again!) because of the joy of reading it instilled in my children.
A classic in the making--one I will treasure always
Captivating, endlessly twirling thoughts, pictures and words into a work of literature, NOT a picture book. It changed me internally--and I will never forget the startling ending. A perfect example of "plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose", Don't Forget the Bacon is something that children and adults should read--if not treasure.
Good Night Owl (Predictable Big Book Series)

Wonderful graphics with a fun story about a sleepy owl.
With a toddler who is obsessed with owls, I found this a perfect book to read with her at bedtime. Not only does she enjoy seeing the owl on each page but the predicament he is in delights her. She has learned the names and sounds of other birds/animals/insects too! A very nice ending makes this a perfect book for 18 mo. and up.
Owl struggles to sleep through a noisy day in the tree.
A family favorite read-aloud! As Owl tries to sleep, his tree fills with noisy daytime creatures. Bees buzz, a squirrel cracks nuts, doves coo, a woodpecker pecks. Young children love to repeat the sounds of the various noisy neighbors in the rhythmic words of the book. When darkness finally falls, Owl springs a surprise!

Great math connection!
This book is a great introduction to a study about time. I read this book to my first grade class and it really made them think about the problem that was presented in this book. After a few minutes, most students were able to arrive at why the main character was having difficulty telling time. I would recommend this very funny story to any 1st or 2nd grade student.

It was very exciting and mysterious
It was one of the best books I've read in a long time. It was very funny and it was a type of mystery where as you read the book, you find more and more clues.

The first book I ever read...
This was the first full book I ever read at nursery school, aged three, and I have never forgotten it after 28 years! I'd recommend it to anyone with a keen young reader in the family - it will really appeal to an active imagination.

What friends are for
This is the first book my little daughter (3 years old) has borrowed from the school library. Only when I started reading it to her that I knew why she chose this particular one. Not only that the little visitor in this book looks very much like her, but that the story indeed echoes her much dear wish of having a very good friend of her own. I as an adult also enjoy this book very much. The two children are lovely. The story also reminds me of the fact that a best friend does not only set standard for you to keep up with, he or she will stand by you whenver you feel upset, frightened and frustrated.

teacher's point of view
This is an excellent story to read to children who are just beginning to decipher the code of letters, sounds and words. I read it to my primary classroom every year, and they always ask to hear more!

Picnic Fun for Everyone.....
Duck, Hen, and Goose are going on a picnic. "It's such a lovely day!" They fill their basket with their three favorite foods...berries for Hen, apples for Goose, and pears for Duck, and off they go. "Were going on a picnic!" they sang as they walked across the field." Now to find the perfect spot. This task seems to be harder than you'd think. None of the three can agree on the perfect place, and pretty soon three other forest friends, a mouse, a squirrel, and a rabbit are quietly following along. Each time our trio of friends sets the basket down, thinking they've found the perfect picnic spot, Mouse, Squirrel, or Rabbit jumps in, and eats some of their food. Finally, Hen, Duck, and Goose arrive back at their home. They haven't found a picnic spot, and for some "unknown" reason, their basket is very empty. Everything must have fallen out. What to do? Let's fill up the basket and "Off we go again..." Pat Hutchins has written a charming and amusing little treasure your kids will want to read again and again. Her spare, cheerful text is simple and repetitive, and begs to be read aloud. But it's her bright, colorful, and expressive illustrations that really steal the show. Youngsters will get a big kick out of watching the story unfold and being in on the secret, while their barnyard friends go on their merry way without a clue. Perfect for preschoolers, We're Going On A Picnic is a delight, and a wonderful addition to all home bookshelves.
