WHY THE CHIMES RANG
This is a truly endearing story about two young boys who dream of going to a special Christmas service at a somewhat distant church. It will take the boys all afternoon to walk to the church. Along the way they come upon a woman who has fallen in the snow and is in desperate need of help. The older brother stays with her and sends "Little Brother" on to the church for the Christmas service; afterwhich, he is to return with help. The Christmas Chimes in this church have not been heard for many years, but they will ring tonight. All because of two little boys, who in all of their innocence, truly understand about giving and Christmas.

Along the way they find a woman who has fallen in the snow in desperate need of help. The special Christmas Chimes in this church have not been heard for many years, but they will ring on this night. All because of two little boys who will help each of us remember what Christmas is really all about.

A fantastic story
I remember reading this when I was young--it belonged to my mother when she was a young girl--it has always been my favorite Christmas book, capturing the true meaning of Christmas and of giving in a simple yet rich and beautiful story. If I could have but one Christmas book this would be the one.

Helpful with a veteran population
Anger Management: The Complete Treatment Guidebook for Practitioners proved to be an excellent resource for teaching veterans anger management skills. The authors'Anger Episode Model clearly explains that anger does not "come out of the blue" but follows a clear sequence of cognitive appraisal, experience, and emotional expression. The inclusion of both short-term and long-term outcomes of anger expression highlight the notion that anger has long-term consequences on physical and emotional health as well as obvious short-term consequences. The sections on Fostering Cognitive Change and Forgiveness make this book unique and particularly helpful with this population. The inability to forgive self or others and an inflexible view of the world, if not addressed as part of an anger management model, can be a major obstacle in learning and applying anger management skills.

Designed to substantially assist professional psychologists
Collaboratively written by Howard Kassinove (Chairperson of the Psychology Department at Hofstra University) and Raymond Chip Tafrate (Associate Professor in the Criminology and Criminal Justice Department at Central Connecticut State University), Anger Management: The Complete Treatment Guidebook For Practitioners is a straightforward and thoroughly practical guide designed to substantially assist professional psychologists and caseworkers of all fields to help their patients and clients deal with a condition of unhealthy, counter-productive anger. Individual chapters address a model and plan to help people increase their awareness of anger and change their responses, and to police themselves to in order to maintain an emotionally healthier way of life. Anger Management is highly recommended reading for anyone charged with a professional responsibility to deal with and assist angry clients whether the setting is in private practice, an outpatient clinic, a hospital setting, or within the criminal justice system.

A Must for Grad Students and Practicing Psychologists
Is it possible for academically based clinical psychologists to produce a clinical treatise suitable for the trraining of clinical graduate students yet have equal value and meaning to experienced working clinicians? The answer is a strong yes! This has been achieved by our authors Howard Kassinove and Raymond Chip Tafrate in their excellent new work on anger management.

The work consists of six clearly written, practical guides to the understanding, treatment and management of clients' anger. They have even devoted a chapter to aid the therapist in dealing with his/her anger, a frequent occurrence when working in this difficult area.
The first section consists of four chapters dealing with basics: Anger, The Anger Episode Model, Assessment and Diagnosis, and an overview of the Anger Management Program. These chapters, unlike some practical presentations, presents issues with both experiential and research support with a strong sense of history as well.

In section two, three chapters deal with preparing the client for change. This is followed in section three with five chapters dealing with the process of change, including physical arousal, skills building, and new ways of problem solving. This is really the heart of the work and is presented with excellent examples and concrete steps for the therapist.

Chapters 13-15 work with the necessary cognitive component for anger management without which treatment may never reach completion. The final three chapters address relapse prevention, the therapist's anger, and finally, a sample treatment program.

All this is available at a very reasonable price in todays overpriced book market. The cost of 27.95(less through Amazon) is affordable for students and a valuable addition to the practitioner's library. I recommend it as a valuable guide to one of todays most vexing problems, the reduction and management of anger.

Great for ESL Students
I agree 100% with the ESOL instructor from Lawrenceburg, IN. I, too, am an ESL instructor, and this book is absolutely my best resource. Each unit is a self-contained lesson (if you want to use it that way), with an explanation and examples of the point being covered, followed by a page of exercises for student practice. It's very easy to use for in-class work, homework, student self study, and even pre-class review by the teacher. I love it!

Good for ESOL instructors
This text contains short lessons on at least a hundred common concepts in English, with straightforward, everyday examples.

In the appendix, there is the best-organized list of irregular verbs I've seen. The verbs are categorized according to their irregularity, so that the patterns can be studied. Each of my students has a copy that (s)he refers to often.

The Table of Contents is spectacular. Each topic is broken into several different units, which are each well-described. I find this organization particularly helpful when a student mentions (s)he is having trouble understanding, say, the use of the present progressive to express the future. I thumb through the contents, and in seconds, I know to show Unit 20. Especially helpful if you and the student don't know that it's called the present progressive, just that people say "I am playing tennis tomorrow." Waste no time flipping through the index of another book only to find it a dead-end.

Lastly, the sections on prepositions (which are so difficult to teach) are wonderful. We have teachers who won't use anything else and students who have found them very helpful.

An excellent english book for beginners to high intermediate
I'm using this book to teach my girlfriend English. She is from Brazil. This book is excellent, well structured, and progressive. The vocabulary its controlled. There are a lot of work with the verbs (to be), and (to have). The book also covers progressives and irregular past verb tenses.

BATTLEFIELD OF LIFE
I am the foster sister of Harry Lee Yeatts, who was the child given up for social services. We grew up in the same foster home and have always wondered where we came from and what our roots were like. By Mr. Yeatts writing this book, he is giving my brother an opportunity to discover his roots. It was so exciting to see Harry's name in print and for him to discover a brother out there. Thank you Mr. Raymond for being so honest in your book. Five stars to a real honest writer.

Best buy on the emotional impact of war on one warrior.
This powerful book reveals what goes on beneath the exploding surface of the battlefield. The author masterfully captures the sights, sounds, smells, tastes and feelings of a warscape and tugs at the reader to join the frantic ride. Every sentence incarcerates the helpless reader and stretches his emotional balloon to the bursting point. Thank you, Mr. Yeatts for taking me to the front lines. Although I've never been there, done that, I'll never again be able to shrug my shoulders mundanely at war. Yeatt's book should be required reading for every student seeking a military career. A five-star general couldn't do better.

very moving and insightful, heartwrenching, powerful & real
Mr. yeatts is an ordinary man with extraordinary power and strength, to actually realize that this is a very common story of many of the men who endured this tragedy of war and yet never speak of it. As Tom Jennings said of his book many of the men were reluctant to speak of their experiences of the war, it was like he had to pull it out of them . How fortunate are the children of Mr. yeatts to know first hand and to have him in their lives to hear him elaborate even in more details his experiences of this world event. He is deserving of the highest honors, May god bless you always Mr. Yeatts,

God Matters: Readings in the Philosophy of Religion
The selection of essays covers both classic and contemporary philosophy.

This would be an ideal choice for the "Average Jo" who wants to contribute to philosophy conversations.

While reading, you might find yourself having more confidence in some beliefs and re-thinking other beliefs.

"Philosophy... It separates humans from animals." - The Wise Old Owl.

Outstanding!
This book is state of the art and easily understood. The 18 orignal essays make sophisticated philosophy understandable.

Clear and Insightful!
This book takes difficult concepts and makes them relevant for both college students and lay persons. I thoroughly enjoyed the challenges it presented to my belief system and the growth I have experienced because of it. I strongly recommend it.

One book I don't hate to read over and over
I was surprised that this book had so few words in it - maybe that's what makes it so popular with my 3 year old and 20 month old! (Me, too!) The pictures are lively, Bert is built like a sausage with legs and red hair, and is as unthreatening and jolly a protagonist I've seen in children's books. The kids love having to say "Hallo" , then "Good night" to Bert and Mrs. Bert - and the beginning and end, when they are instructed to turn thepage very, very quietly, so as not to wake baby Bert - then find baby Bert yelling "Waaaaaa" on the next page - "Now look what you've done!" - hysterical every time. They start snorting and chuckling before I've even turned the page. This book is a surprise favorite. I'm very glad I bought it as I was disappointed at first it was so short - it's silly, happy, and delightful and I would advise anyone who has a 1 - 4 year old to buy it.

a fun adventure
A great first "chapter book". The book is interactive with places to say hello & goodnight to the characters. My son laughs out loud in several places. The artwork is really fun.

We love it!
My 4 year old son and I don't tire of this book.

It is light and funny. It is short enough to be a quick "bedtime" read. And my son is totally captivated by the 2 places where you have to "turn the page very quietly, or else you'll wake up the baby"...... He still gets a huge kick out of it, even though he is now almost 5 years old and we have read the book dozens of time.

You won't regret spending [price] for this prize!

the best book for infants!
I've been reading this book to my son since he was a month old. He absolutely loves this book! It has great pictures and the poem is very catchy--I sometimes recite it to him and he'll look around for the book. He always laughs at the end when the bee "zooms away!"

love it!
My daughter is nine months old and this is one of her favorite books! We love the pictures and the rhymes. We've had this book for 2 months now and she still loves it.

An Adorable Book for Your Adorable Baby
My seven month old daughter gives this book her full attention. She giggles and smiles every time I read it to her. It kept her interest for five consecutive readings! As for the poem and unique illustrations, they are contagious! I think parents will enjoy the book just as much as baby.

Great Book, but Check Author's Web Site for Corrections
I just finished a semester with this book. Loved it! I didn't think I'd every say that about a textbook, but this one really makes it easy to remember the material. It does so by quizzing you at the end of every section instead of just waiting until the end of the chapter. I found that it significantly improved my retention rate.

I will however caution you that there are errors present in many of the chapters. The errors I came across looked like they were mainly due to poor editing and validation of the technical material. I STRONGLY recommend that you go to the author's web site as he quickly posts any and all corrections by chapter.

For ... dollars, you'd think that the book's publisher, Prentice Hall, would have reviewed the book a bit more thoroughly before publication.

Errors aside, this is a great book that will mostly likely improve further with the next edition.

Great Book, using in my PSU networking class
This book is great, it starts from the beginning of the networking age and goes through all the newest technologies and ideas about networking. Covers the business aspects of networking, wireless, how TCP/IP works and pretty muct the 802 standars. Book covers everything, this is one book I won't be selling back. A really good reference book for the basics of networking and rules to follow as well when getting into the networking field.

Great book -- clearly written by a Teacher
Not only does this book cover network essentials, it is presented in a way that actually promotes learning (!) While this may seem an obvious goal, the author of this book clearly puts great effort into presenting the information in a meaningful way (most books on this subject lack this care). I'd highly recommend this to students, or even to practicioners who would like a refresher or general reference on data communications.

Informative and easy to read!
Brown's work is much easier to read than many other books in this genre. He allows for exploration of different ideas and one need not have a PhD to learn a great deal from this book.

After Twenty Years, Still an Important Work!
Have you ever purchased a book that seemed promising in regard to helping you understand the Bible, but when it came it was either far too simplistic or just over your head? For most readers, this book provides insight and commentary that will avoid both pitfalls.

Using the uncommon characteristics of the Fourth Gospel, Raymond Brown laid out in this readable volume his theories of why this account of the gospel is so unique. With accompanying charts that lay out the various groups which may have composed the "Community of the Beloved Disciple," Brown makes his theory especially easy to grasp.

Losing Raymond Brown was a great loss for the entire Christian Church. Having heard him speak in person and having read many of his works, I strongly urge this particular volume upon you if you have an interest in the Fourth Gospel.

Brown is big
In 1965 Father Brown published his great magisterial two volume commentary on the Gospel of John in which he advocated the traditional view the John the son of Zebedee was the evangelist. In 1965 J. Louis Martyn published his monumental work "History and Theology in the Fourth Gospel," wherein he proved, once and for all, that John the son of Zebedee could not be the evangelist. Now what would be Brown's reaction? This is it. He simply admitted that he was wrong and builds on Martyn's work in this marvelous book. Hopefully you can also read Martyn's book with this one, but this one alone will give you a glimpse into a first century religious community.

Don't walk into a dealership unprepared.
I keep this book as a reference in my personal library. The invoice formulas are very helpful.
I walked into the Mercedes-Benz dealership knowing the maximum amount I was going to spend for a C230 Kompressor in July 2000, that's empowerment.
I want to sell this car and get a 2003, E320 or E500. I checked the Kelly's Blue Book and my car's valuation is $1800 higher (before taxes) than what I paid for it 2 years ago! I expect to just about break even when I sell my current car in August.
A negative note: The author is very repetative and (in every chapter) he constantly reminds you that all car salesmen are the lowest form of theives. I can put up with that, though, because the book worked for me. It's better than walking into a showroom naïve and unprepared.

Don't Buy a Car Until You Read This Book!
I purchased a car where the saleman made $4 on the car. I used this same strategy to purchase a used car. About a month after I brought the car, it was totaled. I received about $300 more from the insurance company than I paid for the car! This book is excellent. This is probably the 5th or 6th time I've purchased this book. Everytime I hear someone is buying a car, I have to lend it to them (although I'm obviously not good at following up to get my book back). However, I don't regret one dime I've spent on this book. I'm about to buy it again because I'm getting ready to purchase another car and want to refresh! Take my advice -- DON'T BUY A CAR WITHOUT THIS BOOK.

Valuable resource, excellent.
The advice given in this book helped me save thousands on my new car purchase. Dr. Sachs gives readers the inside information to sucessfully navigate the dangerous and stressfull world of car buying. For the first time, I don't feel like I was ripped off by a dealer. Don't buy a car without reading this book.
