Enjoyable Cold War Spy Tale
It's 1958 and a drunken Chairmen Khrushchev has just quoted verbatum from the top secret minutes of the National Security Council to President Eisenhower. Thus ensues an operation to find the KGB mole. The search takes our hero, CIA agent Blackford Oakes, to Germany, past the iron curtain into East Berlin.

So, how does Blacky come to find his U-2 experiencing an unrecoverable flameout over the USSR? Will he leave Lubyanka prison alive?

The suspense is wonderfully woven in this tale of suave, hansome and daring Blackford Oakes. I hated to put this one down. The ending is cleaver and unmistakably Buckley. This is a fun read.

An enjoyable trip down memory lane.
I took to this book very quickly as the descriptions that the author gave of growing up in Cork were right on the money. I found myself walking with him, having spent some time in Cork I could vividly picture the city. I also felt as though I knew the people that he spoke of in the book. I found it to be a pleasant trip back to Cork, as well as a well written story.

The Reality of Community Policing
Ed Reed examined the rhetoric versus the reality of community policing in Seattle BEFORE the World Trade Organization fiasco exposed it to the world. He has also got important things to say about community policing generally. This is a book that deserves a wide audience.

Excellant companion book for practice development
This book is written in an accessible and practical format. It assumes nothing but at the same time treats the reader as an intelligent participant on the journey to understanding evidence based practice.

It is up to date and I was especially impressed with the web address it gives to ensure the reader is kept abreast of any changes since publication.

It systematically explains the need and use of 'evidence', how to find it (the search advice is comprehensive and includes details such as search terms and the best search engines aswell as web addresses) how to evaluate it and also how to act on it.

All in all this book was great, and I would reccomend it to anyone involved in evidence based healthcare practice as it will guide you through the thorniest problems.

Amazon base price: $52.95

Excellent Introductory Text
This book was required for the Physical Therapy course at my Chiropractic college. I found it easy to read and informative. One of its strongest points is the redundancy of information. Though some might not agree, the fact that the authors reintroduced the same information in different contexts throughout the book reinforced learning without constant backtracking.

An excellent text for the library of any helth professional interested in PT and a good primer for those who refer patients out.

Who the Hell Is William Loeb?
Published in Hardcover by Amoskeag Pub Co (1976)
Author: Kevin Cash
Amazon base price: $8.95
Used price: $0.43
Collectible price: $6.99
Average review score:

A critical look at thirty years of William Loeb's newspaper.
A scathing chronicle of William and Nackey Loeb's tenure at the Manchester Union-Leader, New Hampshire's largest newspaper. The only paper with statewide circulation, Loeb took advantage of his monopoly to become a spoiler in national politics. The book covers Loeb's acquisition of the paper, its mismanagement, his adulterous affair with Scripps-Howard heiress Nackey Gallowhur, and the use of the paper for their personal vendettas. Sadly it's a little outdated since William died c. 1980 and it doesn't cover Nackey's involvement of the paper in Pat Buchanan's presidential campaigns in the 1990's. Still, it's still a bold critique, especially when you consider it was written at a time when Loeb had virtual blacklist power in the state.
