Reverse order?!
I really liked both stories...but then I am a devoted reader of Linda Howard. They only reason I will not give this a 5 star rating is the fact that the editor put the stories out of order. Read Lady of the West FIRST. Since there is a character that first appears here and then again later in time in Angel Creek.

Both stories are quick and totally engrossing reads. Once you start it is hard to put them down.

Enjoy!

Clever and Complete Research Design-Brilliant Work!
New to the statistical and methodological side of research in psychology I found this book a little difficult. That said, it was understandable. Clearly, the researchers were "standing on the shoulders of their forefathers" and at the same time engineering a piece of research which will make you (especially you non-psychoanalytics) think twice about the reality of a human unconscious. This validating piece of work will be of interest to advanced psychology and counseling theory students and researchers. One can skim the studies and get the gist of the design, procedures and results.

my son LOVES this book
My 12-month old loves to push this book around because the wheels make noise as they turn. The text is cute, but the actual book is a little difficult to maneuver since the pages slide rather than turn. It makes a great pull toy though!

I had already read the book before and just wanted it for my own. The 3 stories in the book are decent. Of course, my favorite was the one by Linda Howard.

Vintage Howard - always a good read!
The heartbreaker of the title is a perfect Howard hero - John Rafferty, big, handsome, quite arrogant, and a "my way or the highway" kind of guy. The heroine, Michelle Cabot, is another typical Howard creation, a woman who's abilities are seriously misjudged by the hero, who looks at her with his hormones not his heart! These two make a splendid pair, and their romance kept me spellbound - even though I am not particularly fond of a plot which involves abuse and stalking themes. Linda Howard's dynamic writing style and wonderfully sensual love scenes dominate this tale of courage and discovery - I very much enjoyed it, and didn't realize until toward the end that it was indeed a continuation of Diamond Bay. It goes with the rest of the Linda Howards on my keeper shelf.

Typical older Linda Howard...but GOOD!
HEARTBREAKER was one Linda Howard book I had not read yet and I have been anxiously awaiting its re-release. Although not a stellar written book, it was one that once I got into it, could not put down.

The storyline is this: Michelle Cabot has returned to her now deceased father's rundown ranch to try and salvage it. John Rafferty is her next door neighbor and her nemesis. Each think they know about the other and their opinions are not high of one another.
Michelle is trying to rebuild her life after a failed marriage to an abusive man. To help do this, she wants to make a success of the ranch. Enter John, who thinks she cannot. This is the basis for this book, and one that has been told many times by other authors, but one that Linda Howard can tell well.
Like many of her heroes, John is an alpha male extraordinaire and Michelle is the heroine who seems weak, but is really quite overpowering to the hero and it is fun watching him falling in love with her...hard.

I thought the story started out slow, but once I got into reading it, I could not put the book down! It has it all: love, romance, suspense, colorful characters and of course, steamy lovemaking scenes that typify Linda Howard. HEARTBREAKER is not her best work, but if you enjoy her writing as much as I do, not one to miss.

Note: this book goes along with Diamond Bay, Midnight Rainbow and White Lies. Although it is not necessary to have read the other books, the characters from Diamond Bay are mentioned.

Sandra Brown writing as Linda Howard
The four star rating is well earned: for sympathetic characters, bright-hot attraction between Michelle and John, and generally good writing. But it doesn't sound like the Linda Howard of Dream Man, Heart of Fire, After the Night, Now You See Her. Linda has spoiled her reading audience with stories that are compelling and believable even when they're, well, unbelievable (Now You See Her, Dream Man, Son of the Morning).

Thank goodness "Heartbreaker" is not one of those romances where there is such tension between the couple that they are suspicious and hateful halfway through the book. John and Michelle are cautious, each more in love with the other than he or she is comfortable confessing. So why don't they act like lovers, or even friends, in a crisis? They keep dumb stuff from each other, are unwilling to confide. That helps drive the plot, but it makes the characters feel wooden. This might be a novel worth reworking in a few years.

Between John and Michelle there is passion, affection, and eventually trust. Worth reading even if you do keep turning to the front cover to make sure it's Linda Howard.

Cute, but lacks the substance of a Linda Howard book
I've probably read every book Linda Howard has written. She's always been one of those authors that I automatically buy without reading about the plot or checking other people's opinion. This was a "cute" story, but it lacked in-depth character development and history. I think she spent the majority of her time trying to write funny or clever passages. I wasn't expecting 336 pages of cute. Actually, the first passage in the book (which is about a Mexican girl of 17 crossing the border illegally to start a new life in the US) is more of what I was expecting. I cared more about this girl than I did about the main character. That's not to say that cute and funny make for a bad book - but it's less than I expect from Linda Howard. If you look at some of her better books (Mackenzie's Mountain, Sara's Child, All the Queen's Men) you will find a lot more to the main characters than you will find in the characters in this book. This book is worth borrowing from someone or waiting for the paperback. It is not worth the hardback price.

CAPTIVATING
This book was excellent, I could not hardly put it down. I recommend this and other books by Linda Howard. She is an excellent writer and this book was no exception. The main character is naive but strong. Smart yet weak and it all comes together nicely

A MUST READ
This book was fun while offering a great mystery.

Disturbing
The first Linda Howard book I read was All The Queen's Men, and since then I have read almost all of her earlier and later work. She writes sensual stories, erotic, passionate, usually great character development. I was disturbed by this book in many ways that I haven't been in reading some of her other work. This hero is abusive, emotionally and physically to the heroine and that I just cannot abide. Many of her characters from other books are certainly flawed, like most real people are, but this I just couldn't take and I couldn't finish it.

Have read better...
I have recently developed a serious crush for Linda Howard books, but this one was rather disappointing. My overall impression was that it all seemed very barbaric. All male characters treat women like possessions and the hero is no different. I refuse to go with the idea that sex, no matter how great, solves all problems and heals all wounds. The tragic events were sad, but very flat, and the book ended without a proper heart-to-heart conversation between the two main characters. Realistic maybe, but not what I wanted.

EXCELLENT!!
I love Linda Howard's books. This book had everything: tears, love, fighting and more. I loved it!!!

Reprints not a problem
I had no problem with the fact that these stories were reprints. I had only read one of the stories previously and the price was not bad for a hardcover. I like Linda Howard and I would like to see something new from her, BUT I don't mind reading older books that are being reprinted. Everyone knows that this is a big trend with publishers now, so check the book out before you buy it. If you have read it and don't want to again then don't buy it, but if, like me, you haven't read ALL the old titles of your fav authors then be glad that you get the chance to now.

Beware
As other reviewers have mentioned, the 3 stories that have been previously released. The stories are good, hence the 4-star rating. For loyal readers of Linda Howard, however, the book will come as a disapointment as they'll surely have read these stories before. While I don't mind reprints if I know that is what they are, the fact that this book was originally promoted as *new* was extremely misleading.

Not quite up to Ms. Howard's usually quality
These three short stories are great little stories. However, they aren't of the supreme quality that I have come to expect from Ms. Howard. I would still recommend them because they are better than half the romances out there, but they seem disappointing when compared with "Shades of Twilight" and "Mr. Perfect."

Come Lie with Me

An Early Linda Howard- for fans
For Linda Howard fans, this book is a good read. It is not as complex or as in depth as some of her later works, but you can see her writing potential.

This story is about Blake- a successful businessman who is paralyzed after an accident. Due to this injury, he has lost his zest for life, until a beautiful Physical therapist (dione) comes into his life to make him live again. She of course has her own past troubles to contend with and their journey to come together is what drives this story.

Come Lie with Me is a shorter novel and can be read in 1 day- the plot is alittle too similar to some other stories out there (most notably Adam's Fall by s. Brown) and the plot is a little predictable. But most Linda Howard fans will enjoy this story.

Early but Good Howard!
I am a big fan of Linda Howard. Her new books are some of my favorite. Her earlier books though usually are not that good. I am happy to say that Come Lie With Me is an exception. I really enjoyed the story and characters. If you keep in mind that this an earlier book with all the same types of somewhat unrealistic plot developments and weaker female characters, you can get a very enjoyable read out of it.

Early Linda Howard stuff! -- It's a fast/quick read.
The story line is reminicent to Sandra Brown's story,Adam's Fall.

Blake Remington is a successful businessman who ends up paralyzed after a mountain climbing accident. Dione Kelly, a physical therapist, is hired by the family as a last ditch effort to work with Blake; he has given up his will to live 2 years after the accident. Story starts from that point & blooms into the romance between these two. Blake is physically impared; Dione is emotionally impaired from childhood & marital abuse. They heal each other & teach each other to live/love again.

I read the book in 1 day - fast & easy read. As always, good story/quality from Linda Howard.

The ONLY Linda Howard book I've ever hated!!!
I love Linda Howard. I wait for every book she has coming out and grab them up as soon as they are on the shelf. But Sarah's Child....well, let's just say that I was pulling for Max and Sarah to get together and for Sarah to dump Rome right where she found him! Rome meets Sarah first, looks right over her and marries her best friend and proceeds to have two children with her. Sarah, who was really a very wimpy person but I liked her anyway, has always loved Rome. Now, Rome's wife and children are killed in an accident and he gets involved with Sarah because he's always been attracted to her. They marry, he visits her room for sex and then pratically leaves money on the table before returning to his room to sleep. Sarah accidently gets pregnant and Rome asks her to get an abortion because he doesn't want anymore children to replace his children who have died. I picked this book up in the store because it had Linda Howard's name on it but I hated it. I hated Rome. The story really bothered me that he met Sarah first but went for her best friend. I never got over the feeling that Sarah was second best so starting from the first chapter I was waiting for LH to change my mind but it never came. When I read a romance book I'm looking for a story that leaves me feeling good but this book left me frustrated. I normally keep a copy of each of LH's books that come out but this one is heading right for the yard sale table!!

My favorite Linda Howard book
Sarah's Child is touching and sexy. Sarah is likeable because she's intelligent and has interests besides getting married and having kids. I found it a little hard to believe that she was a virgin at her age and with her looks, but oh well, I guess that's forgivable. She has been in love with Rome since she met him but he was married to her closest friend. Then a car accident kills the friend and his two kids and he goes through a lot of trauma, grief. He says he doesn't want children anymore even though he knows Sarah might want kids sometime. They get together and she eventually gets pregnant. It's kind of a rite of passage thing for Rome. A warm, funny story about love that's perfect for a rainy day and a fireplace.

Sarah's Child
This has got to be one of my favarite Linda
Howard books, and I have read them all! Sarah is
a strong and loving character. Rome is a hard man to love because of his past and hurts Sarah with his harshness. Sarah stands by him and loves him until he comes to realize life is worth living again. Sarah is no push over in this book though. When left with the choice of Rome or her child. She makes the choice of her child without a second thought. For those who love a book with deeper meaning that will touch your heart this is that book!
