Regan Delaney just needed to regroup, get her personal life under control, after her husband left her for another woman. The last thing she expected to find in the lonely little cabin was a tall, exhausted firefighter but his presence soothed the panic that had been building inside her since she discovered that she'd been cut off from safety by the forest fire.
As they hike through the forest toward safety, these two characters begin a journey of trust and love. Neither of them have had easy lives and Jake's has been tougher than most. Ms. Riggs always writes powerful characters who have to surmount incredible odds before they can find love. A wonderful story!

LH did borrow a few ideas - mainlt, I think, from Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade and Iris Johansen"s The Lion King but neither were as sexy and as informative as Son of the Morning . And the manipulation of the Time travel theme creating a sort of circle in time was also great (even though the Hitler idea which crops up in the end seems a bit of an afterthought). One thing which this book has left me with is a hunger to know more about the Knight Templars. I'm Maltese and have heard a lot about hte Knights of St. John (a.k.a. the Knights of Malta) but I have to admit that I used to believe that the Knights Templar was just another name for the Knights of Malta

Wouldn't it be great if Linda Howard wrote a sequel? I'm sure all of her fans would love to see how Grace and Niall are faring in Scotland's 13th century. Don't you just love that accent?
Son of the Morning has everything: time-travel, action, adventure, steamy love scenes, bloody 13th century battles. All of her character's are colorful and realistic, right down to Grace's street-smart friend, Harmony.
Linda Howard made me an addict, I've read almost all of her many many novels, and won't stop until I've read them all. YOU'VE GOT TO READ THIS BOOK!!

Once I read the first few pages I was hooked on this book. For those of you not familiar with the Outlander series it's a time-travel Scottish romance and Son of the Morning is also a time-travel Scottish romance. That is where the similarity ends because Linda Howard has written a book that stands on it's own merit.
The main character is a woman, Grace St. John, who translates ancient manuscripts for Parrish Sawyer the head of an archaeological foundation. Grace is currently translating documents from the 14th century concerning a group of monks called the Knights of the Templar and their mysterious treasure. They were monks but they were also warriors, the best and most fierce warriors in the land. Thus far Grace has translated enough of the documents to know that King Philip and Pope Clement executed and tortured many of the Knights of the Templar in 1307 to find and gain control of their gold and the legendary treasure. The Grand Master of the Knights ordains that the best warrior of the Order, Niall of Scotland, will watch over and protect the treasures. Niall, or Black Niall as he is called, establishes a strong hold in Creag Dhu, a castle in Scotland to hide and protect the treasure and he is known as The Guardian.
Grace's life suddenly and violently changes when she witnesses Parrish Sawyer murder her husband Ford and her brother Bryant. She over hears Sawyer's plan to find and murder her as well to get the documents she is translating. Grace begins a year of running for her life from Parrish Sawyer and his hired assassins. While Grace is struggling to survive in the street and hide from her pursuers she knows she must finish translating the documents so she can discover what is in them that Sawyer was willing to kill for. Grace goes through a major transformation while she is in hiding and struggling to survive.
After Grace completes the translation and learns the secret of the documents she knows she must travel back in time to the 14th century to Creag Dhu and Niall of Scotland in order to stop the Foundation from finding the secret treasure and using it for their evil ends. Since time travel was one of the secret powers of the Knights of the Templar, the documents contained detail instructions on how to travel back in time.
I literally could not put this book down. It's exciting, intriguing and adventurous. The reader is taken back and forth between the 14th century with Niall and present day with Grace's hair-raising narrow escapes from the killers.
I highly recommend Son of the Morning to anyone who enjoys time travel stories, adventure, and romance. And especially to readers who are fans of the Outlander series, I promise you'll love this book!

After six years of freedom from the "knowing", Marlie is chagrined to find that it - her clairvoyant empathy - has returned. A few days after she has a graphic and disturbing vision of a murder, she decides to go to the Orlando police to assist them in finding the killer.
Detective Dane Hollister doesn't believe a word that the woman with the compelling blue eyes tells him. But he knows that somehow Marlie knows exactly what she's talking about. He also knows that the feeling that overcomes him whenever the psychic is near is too strong to ignore.
After getting off to a rocky start and trying to deny a wild attraction, Dane and Marlie try to work together to find the Orlando Slasher and to figure out what's going on whenever they're in the same room.
Ms. Howard deserves commmendations for writing such an excellent story. I loved the scenes between Dane and Marlie, especially what each one went through as feelings were revealed. I highly recommend this novel for anyone who loves romantic suspense.

The plot is very clever and the main character's are compelling. Dane is most women's 'dream man' even though at first he isn't Marcie's! I loved this book because the plot line was brilliant, the sex scenes were steamy, it was exciting, romantic - everything a woman could want!
I would highly recommend it to anyone who is thinking about reading a Linda Howard novel or for those who are already fans this one is a definite 'keeper'.

I personnally LOVE this book. Gray Rouillard is in my top 3 Linda Howard heroes. ... An alpha male at his worst (or best). The man is rich, powerfull in his town, he has reasons to hate the Devlins. The night that gives the book it`s title is an act of utter cruelty. BUT if you read carefully, from the very beginning, Faith and Gray have the only «normal» relashionship between the protagonists. Both their personnalities are shaped by the lies, the deceit, the attitude of their families and their town. Believe me, small towns could drive you too over the edge.
I`ll agree with those reviewers who said this book is not for the weak. It`s an intense love story with not punches pulled. And Linda Howard goes there with a vengeance. That also makes it one great romance by a great writer, so take a chance. Trust me.

Anti-terrorist agent Chance MacKenzie has been trying to get to the infamous terrorist Cripsin Hauer for what seems like forever. When Chance discovers he has a daughter--Sunny Miller--he sets his sights on seducing her, figuring she can lure Hauer to him. What he doesn't know at the time, is that Sunny has been on the run from her father since birth...
The book was a typical Howard in that it was fast-paced and sexy. The only reason I didn't give the book a solid five was because it was reminiscent in some ways of her early categories from the 80s...in other words, the hero infuriated me by his use of Sunny, going so far as to knowingly put her life in dire straights, even AFTER he knew of her innocence. I don't feel the reader was given enough "good" chapters at the end to completely balance out what Chance did to Sunny enough to get totally over that fact.
It's common for Howard to use a misunderstanding between the characters in her books, or even an out-and-out usage of the heroine on the part of the hero, and let's face it...they make excellent premises for a hot getting-back-together scene toward the end. But this is the first time I can think of where she had a hero use a heroine to the point of putting her in a position where he purposely endangered her LIFE. If an author's going to do that, I want to read major big-time, mind-blowing grovelling scenes before the heroine forgives him.
Nevertheless, A Game of Chance was a great read. Chance was sexy with a capital SEX (one of Sunny's lines in the book!) and Sunny made a great, independent heroine for the most part. Still, in retrospect, I find myself more likely to reread MacKenzie's Mountain and MacKenzie's Pleasure, Wolf and Zane's stories.
