Log Cabins and Cottages-Reviewed
Originally published in 1920, this tiny book has numerous drawings of cabins in the Adirondack style. The first 45 pages discuss how to build log cabin furniture and simple brush camp and lean-to structures. Pages 46-47 introduce the more extensive cabins. You'll find structures measuring 12 x 16 feet to chalets that function as inns for many weary travelers. Drawings are pen and ink and show mostly exteriors. The interior drawings that are shown are interesting, showing fireplaces, stairways, furniture, and beamed ceilings. If you love adirondack style cabins/cottages this book will help to feed your imagination. If you were hoping to look at floor plans... get out your magnifying glass. Most of the floor plans are no more than 2 inches square. I still love this little book and refer back to it all the time. It would be a nice addition to your collection of log cabin books.

Lots of good ideas
Let's face it. There just aren't many machine embroidery books from which to choose. For the price, this one is darn good. It is geared towards free motion embroidery so it is suitable for all models of sewing machines. It features 25 projects that are well explained and plenty of full color photographs. The projects include jewelery, accessories, and clothing for the most part - all with a very modern look. No heirloom or hand embroidery look alikes. Everthing very proudly says I am a unique machine work of art.

An excellent book for anyone interested in the art of waterfowl painting. Great detail pictures will help you get a true-to-life look. The love of waterfowling extends thoughout the entire Veasey family and continues today with Bill's son Michael Veasey and his wife Susan. Michael, a third generation carver, continues to produce the award winning work passed down from his father. ....

William Morris Tiles: The Tile Designs of Morris and His Fellow-Workers
Published in Hardcover by Antique Collectors Club (1996)
Authors: Richard Myers and Hilary Myers
Amazon base price: $80.00

Showcase the "art" in Arts & Crafts Tile
The authors take their experience in British tile and present an indepth analysis of the work of William Morris. Although well-known for his other products, the authors bring the overshadowed tile work to light in text and pictures.

Although collectors will not be able to add most of the picturend pieces to their collection, the book can be. Unlike many books geared toward collectors, this book showcases many installation, many of which are in abbeys, and English manor homes. It is definitely not a "my collection book."

The indepth analysis of the artists who worked for Wm Morris should hold some information to even knowledgeable collectors

Women's Wear of the 1920's: With Complete Patterns
Published in Hardcover by Players Press (1998)
Authors: Ruth Countryman, Elizabeth Weiss Hopper, and William-Alan Landes
Amazon base price: $57.00

Practical history
This book provides patterns and (very) basic instructions for constructing authentic fashions of the 1920's, made using original everyday garments. The patterns are on regular book pages printed on a grid. To use them one can either draw them out on bigger grid paper, or do what I did and take them to a copy center and blow them up on the oversize copier. This book is not for the novice sewer, but for someone with experience who wants a truly authentic 1920's look, you can't do better.

In a word, this book STINKS
I should've heeded the advice of other reviewers. "Beginners" nothing! This book is wonderful if you have a degree in commercial arts, apparently as much money to spending on gift wrap as the gift, and infinite time to spend wrapping the presents.

The book opens with three pages on how to wrap an ordinary rectangular gift in ordinary fashion. After that, you're on your own for instructions as this book whizzes by at the speed of light! It shows you pretty pictures and offers perhaps four sentences each on how to duplicate them.

One gift actually suggestes pliars and wire cutters to wrap thick wire around the present...is this something for the author's ex? How is the recipient supposed to OPEN the darn thing? ;)

There are two good projects described in here, and I'll describe them both. Get a paint pen and write the recipient's name on an old fashioned large Christmas bulb. Wrap pipe cleaner around the metal end of the bulb and make a curly-q out of it. Looks cute! Second project: Just make the curly-q's out of the pipe cleaner in lots of colors.

If you have infinite resources of money, time, patience, and nothing better to do than spend several hours wrapping one present, this book is for you...in which case I've got a lovely mint condition used copy waiting for you. ;) But if you're looking for clever ideas for gift wrap and some solid instructions, pass up this book in favor of its monetary equivilent in wrapping supplies to experiment with on your own.

Few new ideas
Sorry, but I do not agree with the reviews of the other two customers (I chose the book due to these comments!). I received this title last week and I want to sent it back now. I do no find new ideas there. Morever, the instructons are not clear (so beginners, avoid it!) I have bought other books with line-drawings (or photos) explaining the techniques. This book has no more than 6 (perhaps fewer?) line-drawings. There's a part of the book, the one of stamping, that is more interesting than the others, but naturally, I have not bought the book for just one chapter. It does not worth it. I have other books as "Card Crafting", "Greeting Cards with Priscilla Presley", Origami, which are really useful.

This book is great!
I can't believe people gave 1 and 2 stars to this book! I own the hardcover edition - it was a bit pricey, but after browsing through it a few times in a bookstore I decided I wanted it for my birthday present - it's so good!
There are a lot of great ideas in the book. They are also inspiring - by looking at the photos I get many ideas of my own. And not all the projects there are difficult to make as some reviewers said.
I own about a dozen books on gift wrapping and gift giving and this one is definitely among the top five.

basketwork: new crafts
This book is truley a beginner book. VERY beginner. Since I have had a little expirience, I am always looking for new patterns and ideas. The instructions are clear and helpful for someone who has never woven before. So if you are just interested in a very basic, in and out, got to start somewhere course, this book is for you. Basketwork is beautifully illustrated with very clear instructions and a pretty wide range of projects. However, many of the projects would fall more into the catagory of "crafts" rather than "basketmaking"; like the fish mobile and a wreath. I feel like a better beginner book for someone who is interested in mainly making baskets, is Lynn Silers`, The Basket Book. Still, I think this book is a nice addition to a collection and is beautiful enough to put out on the coffe table.

Interesting & unique bakets
This book has very easy to moderately complex patterns for baskets made of reed & willow. The discussion of different basketry materials is especially good.

Building a Working Model Warship: Hms Warrior 1860

Not what the title leads you to expect
When this book came out, I bought it right away. I was very disappointed- this book is not what the title lead me to expect. Chapters 1 -11 are about building a very precise scale model of Warrior. Chapter 12 is about ballasting the model, and a short epilogue covers launching and sailing. The author's craftmansship and technique is superb, but if you already have a book or two on shipmodelling skills, you'll probably find this material redundant. There is nothing about using a sail control unit to control the square sails. I know how to build static ship models, I wanted info about building a working model. This book does not deliver on the promise of the title! As a display model building book, I'd give it 5 stars, but as a sailing model book, it gets 1 star-- that averages out to 3!

A good book about an excellent model
Being involved in a simular project, I looked for, and found much useful information here, There were some things that were less detailed than I would have liked, otherwise, the book will inspire anyone contemplating such a project. The author's craftmanship is fantastic. $10 less and I'd have given it 5 stars.
