Robert Ballard: Ocenaographer Who Discovered the Titanic
Nice brief chapters sum up important aspects of Ballards life. Starting the book out with the discovery of the Titanic gives it an exciting feel that most biographies dont't have. It contains good black and white illustrations and I will recommend it for 4th grade through the 9th grade.

It really is true...and it definately lives up to it's claim
I would've considered myself to have an above-average memory before reading this book. Although I couldn't remember absolutely EVERYTHING I needed to, I got by. When you pick up this book you can take a few tests that show how poor your current memory really is. Then it makes seemingly impossible claims like being able to memorize lists of hundreds of words/numbers, license plates, anyone's name, decks of cards, and books word-for-word. But when you continue reading...and it's not a very big book at all..you start to learn its fairly simple system of relating memory to pictures, and using your own photographic memory. Within a few weeks I learned and applied the techniques and I can amaze anyone. Trust me, you will definately not be disapointed!

Covers the man, his work, and hunting in Africa
A View From A Tall Hill is an outstanding, unique selection for any avid reader of safari hunting material in general and for those already familiar with Robert Ruark's safari writings in particular. Ruark was an author, columnist, and hunter in the latter 20th century: though his career lasted less than fifteen years, he traveled extensively throughout Africa and produced newspaper reports which enlightened the world. His biography covers the man, his work, and the special attractions of hunting in Africa. Lively and revealing.

Out of Print?
I can't believe this book isn't available. I loved every minute spent with it. Robert Pyle is scientist and poet and he writes about the Willapa Hills with the same love I feel for the Oregon coast - also overlogged and abused but beautiful nonetheless. He teaches and shows how to look in new ways. Fantastic!

Informative & Unique Read
Because I considered myself sophisticated about beauty and fashion, I was skeptical of yet another book written by a cosmetic surgeon. But the cover photos impressed me enough to get into it and by the end of the first four chapters ( which deal mainly with doctor qualification and training), I realized I did not know as much as I thought I did or should know. The book expanded my knowledge. By the last chapter I knew this book is unique and way ahead of other cosmetic surgery books. My advice: compare books on cosmetic surgery before you buy any. I suspect you will then buy this one.

Great Advice
I took advantage of the free download of the first chapter and frankly was quite taken by it. Probably the most impressive segment was Dr. Kotler's explanation of why some celebs look so terrible after cosmetic surgery. I always wondered why rich, famous people had these poor results. The explanation made sense; I never would have figured it out. That was enough of a tip-off that the book had value and that I needed to learn more before starting my own research process. I got what I bargained for and more. Including some ideas about to how save money-but without taking safety risks. Now, I am more confident that I can do a better job of deciding which doctor to select.

The Studs Terkel of Cosmetic Surgery
Three cheers and two thumbs up for Dr. Bob for doing such a fine job of demystifying cosmetic surgery. Very readible, with ample good humor and loads of common sense. It's obviously no coincidence that Bob and Studs both grew up in Chicago.

Blood and Money

Excellent Writer, and a Can't put it Down Book. 2/22/99
Sad, but true this wonderful writer Thomas Thompson is gone, he died of (I believe) liver cancer, but this book is the best written book of a story so eerie and scarie, how this doctor could do the evil things he did. I have this copy and I have never loan it to anyone, (but once) to a very good friend, who doesn't even like murder mysteries, but I knew she would love this one! It even more bizarre because its true.l Try to find a copy - you will be hooked and want to read more by this author.

Blood and Money
'Blood and Money' is just about the best book I have ever read regarding true crime. I am an avid Ann Rule fan but Tommy Thompson's tale of murder(s)in Texas was spellbinding. I have read this book probably 20 times and will read it again and again. This book was the best purchase I have ever made at a used book store.

Hard to put down!
I read this book about a year ago, it still haunts me. I just found Prescription Murder in the used book store and though its another perspective of what happened, nothing can compare with Thomas Thompsons skill and in depth version of the events. It's trully sad to have lost such a great true crime writer.

Another great book by Robert Morgan
I loved reading Gap Creek so when I saw The Truest Pleasure on the shelf I decided to pick it up. Robert Morgan is an amazing writer and I truly enjoy reading his books.

Ginny and Tom were well written and very real characters. They fought a lot about Ginny's religious beliefs and Tom being a true workaholic but I never doubted for one minute that they were devoted to their marriage and that they loved each other. This marriage teaches us a great lesson, you never appreciate what you have until you lose it.

Through the vivid descriptions of Ginny and Tom's workload, this book has made me appreciate all of the modern conviences that we have today even more.

This book was well written and enjoyable. I would recommend this book as well as Gap Creek to anyone and I'm looking forward to reading more books by Robert Morgan.

soul provoking
The Truest Pleasure is a wonderful story. Robert Morgan does not dissapoint! The strength of the main character, her dedication to her husband, her family and her faith is wonderful. Her ability to try and make all of these commitments come together, and the inner struggle she goes through to attain this is both heartwrenching and inspiring. The common occurence in the lives of these people, particularly illness and death and the manner in which they handle these as a basic element of life are very poignant. It is a story that can make you stop and think about what the truest pleasures in your life are, the things that satisfy both your heart and soul.

Truly "The Truest Pleasure"
I loved reading The Truest Pleasure!! It takes pride on my shelf along with my other loved books. It was wonderful how Robert Morgan potrayed the lives of Ginny and Tom. The way Ginny and Tom communicated had too many similarities to my own life. I am now reading Gap Creek and I will be looking for my next book my Robert Morgan.

The Green Hills of Earth
Published in Paperback by Signet Books (01 July, 1952)
Author: Robert A. Heinlein
Amazon base price: $2.95
Used price: $1.49
Average review score:

Early Heinlein Short Stories
As with any collection of short stories, there's some variance in quality here. Several are three-star, a few are four-star, and two are five-star. "The Long Watch" is a great character study, with emphasis on loyalty, duty, conscience, and ethics. The title story, "The Green Hills of Earth" is a wonderful but tragic tale of heroism and bravery, reminiscent of what we saw in the NYFD on 9/11/01. These last two make the collection worth buying.

Classic early short stories by Heinlein
Robert Heinlein was writing great science fiction before a lot of people even knew what it was. The Green Hills of Earth features ten early short stories from the 1940s; all of these stories are set in outer space, but these are more sociological and entertaining than technical in the way of hard science fiction. In "Delilah and the Space Rigger," the head of the space station construction project is horrified to discover that his new engineer is a woman. His fear of having one woman working among a crew of 200 men is never alleviated, but the modern-day Delilah makes good use of her undeniable engineering skills to win a victory of sorts in the end. "Space Jockey" is basically a story of a space pilot and his stay-at-home wife. It basically explores the issues of a traditional marriage in which the husband is away from home more than either partner would like for him to be. These two stories' treatment of women is far from sexist in my opinion. "The Long Watch" and "Gentlemen, Be Seated" are stories of bravery and heroism. In the first, a spaceman risks his radiation-vulnerable life to stop a military coup from taking place, while the second describes the heroism of three men trapped in a tunnel collapse in Luna City. "The Black Pits of Luna" is a story of a normal family whose youngest son (referred to lovingly as "the brat") wanders off by himself on a tour of the moon. The search for the little guy offers us some clues as to what sorts of qualities a space man should have (as well as the qualities of individuals who should never have been allowed on the moon to start with).

"It's Great to be Back" is enjoyable yet wholly predictable. After three years on the moon, a couple absolutely yearns to go back home to earth, only to find that their idea of home has changed immensely during their sojourn in Luna City. "-We Also Walk Dogs" is probably the most singular story in this collection. General Services basically serves any request made by its customers, offering a service borne of the old tradition of walking dogs for rich folks. Their commitment to do whatever job needs to be done is put to the ultimate test when a bureaucrat asks them to make hay with the laws of gravity in order to pave the way for an ultra-important international business meeting on earth. "Ordeal in Space" is another hero story-"Mr. Saunders" is a space hero who has become deathly afraid of heights as the result of a terribly frightening yet heroic ordeal above the earth. He is so afraid of heights that he can't even look up at the sky without getting queasy. When he reluctantly accepts a dinner invitation and ends up spending the night in an apartment 35 stories above the ground, the meowing of a kitten stuck out on the ledge challenges him to overcome his fears. As an acrophobic person myself, it was all I could do to get through some of Heinlein's realistic descriptions of the heights involved in this kitten rescue mission. "The Green Hills of Earth" is the story of the unofficial poet laureate of outer space, but I found it to be the only slightly disappointing story in the book. Finally, "Logic of Empire" rounds out the collection. Humphrey Wingate gets into a heated discussion about the reality of indentured servitude on Venus, refusing to see it as a modern form of chattel slavery. When his friend asks him to put his money where his mouth is, he has the great misfortune of being very drunk. Upon awakening, he finds himself on a ship bound for Venus, where he quickly develops a brand new standpoint on the subject of Venusian servitude.

These are all great stories which the passage of time has not hurt one iota. Set in a science fiction setting, they are all essentially stories of people and their interaction with one another. Any fan of Heinlein or science fiction in general is missing a rare treat if he/she overlooks The Green Hills of Earth.

Old Copy
I have an older copy of this book that my Grandpa gave me. I read and loved it. I re-read often.

Modelling Fixed Income Securities and Interest Rate Options (McGraw-Hill Finance Guide Series)

A Fundamental Resource
I head an interest rate swap desk after several years trading interest rate swaps. I refer to this excellent book when I need a quantitative brush up. Most of our challenges are on the fundamental principles, and Jarrow covers them very well. I'm a fan of Jarrow, and have several of his other works as well. Since I soon will also have responsibility for credit derivatives, I bought and recommend "Credit Derivatives" by Tavakoli. This book brought me up to speed on exotic options in this market as well as total return swaps and the various types of credit derivatives products. Many of my customers use interest rate exotics as well as these products.

required reading in fixed income
Excellent job on the detail analysis of fixed income models, accessible to non-mathematician, no stochastic calculus involved. this book is more focused than Tuckman's book. this is absolutely more easy reading than all other fixed income model books out there. read this one, you will be on the way to "martingale methods in financial modelling". also recommend "fixed income analytics".

At last a real well written Book on Interest Rate Modeling!
This book will definitely replace all the books on interest rate modeling- Brigo Murcurio etc. The book starts at an elementary level, explains every details of the concept, and then develop the subject matter one needs to know to be a pro in interest rate modeling. Even the simple concepts like duration, convexity are clearly explained that many other books take pages, and even then not very clear. Buy it, Read it! After all you will be learning from a master! The clarity and the writing style are simply great! Good job Prof. Jarrow!

BTW: Neither Prof.Jarrow knows me nor I know him personally
