Geometry Teacher Likes It!!
I found this book caused me to rethink much of how I approach Geometry personally and in my classroom. From the first problem, "What is Straight?" which had me thinking about my own assumptions straight lines, I have been thinking of ways to approach Geometry differently with my students.

I enjoy the problem-centered exposition, but at times, I wish I had a little more direction. The emphasis on INTUITIVELY understanding what is going on in these different spaces, and on working with physical models (the hyperbolic models are cool), is a refreshing change from an algebraic/matrix approach. This book is all about DOING geometry, and formulating convincing arguements to your "Why?" questions.

Asking some hard questions
Henderson's text is penetrating analysis of the global corporate social responsibility (CSR) push. With alarming ease Henderson questions some of the very basic tenets of CSR.

If you are in the CSR industry, you must read this book and be able to tackle Henderson's hard-headed critique.

You ought to be ashamed
The Pushcart Prize is the most wonderful and rewarding annual anthology out there because, for one thing, it's the most fair--as Bill Henderson says in his introduction, there's no money here. You don't have to have written a bestseller or be in with the "New Yorker" crowd in order to be published here. All you have to do is be a good writer. Here is fiction and poetry at its rawest and purest form, from writers who write for the sake of writing, for the sheer love of it. This is a noble thing.

Software Design & Usability : Talks with Bonnie Nardi, Jakob Nielsen, David Smith, Austin Henderson & Jed Harris, Terry Winograd and Stephanie Rosenbaum

Much more than 'just' software design and usability
This is a highly recommendable book. A must for everyone interested in how human-comupter interaction is studied or conceived or debated.

Read about those topics, that are hot or ever-greens for the usability-interested.

Maybe you don't know all of those names in the title, but you will surely see why THEY've been chosen for the interviews.

The topics are presented the way they were raised with the interviewed persons - as dialogues, interviews.

This is a great way of approaching and exploring the thoughts and concepts that go across the entire field of software and internet development, and not through just one or two writers.

It's a lot of food for thought.

Colonial Life Becomes "Real" in Felicity's World/1774
I was amazed to find this title at the Texas Library Association Conference in Houston, Texas last week. The book jumped out at me when I passed the American Girls exhitbit booth. The colorful cover conveys a realistic scene from Felicity's time in U. S. History that took me back over 200 years. From the first page to the last, I was riveted to find out more details. The paintings, maps, and drawings help to tie together how colonists lived and carried out their daily chores in their families and in their communities. Cutaways and aerial scenes take the reader into the action of the time, especially those where girls and women were active in the Revolutionary War: Sybil Ludington who was a Patriot soldier and Eliza Wilkinson who refused to play her guitar for a British soldier. I give this book 5 gold stars and hope to read the other Welcome to the American Girl books soon.

A must for sheep farmers
If you raise sheep you should have a copy of this book. It is a great reference. The only fault I find is that it could use a symptom based index.

Excellent practical information.
Written for the U.K. its an excellent book to have on hand if you have 5 sheep or 5,000.

'Scuse me while I kiss the sky : the life of Jimi Hendrix
Published in Unknown Binding by ()
Author: David Henderson

Used price: $1.73
Average review score:

Comprehensive look at a Rock icon...
Excellent account of Hendrix's life (drug use and all) with the only critique that I might add is how can Henderson know or even speculate what thoughts went through Hendrix's mind particularly when he lay dying? There is a lot of this type of verbage here, but if you can get around that, this is an invaluable story that definetly puts you into Hendrix's life (a big strongpoint of this book) particularly during the major events (Monterey, Fillmore, Woodstock...) and is well worth the read.

S'cuse me while I kiss the sky
"S'cuse me while I kiss the sky", is a book about the life and times of Jimi Hendrix. This biography (writen by David Henderson)was a long but exciting read. It starts off on his dad as a child and goes all the way to Jimi's death. It goes through all of his good times and bad, all of his songs(hits and not hits), and what he did to get there. This is a classic and if you need inspiration or are just a fan of Jimi, you should defiantly read this book. I think it will be worth your time and was worth mine.

Good
Frank Zappa once said, "Rock and roll journalism is stuff written by writers who can't write, about musicians who can't play music, for readers who can't read." This is an exception, in that it is a highly readable and well-written book. The author has very good academic writing credentials, the like you almost never see among rock journalists. A fat book, that I read quickly.

Good for potential NT server users, outdated otherwise
If, like me, you're considering upgrading from a small peer-to-peer Windows 95/98 network to a proper NT server network and are wondering what NT is all about, this is a great introduction. Better than most introductory books, it clearly explains the advantages and limitations of moving up to NT and the basics of how file server and client/server operations work. However, if you're looking for up-to-the-minute NT information, you'd be better to look elsewhere. Despite the "totally revised and updated" claims, this book is clearly near the end of it's currency. The references to 9600 speed modems and PC's with 16 MB RAM let you know the revisions were not all that complete. But if you're mystified by what NT can do and want an introduction, this book will prepare you for more current/technical books.
