This one's a keeper
This book is wonderful. Rosenberg's approach to meditation and Buddhism comes without the baggage of superstition and folklore that attach themselves to some books on these topics. Rosenberg offers not only basic instruction, but a path for advancing one's practice through the various contemplative steps beyond that, using the anapanasati sutra. I also love the fact that his background is from the East Coast of the U.S., and Jewish. I get a little tired of the condescending attitude toward Westerners from some of the more traditional Eastern authors and teachers. Rosenberg doesn't have a built-in cultural bias toward the East, and is clearly an experienced, dedicated and wise teacher with a sense of humor. I'm usually too cheap to buy the hard-back version of any book (sorry, Amazon), but this one's hard-back, and I'm glad for it because it's a keeper.

Witty and Interesting Meditation Guide
I picked up this book after a professor read excerpts from it out loud in a class. I was taken with the author's wit and writing skill. This is an absolutely essential guide to meditation, great for beginners, advanced students, and folks like me who are just interested. Very clear, entertaining, lots of antecdotes. Not a dry tome by any means, but not a frivelous book either. It does get to be a bit repetitive at times, but otherwise, well done!

An indepth look into the Anapanasati sutra
A must read for anyone who wants to take their meditation practice further. Larry explains indepth how to use the breath to be in the moment. Humor and real life stories help convey this wonderful technique. Whether a bigger, like me, or a meditator of many years, you will benefit by reading this book.

We Want More!
A tremendous read. Like many of David Lanoue's haiku, his novel about Haiku Guy is a simple story with a lot of hidden text under the surface. You don't need to catch all the subtext or know the details of Buddhism to enjoy the book, but it's even more fun when you do. I recommend this book very highly and I'd suggest you savor it rather than devour it quickly. I also know that David has at least two more novels in this style in manuscript form. Somebody out there needs to contact David about publishing them. I want more. I think a lot of people do.

How can people be so lazy?
What's with all these peoms? They're SUPER short.

HAIKU GUY, by Dr. David Lanoue, is a MUST READ!
There is so much to say about this book - its multidimensions....the interplay of the writer with the characters, and with the reader; just WHO the writer is - writer, student, mentor, seeker, guide; the incarnations of the characters; the shifting time frames with theme preserved throughout; the part the reader takes on quite inadvertently just because s/he is reading it....it's wonderful. I can't say enough. But I CAN highly recommend this book and encourage you to buy it and read it now, and again, and again. You won't want to put it down, I guarantee you! I am anxious to read more of Dr. Lanoue's thoughtful and entertaining writing - future books? I hope so!

The best book I've ever read.
I can offer no greater enticement for a book other than that I have given it to all of my friends and "forced" them to read it. It is touching, sentintimental, and at the same time richly funny; all in the same way that real life is. It contains all the wisdom of self combined with that of a best friend, harshly honest and thought provoking. I'm sure everyone will find a great deal of themselves in it. I can't wait until it circulates back to me so that I may read it once again.

THANK YOU, DAVID GUY!
How refreshing and exciting to be able to peek inside a man's mind, heart, and soul for an honest and uncensored look at how he REALLY feels about love, sex, relationships, and desire. I'll read this one again, something I've never done with any other book. I can't help myself -- I've fallen in love with this guy! I'll be looking forward to more from this author

Information Rich
Both authors are Australian and that great Aussie style comes across in the funky illustrations, easy flow of information and a few laughs along the way.
The book really embraces the new "girl power" thinking - keeping everything in balance, so it's perfect that you get both the female and male perspectives.
It's really important for everywoman to understand her true worth before launching into any relationship, and this book helps you uncover that. So if you do buy it as a gift, make sure you read it first!

Death is a great teacher.
Larry Rosenberg, a respected meditation teacher, insightfully succeeds in bringing death to life in this meaningful new book. "The truth is," he observes, "death is not waiting for us at the end of the road, it is walking with us the whole time," from the moment we are born (p. 13). Unfortunately, readers who are uncomfortable confronting the unavoidable realities of aging, illness, and death may find this book morbid or depressing. Instead, however, Rosenberg encourages us to view death as "a great teacher . . . it teaches us how to live life" (p. 107).

"Death is here now," Rosenberg writes (p. 80). Everyone must die (p. 87). Our remaining life span is decreasing continually (p. 88). Death will come regardless of whether or not we are prepared (p. 91). Human life expectancy is uncertain (p. 93). There are many causes of death (p. 95). The human body is very fragile (p. 97). Our wealth cannot save us (p. 99). Our loved ones cannot help us (p. 101). Nor can our body help (p. 102). When viewed correctly, Rosenberg observes, these facts can become "doorways to liberation" (p. 141) that "make life more precious. They show us that every moment is a gift" (p. 97).

This book reads easily, and is filled with both interesting anecdotes and profound insights. Reading it could change your life.

A life changing book
As a new practitioner to the Buddhist way of life, I felt that this book distilled several books/teachings I've encountered on finding happiness in the present. I heartily recommend it to anyone living - especially those living in a fast-paced society.

living in the light of death
This book is brilliant..........using death awareness as subject, the author shows us how we can actually live in freedom now, today. His clear, experiential understanding of the dharma is revealed over and over again throughout and his convicted and loving embrace of it is an amazing gift, given graciously, to us all. One of the finest dharma books ever written!
