Keeps me coming back....again.....and again.....and again...
I had some time in the last year to peruse astrology's past and present. It wasn't until I chanced across Jeff Green's work that I knew astrology had a future!!!

Not an easy breezy book...
read this book if you want to delve into spiritual/psychological translation of these powerful chart symbols as related to your soul's direction and potential growth. As an ametuer astrologer this book stretched my understanding of Pluto's influence on the soul and answered questions as to why a soul chooses the learning experiences it does. This books presents tools for understanding the .....why this, why me, why now questions that I know I want astrology to answer. It has not only given me insight to "me" but has helped me to better understand the people that are close to me.

surprised!
I was surprised by the information in this book. No astrology book has ever explained so clearly why some events have some difinate negative patterns in my life. Not only that, this book can tell you how you can overcome those difficulties. I could never imagine the planet "pluto" and Moon Nodes are so important in understaing one's life. If you're ready to face also the negative side in your life, then this book is the answer.

Our Collective Eco-Wake
Let me start by going backwards. In the appendix, the authors testify that this book is about the "greenest" on the market. With soy-based inks and nearly 100 percent of the paper content comprised of post- and pre-consumer waste, the book is a monument to sustainable production. Although they bemoan the "well traveled pulp" cover, no dioxins were co-produced alongside the book. To prove the book really is this cool, they painstaking tracked the web of connections involved in its production as far back as possible.

After discussing every facet of the book, from guts and cover to printing, the only thing they were unable to determine was where half the cover's paper was produced. In all, this post-production analysis was stunning. The delicate web of causes and effects that entered into the books production should serve as a model to all those who would conceive the production of any product. Ideally, we should strive for this kind holistic understanding of production, consumption, and disposal before products every leave the design table.

The actual content of the book is just as salient. What happens when millions of ordinary people like you and me go about our ordinary business, using lots of stuff? What ecological "wakes" do they leave behind, rippling outward across the world? This is the premise of the book, which is rather unassuming and commonsensical. The answers, however, are anything but mundane and commonsensical. The true stories of how things are made might leave you feeling overwhelmed or depressed. You might think twice about throwing that lump of sugar into your coffee -- and not only because it could add a few extra pounds and put you at greater risk of heart disease. You do so also in efforts to help restore the habitat of the Florida Everglades.

Did the profound disconnect sink in yet? Not to worry, another 9 generic commodities with their own unique global "ripples" await you after picking up this book. They include you morning coffee, the newspaper, your T-shirts, shoes, that computer, the bike (and the car), those French fries, the hamburger that preceded them, and also the cola which will wash it all down. Although the imaginary North American whose daily consumptive routine this book tracks might not be you, do not then assume that these issues do not therefore concern you. The fact is, the consolidated effects of this consumption are harming much more than the Florida Everglades. They could potentially end all human reproduction. Perhaps you should read that last sentence again.

We need to educate ourselves about this net ecological "wake" before the rooster tail of acid rain, rainforest destruction, ozone depletion, water depletion, air pollution, forest annihilation, energy exhaustion, pesticide inundation, sweatshop labor promotion, species extinction, waste production, monoculturalization, spiritual declination, heavy metal pollution creation, VOC smog accretion, and desertification leave us all wet and shivering in the cold.

"Well, what am I supposed to do bury my car?" you wonder. The book also offers hope. Consumption, whether we like it or not, is in end inescapable. Thus by understanding our impacts, seeking alternative solutions, educating the friends and the general public, and at the same time altering some our most unhealthy consumer habits, we can help move things in the right direction. If you are looking for more in-depth suggestions along these lines, check out "The Better World Handbook" (2001). It is my personal eco-bible. You can also get further eco-tips from the Northwest Environmental Watch website.

Easy read, deep impressions
I didn't know this book would be such a nice read...
After receiving it, I read it all in one sitting. The book chronicles a day in the life of a typical person (an American). Although it is about an American, I believe there is not much difference between any ordinary person in any developed country on earth. The impacts of this person's consumption of products, her actions are all examined from an environment viewpoint. Some people may think that the book is too amateur but that's precisely why it's such a good read. It's easy to understand but leaves a lasting impression on you. I strongly recommend it to anyone interested in knowing more about how our everyday actions affect the world we live in.

Outstanding illustration of how consumerism harms the earth
I've never found another book like this one. It makes it extremely easy to understand, breathtakingly clear, how our choices to consume various products cause a chain of events which harm the environment. Do you know what was done to a river in Canada to produce the six-pack of aluminum cans you just bought? What part of the earth did your coffee come from, and what scary things were done to produce it? The authors never hector or nag, they just describe the origin of things you probably use every day, and let you contemplate them for yourself. The book is a quick and easy read, suitable for adults and teens alike. If I were a high school teacher or college instructor, this book would be mandatory reading for my classes.

A well developed, expertly written action guide for use by an individual or team of individuals who are serious about addressing diversity. The material is easy to use, direct and very helpful in pin-pointing what I can do to improve my approach to diversity. This is a must use for anyone in public or private organizations who want to seriously address the issue of diversity!

Diversity Breakthrough Strategic Action Series by D Kennedy
Excellant series! A GREAT find! The many strategy ideas and suggestions guide the reader from assessment through the action planning process! The provided Action Planning Worksheets assist the reader in taking immediate steps and in benchmarking.

Diversity Breakthrough! Strategic Action Series
I read numerous business books throughout the year in an effort to remain enthusiastic, fresh and eager to face each new opportunity. I was delighted to find this jewel among the many tedious and mundane books that say the same thing with a few new quips here and there. This series presents ways to create renewal not only in my personal approach to my customers but gives me morsels to present TO my customers to use within their own organizations. So far, three of them have signed on to Amazon to check out the series previews!

Many of my customers are looking for ways to just stay interested and motivated as they begin each new year feeling stuck in the same job. By sharing something new from this series (a little plagiarism on my part) I bring something new to the party, I create new value with my customers!

I am grateful for this new approach. And because this material is so interesting and fresh , I have that much more to contribute to my work, to my peers and to my company.

Great work -- please keep it coming!

The Little Green Goose
Published in Library Binding by North South Books (April, 1999)
Authors: Adele Sansone, Alan Marks, and J. Alison James
Amazon base price: $15.88
Used price: $9.99
Average review score:

A lovely, quietly charming book about fatherhood
You could hardly do better than to get "The Little Green Goose" for any father, whether adoptive or biological. Adele Sansone's text is a miracle of economy, covering parenthood, adoption, geneaology, and more with a minimum of fuss and text.

The barnyard goose decides that he wants to be a father, but as he has no wife or other partner, he decides to adopt a spooky looking green egg found by the dog at the edge of a field. The goose settles himself on top of the eggs and waits and waits. When the egg finally cracks open, what emerges is some sort of lizard or dinosaur or who knows what--but it definitely is not a goose. Still, Sansone's goose dad utterly ignores the differences between himself and his new son and makes a natural (and skillful) parent. When the "green goose" decides to try to figure out what his real background is, he has little luck and ends up coming home to the goose--who, after all, is the only parent he's ever known.

The illustrations, by Alan Mark, are utterly charming. The "green goose" is splotched and splashed with color, while the goose is drawn sparingly and convincingly. This is, overall, a fun tale with subtle and valuable life lessons.

a story of adoption that did not forget the story!
Wonderful book covering so many subjects in a short entertaining time. Father goose longs for a child, and adopts a very strange egg. After the little green goose is born, the baby chicks tease saying thats not really your mommy, you dont look anything alike. The little green goose goes around trying to find out who he looks like and then becomes lonely and returns home, realizing home is where you are loved. Great book for adoptive fathers. Also for those involved in transracial adoption. The story illustrates a fathers love and caring, the idea that families do not need to look alike, and all this is done with a tale that is good for its own sake. The illustrations are superb, my favorite is the final one, this great big green dinosaur-like creature (the little green goose) with the father goose laying on top of his head, one wing stretched out protectively over his child and both fast asleep.

Action Books Are Worth Acting On!
If you look at all of Debbe Kennedy's writing, there is at least one thread connecting all her thoughts: talk is nice, but action -- making something really happen -- is the only path to achievement.

What's great, then, about this "Strategic Action Series" is that, page after page, Kennedy suggests, profiles, highlights, or lists things you can do to move diversity from the discussion table to the office suite or plant floor.

The series is a perfect blend of philosophy, reporting, and move-on-it-now lists. Thus, when completed, the series not only helps you see diversity in a new light; these books also help you think about your own potential for converting diversity into actions with both a personal and organizational payoff.

Birds of Prey Coloring Book
This is a marvelous coloring book. Thirty five birds are sketched in considerable detail, including appropriate backgrounds. In addition, each page includes detailed information about the bird. And the cover includes a photo of each page appropriately colored for your reference. As a reference tool for painters, as an educational tool for children, or simply for pleasure, this is one book I would highly recommend.

A Celebration of Marriage: When Faith Serves Love

A Celebration of Marriage: When Faith Serves Love
This a the most loving, sensitive, respectful book of marriage I had ever read (of many!). It represents a man's perspective on the relevance a woman, wife, friend, mother, lover and the significance she plays in a man's life; the very essence of life itself is fulfilled and satisfied through a loving, spiritually connected marriage union. Rabbi Green tenderly expounds upon how and why the marriage relationship is crutial to the fulfillment of God's plan for man and woman, family and children, and humanity itself. For anyone contemplating marriage for the first time, and/or for a deeply sentimental, loving insight into the "ideal" of marriage (any marriage -- regardless of faith), this is a must read. Follow the thoughts of Rabbi Green and his love and wisdom acquired from 50 years in his own marriage and you can begin to understand why marriage has been at the core of Judaism for thousands of years! Too bad the book is so hard to find. It should be reinstated by its publisher for regular reprintings. Read it and I KNOW you'll agree, if you can find one!

Must reading for those interested in Psychoanalysis
This book ... a classic in the French Psychoanalytic tradition ... has only recently been translated into English. Andre Green, a noted French Psychoanalyst, trained with Lacan, then broke away to incorporate the work of the British School (Winnicott, Bion, etc.) into his conceptualizations. In this volume Green sets as his task the elucidation of the consideration of affect in Freud's work, and the application of this understanding to varied clinical phenomenon encountered in practice. Green's writing style is clear, and his mastery of this complex area of study is evident.

I would recommend this book, and Andre Green's other works ("The Work of the Negative"; "The Dead Mother", etc.) to any and all who wish to advance their understanding of the best of psychoanalytic theory.

Demystifying the hallowed walls of power
As a junior political science major, I found the book to be informative and not as jargon laddened and dry as most political texts. This book really help put into perspective what actually occurs at the legislative branch of government. This book is a must read not only for political junkies such as myself, but for anyone wishing to know more about how bills, house resolutions, and a myriad of other legislative initiatives circulate through both the congress and the senate.
