easy to approach
This book is so easy to approach that I have ever read. As a medical student or resident, I suggest that you must buy one like this to enhance you for understanding the use of antibiotics and some knowledge in infectious diseases. You can make a quick reference from this book and some helpful information also.

A MUST HAVE!
There is nothing better for a clinician than finding the answer to your question quickly. This handbook does just that and with accurate, up-to-date information. bruce thomas.

A Fascinating Look at the Origins of Important Languages
Until such time as someone tries to fill the shoes of Jean Sammet and write a new overview of programming languages (a major job, that!), the HOPL conferences are the main source of insight into the development of programming languages that, Sapir-Whorf style, have shaped the way we view programming and the problems we try to solve with a computer. Even if someone does take up that task, the HOPL conferences are invaluable, since they provide information straight from the people involved.

This volume of the proceedings of HOPL II is thus invaluable for the student of programming. HOPL I covered the main early languages (Algol 60, FORTRAN, COBOL, LISP, APT, BASIC...); HOPL II covers important languages of more recent vintage (Algol 68, Pascal, C, C++. more recent dialects of LISP). C.H. Lindsey's fine paper on the turbulent development of Algol 68, the best language you probably never used and a major influence on later languages, is worth the price of admission by itself.

Outstanding Collection of Resources
I have read many many computer jounrals about the history of computing. Very few resources have put the kind of time and effort that Thomas Bergin has done in his book. Along with assistant editor, RIck Gibson, both men do a fine job collecting the best of the best resources and giving it right to the public upfront. I wish Bergin can do another book or something Internet related because this is truly apart of computing that we do not really have much material on.

Mark Gruhin Chapter Fantastic!
This is an excellent book with an extremely insightful and fascinating chapter written by Mark I. Gruhin. He is a very skilled writer and lawyer, and I look forward to his future writings.

Great Book-Very Interesting....
Being a lawyer in NYC, I was very impressed with some Inside the Minds: Interne Lawyers. Although it is impossible to cover every Internet related topic, the book does a good job at covering some very interesting topics. In addition, the individuals portrayed in the book represent a good cross sampling of different talents related to Internet law. I particularly enjoyed the interview with Mark Fischer at Palmer & Dodge. If you are a woman, make sure to also check out Inside the Minds: Leading Women.

Very welcome collection
I don't often open a book that I'm looking forward to reading and swear; I did this time because I was afraid the stories in this collection were too familiar. My dismay didn't last long; I hadn't read the familiar stories in a long time, and there were a number of unfamiliar ones as well.

Dick Lupoff's one helluva writer and I've always liked the stories of Marvia Plum and Hobart Lindsay, and as a former Berkeley resident, I appreciate the settings of these stories. Several appeared in Mysterious Intent magazine (where yours truly was a regular writer) and Dick contributed some of these stories for the first time. It's about time they were collected too.

One standout story that was new to me was "News from New Providence", a story set in the Bahamas, where Marvia's father Marcus appears. It's a story featuring a, well, an unnamed Duke and Duchess, who are shown to be as self-absorbed and snobby as I always thought from what I read. The familiar themes of collecting and the odd folks who often collect rare objects appear in several of the stories, and Lupoff's sure hand and sure knowledge of history show up everywhere; especially in two stories created for this collection: "Golden Glory" which has to do with a favorite topic of radio, and "Old Folks at Home", which revisits memories of Nazi Germany.

Alas, the "bonus story" was not to my taste, but that's not that it is a bad story. It's that, sorry folks, but I am not in any way a Nero Wolfe fan and it really helps to read this story featuring agoraphobic rose mavin Caligula Foxx. That hardly matters overall in this collection. Timmy in "Chinese Gunboats" - a sensitive an fascinating story that deals with an autistic man who knows whodunnit and tells Marvia about it in his own way.

One final note: I know that the author is truly pleased with this publisher. They've done a pretty good job, but I can't get excited about the interior illustrations. I think they're that combination of art and computer and they didn't work for me. However, the cover is truly wonderful. I think it shows off well Lindsey's slightly nebbishy qualities and Marvia's forthright cop nature. A welcome book in our household....

How did this one slip past me!
It was wonderful to see that Mr. Lupoff hasn't forgotten about Bert and Marvia. I really enjoyed these stories, separate though they were, I kept hoping these two guys would cross paths. When they eventually did, in "Old folks at Home," I was surprised, and intrigued, at how cleverly the reader was manipulated into expecting (and not getting of course) to see a more personal glimpse into their first encounter since the split up. I was disappointed, but it definitely made me anxious for their next mystery together. If you haven't read the series, you're really missing something. I'm holding my breath, Mr. Lupoff

Terrific Beginning Photo Book
I recommend this book very highly. It's well written and explains the concepts of beginning photography using this system clearly and concisely. Having some, but not a lot of experience with photography, I was interested in finding an instructional book that would help me get started quickly, but also see good results. The concepts and processes detailed are also illustrated quite nicely with photos, some eye catching, some stunning. Having read it through I went to work applying what I had learned with great success! I think it would be just as effective for a total beginner. I'm very happy with it.

an amazingly well documented, brasilianist piece
Given Gordon's background, he is THE authority (and luckily THE brasilianist) to write such a piece.

I was a AMAZED by the ammount of good documentation and multiple sources quoted in the text from almost every possible source. Only improvement here is that it seems that the wave of info available on the Internet caught the author by surprise (it could have been much more up-to-date).

One can hardly expect a foreigner to have a deeper understanding of brazil's history than the person who was the US ambassador for several years, and a self-declared brasilianist. A grain of salt comes from the fact that pro-US, pro-trade behaviors and positions are an obvious consequence of Gordon's origin.

It's a shame that the version I read wasn't written after Lula's election and his first day as a president, but I learned more about Brazil in this book than in any other one. Very good job showing data and facts to support the positions and analyzing the underlying facts that took brazil to the position where it is now.

An Extremely High Quality Book
It seems to me that few have seen the remarkable works of this master painter. If you haven't you're missing out. I had to write a review of this book, because no one has yet, and I wanted to express what an amazing job the Publishers did. This book shows Nevinson's work in great detail and has some of the highest quality pictures of his paintings I have ever seen. Nevinson paints some of the most visually stunning pictures of World War I. They are violent and vivid, full of energy and color...Groetesque and romantic all the same. Give these publishers (and Nevinson) some credit and ~BUY THIS BOOK~

Caspian Sea of Ink: The Meade-Sickles Controversy

The most important Civil War Controversy
This is an excellent historical review of the events that surround the most important day in American History. July 2, 1863 in Gettysburg, PA. Mr. Sauer's concise history is a good beginning although many of the questions will never be answered. The Sickles-Meade Controversy is still vigorusly debated 130 years after the event. Most events are long out of the public memory by then but, I feel this one will last as long as there is an United States of America.
