Excellent Study Guide!
Just took my exam this afternoon and passed the 1st time! An excellent study guide that comes very close to covering everything on the exam. In addition to having an actual copy of Dreamweaver for hands-on learning/practice, get an additional reference book for complete coverage. I used and recommend "Dreamweaver 4: The Missing Manual" by David Sawyer McFarland - the best book on Dreamweaver I've seen thus far. A great investment and one that I would HIGHLY urge you to purchase. Using both books together was perfect and two that shall remain as first-points of reference.

It worked for me!
Being an experienced Dreamweaver user, I found this book extremely easy to read. I was able to read it straight through, away from the computer. I also found a few tips in the book that I hadn't found when using the software, so it is an excellent book, even if you do not want to get certified. Although, this isn't a learn to use Dreamweaver book, so it is inappropriate for new users.

And Yes, I passed, so it met it's objective!

Important reading for our unsettling times
Robert J. Lifton has dedicated his life to explaining the phenomenon of blind faith. However, to understand the Taliban world John Walker entered nine months ago one needs to add to the list of required reading, an eloquent memoir by someone not unlike the idealistic young Walker, Deborah Layton. Dr. Lifton and Layton's words together only broaden the scope of our possible comprehension of this difficult subject and make excellent reading for theologians and society at large.

Fanatacism is Seductive Poison
Dr. Lifton's work gives us an excellent academic look into cult thinking. However, if you want to see how innocently these groups can start, if you want to understand the mind-frame of a believer, if you want to experience how it is that potent beliefs can skew one's morals then also include in your reading Seductive Poison. Anyone who has ever wondered how the unbelievable comes to pass Layton's memoir of cult life has the answers. Although three years old it remains a timely, intimate and enlightening look into a world that exists along-side our own. If you want a heart pounding visceral glimpse inside another world this book is it. It is not just evil that can do the things we've experienced since September 11. It can also be idealistic, devout folks like you and me. We are all more susceptible to fanatical beliefs since war has touched our soil. Would we now even question giving anthrax to "them"? Layton's work shows how it can go both ways.

Guruism as an Object of Desire
Subjects like this are not always approached in the same way that someone might go to church, for example. An introduction to this book which depends entirely on a religious point of view might seem strange to the casual shopper, but it suggests the spirit in which this book might be brought into view with a certain humility.

I used to go to church a lot because it provided an opportunity to think. I have also gone to hear the author of this book speak for the same reason, but with much deeper results, because Robert Jay Lifton, at the time of the 50th anniversary of the atomic attack on Hiroshima, was in a perfect position to accuse the American President who tried to explain the attack, Harry Truman, of confabulating when he combined the elements of the situation in a way which was not quite factual. My impression of Lifton at that time was that he was quite old, and not open to the perverse glee that a personal encounter with me might provide, so we didn't quite meet. Given the differences between us, it should be obvious that he has written a much better book on the topic of Apocalyptic Violence than I ever could, embracing a wealth of detail with relentless fascination. Early in the book, on page 16, typical psychological judgments are considered insignificant, as Freud's association with the resolution of the Oedipus complex is compared to the possibility of a guru who can face a real "call to greatness, and a series of ordeals and trials culminating in heroic achievement." Religious greatness can surpass the usual psychological norm when it is possible to demonstrate "the hero's achievement of special knowledge of, or mastery over, death, which can in turn enhance the life of his people." Most of this book reports on terrible events, including the creation of weapons. The guru who is the subject of this book was born in 1955, and the events are quite recent. I see no reason to dispute that the people involved were thinking in the manner that is reported in this book. Some readers might consider this excessively factual, but people with books ought to be able to get real like this once in a while, too.

Excellent Window
Certain essays from this book were requirements for an international relations class I took. After reading two of the stories I had to read the entire book. It is a truely excellent window into the effects of the atomic bomb on humans. It took me below the mushroom cloud, it was graphic, gripping, and effective. It does not focus on justifications for the bomb, it focuses purely on the effects. I plan on buying it in the near future because it is such an excellent testimonial.

greatly educational
I reviewed that te book was a great review of how terrible the devigstation was. Had great detail

superb
This is THE book for samba configuration. No two ways about it. This book rules.

These guys really want you to succeed an not only working a half-decent smb.conf file to implement a file server or print server but REALLY work your servers by creating stable, secure configurations where you do know what the options mean so you are implmenting knoweldge rather than mimicking the actions of others: lending robustness to your servers. It also help when you need to troubleshoot that you understand what you've done. Listen to these guys and that's what you'll accomplish: understanding. There is also good documentation on configuring various windows clients (as well as some insightful opinions on windows and it's failings and foibles: eg. Windows XP home being almost useless in a domain environment)

Lots of really good knowledge here. Pick it up and read it NOW! And then read it again.

To top it off, it is also very well written and easy to read! You now have no excuse not too...:)

Very comprehensive, very handy!
Network administers will invariably face the task of integrating Windows systems with Unix or Linux ones. Samba provides an excellent solution to this problem, but for people starting out, Samba seems like a daunting task.

Not so with this book. Prior to reading this book, I had no experience with Samba whatsoever. Before long, I found myself setting up Samba on a linux server and setting up file shares to Win2k systems. The massive smb.conf configuration file no longer looks menacing, but rather, its easy to read now.

I see why this has been adopted by the Samba team. Its very easy to read, very relaxing in its pace, and very thorough in its treatment of Samba topics. I do not believe there is a more comprehensive on Samba to date. Even the reference sections in the back are very nicely organized, and very easy to use.

What really tops this book off though is its treatment of Windows networking. For those who have little or no understanding of Windows and how networks are organized, this book covers the topic very well. Unix/Linux administrators will be glad they read this chapter.

In closing, I strongly recommend this book to Network Administrators, particularly those using Unix/Linux. This book is very comprehensive, but very easy to read.

The essential book on SMB networking
Samba is one of the wonders of the Open source movement. A small bunch of guys in out of the way Canberra, Australia develop a product that emulates a Windows Server Message Block (SMB) server. They do such a good job that within a couple of years they have sponsors assisting programmers around the world in bringing out a product that does a better job than anything Microsoft offers.

I've installed Samba in a number of different environments and used it both as a server and client. I wish I'd had this book. It does a good job of explaining how to set it all up, get it running and maintain it. Nothing else does as good a job. While you can (probably) install and run Samba using just the online manuals you will find it a lot easier if you buy this book. It certainly saves me a lot of time.

It is well written, easy to read, thorough and well paced. It contains a large number of examples and goes through the almost monolithic smb.conf file till it feels like an old friend.

While it does cover some of the underlying network protocols it does not unnecessarily dwell on them, it is a good mix of explanation and getting your hands dirty examples.

The book is well structured, starting with simple configurations and proceeding through to complex ones involving printers, domain controllers and the like. A marvelous way to learn, at the same time it is easy to find particular snippets of information when you require them. I find Appendices C (a configuration option quick reference) and D (a summary of the command line options for the daemons) and the fault tree in Chapter 9 particularly useful.

I would recommend this book to everyone who wishes to integrate Samba into a Windows environment, regardless if it is a small home network or an entire office building. And yes, you can download the entire text for free - the Samba team have now adopted it as part of the official documentation thanks to the authors and O'Reilly, but call me old fashioned, I like having the paper.

TAKE IT EVERYWHERE
I am an Internal Medicine Resident and can't live without it. It's complete. It has included references for further reading. Handy (pocket size) and pratical. Find the info you need in a hurry, very fast. I work with renal patients, and the included dosage adjustmen table covers the most frequently used antibs. I buy a new one every year since 1993!!!

Use it every day in my outpatient clinic
I don't even think about prescribing antibiotics without referring to sanford's. It's cheap, well organized, current, and easy to carry around. One of the 2 or 3 most used tools I have in my practice.

Top Reference
I have kept a copy of sanford in my cast pocket since internship. It is the quickest most concise reference when I need to know what antibiotic to use emperically. I recommend this to all practicing physicians.

Darkest Hours: A Narrative Encyclopedia of Worldwide Disasters from Ancient Times to the Present

A compelling read.
Darkest Hours is a fascinating piece of work for those interested in the history of mankind's calamities. Mr Nash is thorough and very descriptive of the events. Unfortunately though, Darkest Hours is out-dated and a second addition is certainly a must.

dmonaco delivered the goods
i ordered darkest hours on line from dmonaco and believe me the service swift and the book..indescriblebly good.thanks dmonaco and thanks amazon,i'll alway be a faithful customer to you both!

First Rate Encylopedia
Every now and then a book comes along which can almost be said to be the last word in its field. Darkest Hours is one of those books. Nash covers worldwide disasters from ancient times to the late twentieth century, with entries that are both logical and properly placed. While many of the entries are short, Darkest Hours is no dictionary, but rather a true encylopedia. Nash includes a complete historical depiction of each tragedy, and usually good character descriptions as well. He takes us to the city of St.Pierre as it is about to be obliterated by Mt. Pelee. We find ourselves in Japan during history's worst tidal wave. The murder and mayhem of the Coconut Grove Nightclub Fire comes alive. Nash's writing does get to be rather gory at times, but those offended by this are not likely to be reading his book in the first place. In the end there are only two drawbacks to this book. First of all, it is so good that others wanting to do something similar may just give up trying. Secondly, the book has not been updated in twenty-five years. For most publications, this would call for a new edition. Here, it demands it.

Quick and easy to use.
In my line of work, I often find myself in the position of writing for others as well as myself: letters, paragraphs and sometimes longer pieces. Rules of Thumb is exactly what I need as someone who loves grammar, but has been out of school for 15+ years and needs a quick...you guessed it..."rule of thumb" on a particular topic. I highly recommend it for the workplace. The pages are laid out in such a way that merely thumbing through the book allows your eye to land on the topic you're looking for. When all you need is a quick reminder, or even consise 'how, why, when and where' examples -- this is the book to choose!

Comprehensive and quick reference in one easy to use package
This book provides a complete, easy to understand description of all aspects of grammatically correct writing. But what makes this book truly exceptional is the integral quick reference guides in every chapter that allow you to make a quick check when you are in the midst of your writing project. I have not found any other book that works this well for me; I have used it in place of the corresponding required text for my college English classes.

The guidance that I needed was gained from this book.
This book contains information that can be reached in moments and is most time-saving. Had I been exposed to this while in school, I'm sure my writing would have been on a much higher level. Orchids to Jay, Elaine and Diana.

Sarajevo: A War Journal

Chilling journal of siege's first 16 months
The author was an editor of Oslobodjenje, Sarajevo's independent newspaper that continued to publish daily throughout the 1992-1995 period that the city was besieged by Serb nationalist forces. The journal entries take in just the first 16 months of that siege. It is chilling to realize that the siege would continue for more than two years beyond the period covered by the journal-and that populations in some other cities and villages suffered even more than did Sarajevo's.

Sarajevo: A War Journal
The stories of Sarajevo and Bosnia are breath taking. Mr. Dizdarevic brings to light the day to day struggle that so many residents of Sarajevo went through. Not only physically, but mentally as well. Sarajevo is a very beautiful city and is getting more beautiful as it gets rebuilt. I can not imagine what it would have been like to live these stories that Mr. Dizdarevic writes about. This is a must read book!

Essential reading from ¿Books on Bosnia¿
Written in the first years of the siege by an editor at Oslobodjenje, these poignant war stories, compelling descriptions, and perceptive reflections from a city under fire constitute one of the most authoritative testimonies of the entire Bosnian war. A powerful and often scathing articulation of Sarajevo's disillusionment with Western inaction and betrayal of international norms and values. (This short review is from "Book on Bosnia" published by The Bosnian Institute)
