Selected from It Was on Fire When I Lay Down on It
Robert Fulghum's style of writing is unique - simple yet deep and provocative.

This book (like his other books!! ) has the power to touch your life with the wonder of simple ideas. It gives the reader hope that life isn't all bad and good things can happen to ordinary people too.The best part is his ability to send across the message without actually preaching!!

Excellent reading ....and a Book collector's delight!

This book will fill anyone looking for love with hope.
I found this book by accident and since reading it have purchased it for two of my closest friends. It states at the beginning of the book that it is best read with a lover, but coming from a single woman, I found the collection of stories a sign that true love does exist. This book brought myself and my two friends genuine happiness and hope for our own story.

True Love by Robert Fulghum
This book was a joy to read in fact I keep looking back in read a couple of stories to help me make it through this time apart from my spouse.... This book is a real inspiration to anybody who needs to be cheered up in a time of need or just needs a good laugh... I enjoyed this book more then any other book I have read in a long time...

True Love Stories
I loved this book, every single one of us wonders, what is true love? All these stories have some glimpse, or taste of true love possibilities. Some are full blown true love that stood the test of time. Love is the most marvelous feeling in the world, and most desired of all experiences of humans. Yet true love so hard to explain with words, for the emotion of it is so powerful. The human experience is certainly more bleak without true love in our lives somewhere, sometime. I hope everyone who ever hopes to be in love, or has been in love will read this. I have already bought extra copies to share with my friends. What a treat Robert Fulghum is to those of us who love to read of the human experience.

Good book this is.
This book has alot of inspiring quotes. I found myself writingthem down in my own notebooks. The only thing is after reading this book it made me feel like I wasn't living my life to the fullest, because I wasn't doing something groundbreaking with my life, like leading a revolution to feed the hungry or something. It's the same feeling I get after watching Oprah Winfrey. Read the book.

I've read most of the Robert Fulghum's works from "Maybe Maybe not, True Love, ... and this Words I Wish I Wrote." Honestly speaking, I am not a native-English speaker, but ever since I contacted with Fulghum's works, I'd loved it. Most of his works are witty, humorous and pretty.

Sure, Including this one. His work will inspire people in a mystical way as to move the deepest part of his heart. I did learn much from his works. I am suprised at that as well, and more confident in realizing this world. I do suggest you read this book. But I recommend you read his other works first. You have to know him more before you get to the great sayings he cherishes all his life.

A Book of "Words I Wish I Wrote"
This book has to be one of the best that I have ever read. The effect that it has on the reader is immediate and profound, for it has a way of showing you life through the simplest and yet most obtuse terms. It is truly a piece that will expand the mind and inspire the imagination, a much read for any "thinker."

A Chosen Faith: An Introduction to Unitarian Universalism
Published in Hardcover by Beacon Press (1998)
Authors: John A. Buehrens, F. Forrester Church, and Robert Fulghum
Amazon base price: $25.00
Average review score:

Warning: Rating for even numbered chapters only!
The book is actually co-authored; Forrest Church writes the odd number chapters and Buehrens writes the even. The two have completely different styles of writing, which Church acknowledges in the forward (which begs the question of why they would attempt such a book). It makes it feel like two different books altogether. Beuhrens' is far better and clearly quenches the objective of the book, giving a splendid introduction and education on Unitarian Universalism. I urge him to write his own book. Church, ironically, represents the very kind of religion I would assume UU's want to avoid. He "preaches" (he even compares himself to a spider - one "who spins what he has to say out of himself") and often speaks in complexed, theologian rehtoric that only a scholastic author of religion text books would understand. You might as well read a King James Hymnal. Buehrens words flow like Emersons, which warm with logic and burst with revelation the way one's free religion teachings should. Skip the odd chapters and you'll be satisfied.

This book was excellent
Out of Recommendation from a friend I bought this incredible book and surprisingly, I proceeded to enjoy the openmindedness this religion has to offer. A Chosen Faith has shown me a whole new perspective on the Unitarian Religion, and although I was raised under a Catholic background. This incredible book has changed my views on life emphasizes equal respect towards people of all religions and cultures. The book has taught me the virtues of Unitarianism, and I am now proud to say that it has changed my life. This book is a must read for anyone interested in a religion/philosophy in which you are free to question the soul, choose your own morals and experience openminded love towards one another. 5 stars

An Excellent Introduction to Unitarian Universalism
This book clearly explains what Unitarian Universalism is. At the same time, it is an incredibly enjoyable read. I find it inspirational and insightful. I recommend this book to anyone looking for an open-minded faith that emphasizes service and the search for Truth instead of dogma.

If you like Robert you'll like this.
If you like Robert Fulghum's other books you'll really enjoy this book. If you haven't read Robert try his first best seller 'All I needed to know I learned in Kindergarden' It's his best work and will give you an idea of how enjoyable this guy's views and stories on life are to read.

Wonderful.
This book was a joy to read. It was quick reading, humorous at times, thought provoking at others.

If you want some funny hours reading...
This is one of the best books I have read in the last months! Many daily situations that you have with yourself are present. May be or may be not you will love it, but I am sure you will ever remeber many funny situations in your real life. Try it. It is cheap, easy for reading, good for our spiritual side...

Read it for the stories...
...and not for any insight into the role of ritual in everyday life. Robert Fulghum is a sort of Winnie the Pooh of expository writers: he is the reader's loyal friend with a heart as big as outdoors, but when it comes to organizing his thoughts and presenting them clearly, he is 'a bear of very little brain.'

He tells great anecdotes and excels at bringing a tear to your eye. This book is almost worth buying for one chapter which describes the absolutely perfect nontraditional wedding. If you aren't sniffling audibly by the end of it, you aren't human. And there are several other narratives of equal sentimentality.

On the other hand, if you want advice on how to use ritual to add richness to your daily life, or your family's life, you won't get much help here -- just encouragement.

For a truly practical book on family ritual with many, many practical suggestions you can apply immediately, see Susan Lieberman's NEW TRADITIONS -- which Fulghum recommends in his bibliography.

Fulghum helps us to identify ritual in our everyday lives.
This book presents Fulghum's open-minded approach to the ways people can celebrate the important events in their lives. He takes the mundane and shows through case-studies how just about any significant event in life can be elevated to a sacred level. I laughed at some stories and wept at others, as Fulghum's points rang true on a very deep level. I finished this book convinced that the world needs to recognize the importance of being aware of and incorporating ritual into our daily lives.

Fantastic Perspective Of Living Life
Fulghum usually has written thought provoking stories that were entertaining. From the beginning of this book, one can see that Fulghum has gotten serious about provoking thought about existence and life in general.

This book takes reading and re-reading and it may change your life and the way you look at your place on earth.

Like Father, Like Son?
Perhaps my expectations were too high, being a long-time fan of the senior Mr. Fulghum, but I found this book to be a bit lacking in every way. It was a fairly enjoyable read, full of short tales that try to touch the heart. To me the author seems to be trying too hard to match his fathers' writing style, making the book come across as a Fulghum wannabe rather than the work of an independant author. There is a slight flavor of Dave Barry-ish wit, which seems to have been covered up in favor of attempting the nostalgic. I'd like to see this author write a book without trying to imitate his father--my guess is that it would be a fine read!

Excellent collection of stories
I found some of the stories in this collection particularly poignant for my life. Sevarl of the stories "hit home" instantly, and others have become steadily more important to my life as my daughters are getting older. My oldest just turned 3, and the author's stories of his childrens' antics seem to parrallel events in our lives. This is a book I will, no doubt, return to periodically; reliving events in my life and the lives of my children.

The author has a wry sense of humor and the book is permeated with his personality and wit. I certainly wouldn't recommend this book to someone looking for "dumb humor"; but if you are looking for an educated, humorous, and at times touching collection of stories about everday life occurances...buy this book.

Outstanding Book, talented writer like his father
Like Father Like Son, is a whitty and inspiring book that makes you want to laugh and cry even in the same paragraph. Well written book and has great potential to suceed like his father has in writing. Some times following in your father's footsteps isn't half bad!!!!!!!!

Lighthearted and Fun
Though not nearly as terrific as his KINDERGARTEN book, Uh-Oh is a great read. Fullugham has some unique perspectives. This is a terrific book that can be savored a few pages at a time. The included essays are often funny, sometimes touching, and always enjoyable. The way the authour looks at the commonplace, and then bestows it with a sense of wonder has brought me back to Mr. Fullgham's books on a number of occassions. Read one and you'll be hooked.

I fell asleep with this book clutched in my arms
Amazing...I didn't want it to end. It opened a new fronteer of book reading in my life. It changed me. This man, Fulghum, packs so much emotion into his words. How I wish I could live like him, or at least write like him. Definintely inspritional and touching and funny. I can't say it enough! Read it! Nothing out there compares to Fulghum's sensitivity about everything in life. I don't know how to say it any other way. If I had even half as much truth and insight as this author has, I would be happy.

Excellent short read
Robert Fulghum has a way of coming across quite simple, but his perceptions are actually quite intricate. You'll more than likely find some of your own ponderings in his thoughts. And then again, some of his ponderings must be charmingly and uniquely his.

Uncommon Thoughts .... The Wisdom Behind It All...
I picked up this book in a bookstore one day not expecting much. I read it a little over a year ago, when I was in 7th grade. The thing about the collection of little "stories" that grabbed me was the terribly interesting point of view. This book is not for the weak-minded. There are morals and points behind the analogies. It focuses on people in general, and what there really is to life. This author has a great supply of wisdom, and while I don't agree with everything written, I greatly respect his "advice". I'd rather give it 4 1/2 stars.

Delightful and truly simple
I read this book and I found it truly wonderful for its simple day to day thoughts. Its simplicity is delightful and inspiring. Shouldn't we all think a little bit more about what truly matters in our daily life?. All people should find time to read this book and lighten her/his day! Enjoy yourselves!

All I Really Need To Know I Learned From This Book
I would recommend this book to anyone. The basic principle of the book is, everything you need to know about life, and how to live successfully stem from the basics that we all learned in kindergarten. Often, in many books there is a boring spot. Either the reader gets tired of waiting for the characters to interact with each other, or the plot isn't moving along, etc. With All I Really Need To Know I Learned in Kindergarten, this is never the problem. Since each story is very short, if you don't like the characters in a story, it will be over shortly. The stories in the beginning of the book were the most meaningful, while at the end, the stories were incredibly good. In the middle of the book, the stories weren't as good, and the theme of Christmas was in about ten different stories. Since there are only about 60 stories, you can image how this got redundant. Other than these, I could personally relate to the essays and I think that anyone else would be able to also.
