One of the best Christian books on holiness I've read.
Jerry Bridges shows us in this great book how Christians must depend on God's grace at all times and yet also striving with perseverance to pursuit holiness. We will never be perfectly holy in our present life, nevertheless it is God's will that we must always pursue such holiness so that we may be increasingly changed into His Son's image more and more everyday. This book will greatly humble and challenge every Christian to stop flirting with sin (however small it may be), and to start living a life that is pleasing to the holy God whom we worship and adore.

Excellent training for any Christian
This biblically founded book is one of the greatest motivating books I have ever read. Jerry Bridges, through illumination from God, reveals what holiness is... and what that means to a Christian life. The book opposes legalism, and simply guides the reader on how to pursue God's Will in their lives. The book has helped me become more fearful, and yet, thankful towards God, but most of all loving Him for saving us and giving us the stregth and desire to please Him by leading a holy life. I plan on buying another book by Jerry Bridges entitled the Practice of Godliness. I have heard it is as motivating, life -affirming, and Sprirt-driven as this one.

What Are God's Role & Our Role in Our Pursuit of Holiness?
Someone has well said that nature forms us, sin deforms us, penitentiary reforms us, education informs us, the world conforms us, but only Jesus transforms us. But how does Jesus transform us to be holy and more like Him? Do we simply "let go and let God"? What should we rely on God to do? And what are our responsibilities in this pursuit of holiness? These are questions addressed by this book.

This book is helpful for every Christian desiring to be Christ-like. Many are complacent with merely entering heaven if they died. Of course, we're not saved by what we do but by the perfect righteousness of Christ imputed (credited) to us by faith. But pursuit of holiness is not an option for Christians because saving faith creates within them the desire to be Christ-like and holy.

Jesus said, "You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free." (John 8:32) By knowing the truth of who we are in Christ, of His supernatural power available to us to overcome temptation and sin, and of the victory we have in Christ over the bondage of sin (Rom. 8:2), we're then able to *claim* this truth and be free--no longer slaves to sin (Rom. 6:17-18). This book helps me in that it teaches the Biblical truth of who we are in Christ, what we should rely upon *God* to do, and what we should accept as *our* responsibilities in our pursuit of holiness. It also shows us the nature and tactics of the enemy, how to express our dependence on the Holy Spirit (i.e. through Scripture memorization), practical scriptural principles for personal disciplines, how to put sin to death, among other things. It's a life-changing book. (A sequel to this book which is also good is "The Practice of Godliness").

Secrets was awesome!
I'm an almost-14-year-old girl who loves reading Christian romances, especially by Robin Jones Gunn. This book (and the rest of the Glenbrooke series) is great. I especially like Kyle. He's the ideal & perfect guy. I love how this and the rest of the Glenbrooke books are linked in certain ways to each other and the other books in the Glenbrooke series. It's cool because Christy Miller is mentioned, and you keep seeing people like Kyle and Jessica in the later books.

If only there really WAS a Glenbrooke...
I love this book! I've read the Christy Miller (and most of the Sierra Jensen) books, and heard Ms. Gunn had written some adult novels. I picked this one up, started it, and absolutly could not put it down! This is a great Christian romance novel, not just about the love between Jessica & Kyle, but the romance between a woman and God. Robin Gunn has written some great alternatives to the trashy romance novels that seem to be so popular today. I reccomend this (and the rest of the series) to anyone...mothers, daughters, any woman in the mood for a good love story without all the filth. I loved "Secrets", shared it with my Mom, and now we both wish there really was a Glenbrooke. Read this, and I know you'll find yourself wishing the same thing.

A Quiet Place Where Souls are Refreshed...
I stumbled upon this series while I was looking for another good book or series at my local Christian store. This first book, Secrets, got me in to it in the 1st chapters and after that I was hooked. I would recommend this series to anyone who loves to read Christian romance and like the back of the book says, "Welcome to Glennbrooke, a Quiet Place Where Souls are Refreshed" these sweet books will refresh your soul and leave you feeling good inside! :)

Here are some other books that I would HIGHLY recommend!

I Would also recommend:
By Robin Jones Gunn: The Whole Glennbrooke series & for teens The Christy Miller and Sierra Jensen Series.
By Dee Henderson: The O'Malley Series (with its amazing prequel "Danger in the Shadows")
By Tim Lahaye and Jerry B. Jenkins: The Left Behind Series.

Stuart Woods- White Cargo
Stuart Woods 1988 novel "White Cargo" is an excellent read. A fast paced story that keeps the reader captivated, in my case I literally could not put this book down. This is the story of Wendell Catledge aka Cat a millionaire who made his money through invention of a printer. Catledge and his wife Katherine and daughter Jinx fall prey to what appears to be piracy while yachting on the coast of South America. Catledge wakes up in hospital to find his yacht has sunk and wife and daughter are dead. Catledge returns to the states and is contempating an end to his own life, when he recieves a phone call one day, and hears Jinx's voice. Catledge now has a new reason for living, to find his daughther and to avenge his wife's killers. Catledge begins a relentless search which will lead him deep into the Columbian Jungle. To say much more would be giving away a good story, one more thing I would like to say is I really liked the characters in this novel like Bluey Holland, Meg and even Prince a more sophisticated villian. "White Cargo" is an enthralling novel which will not disappoint, with a timless value to it, highly recommended.

Daddy....
Cat Catledge is just beginning to come to terms with the murders of his wife and daughter when the phone rings. One word - "Daddy"- and then the phone is hung up. That phone call leads Cat and the readers on a journey through Colombia as Cat tries to find and rescue his daughter, Jinx.

Drug trafficers have fallen out of favor as the villians of choice in thriller fiction. This book, written in 1988, was written at the height of their popularity and is still a darn good read. Cat is a good hero - a rich computer printer inventor who has plenty of vulnerabilities (first and foremost his family). Woods provides an great group of friends to fill the gaps for Cat. I particularly liked Bluey, the renegade Australian pilot.

Since Jinx was kidnapped by pirates off the Colombian coast, much of the book takes place in that country. Woods does a nice job of telling the reader about the various cities without falling into the traveloge trap.

And, yes, the pages turn easily. A fun read for all (except, maybe, the fathers of beautiful eighteen year old daughters).

A True Page Turner
This book was my first Stuart Woods novel that I've read and I wasn't disappointed. The action starts off quickly and keeps you turning pages well into the night. I would recommend this book to anyone who is interested in the crookedness of South America, the drug trade, action, and mystery. Definitely a quick read.

Best Book
This book was reeeeeeaaaaaalllllllyyyyy gggooooodddd and it was introduced to me by my mother who recommended it and from then on i never looked back. i have read as many of his books as i can find and my favourite one in the discworld series is Mort, my fav in the truckers series is Truckers. Wings is about these little blokes who lived in a department store and then in a quarry and now they have to escape from the quarry because the humans have decided to re-open it. Its just about their advendtures to get away. I'll stop there so as not to spoil the book for you. Definetely worth your while.

Hilarious WINGS
My Dad has been reading Terry Pratchett books and he thought I'd like this one. He was right! You should read this book , because it is very funny and exciting. The book is about three nomes that got stuck on Earth and need to take a space shuttle home. The nomes get a lot of useful help from Thing, a machine. But too bad when Thing runs out of "pow" (power)!
I don't have the first two books from this trilogy but I am getting them next!

Wings
Wings is a wonderful, fanciful tale. It is also the third book in a series and is best read in order. Terry pratchet's work is always strong enough to stand alone, but I wouldn't want to miss a single book from any of his series.

Perfect Story For Children
This book, though much different than the Disney movies, is a must read for kids who love action and fantasy books. The story gives ideas that we don't own our pets, they own us (Which may be true in some cases). I love this book and enjoyed reading it alone and to my kids.

A funny and exciting book
This book is quite different from the Disney movie, and therefore much better. Pongo's wife is not named Perdita, but Missus even though there is a Perdita here. Some of the names of the dogs have been changed as well and there are many events that happen here that didn't in the movie. Dodie Smith is a very funny writer and she makes you feel as if you are one of the characters. Read this book!

The Wonderful "Tail" of the Dalmatian Dogs Pongo and Missis
This book is amazing. It is very believeable although it is clearly fiction. This book is one of the best books I've read and believe me,I've read alot of books.

Although Disney did a wonderful job on adapting the book, the movie can't do it justice, because, unless you want another three hour movie, you can't get all the details in.

Like in the movie, Pongo and Missis (later know as Perdita) set out to find the pups. However, the book also has many sub-plots that the movie does not(ie. Mothers losing their kids and still loving them). It was the ovious thought put into the book that wasn't in the movie that inspired me to get the sequel, " The Starlight Barking", from amazon.com All in all, the book is a must have for dog lovers and those who liked the movie, you'll LOVE the book.

Agatha Raisin and the Murderous Marriage (Wheeler Large Print Book Series (Paper))
Published in Paperback by Wheeler Pub (1997)

Marriage Can Be Murder!
Agatha Raisin returns in the 5th book in the series, and is finally going to realize her dream of marrying James Lacey, her next-door neighbor. However, just before they can say "I do", her long-lost husband, Jimmy Raisin, returns to stop the wedding. James is shocked, having thought that Agatha was no longer married, and refuses to speak to her. However, James and Agatha must team up to find a murderer when Jimmy is found dead and they realize that they are the police's prime suspects. When each of the people they question ends up dead, it is a race against time to find the identity of the killer before he/she strikes again.

I adore this series set in the Cotswolds of England, and I cannot get enough of the character of Agatha Raisin! She has charmed me from the first book on, and I personally have felt that she was much too good for James Lacey. It is almost pitiful how Agatha has chased him only to loose him each time...although it is part of the fun of each book to see what antics she will be up to next. As Agatha grows as a character, I feel she only gets better. If you enjoy cozy mysteries, start reading this series today.

The first book in this series is "Agatha Raisin and the Quiche of Death". Enjoy!

"AGATHA IS GREAT"
Another good one by M C Beaton. I have enjoyed all the Agatha Raisin books I have read. In this one Agatha is finally getting to marry James Lacey. But, her first husband Jimmy Raisin shows up at the wedding. Agatha thought he was dead. Later Agatha pushes Jimmy into a ditch and he is found dead in the ditch. Agatha is suspected of murder. She and James Lacey start their usual round of questions and callin on people to try to find the killer. Other people start ending up dead after talking to Agatha and James. After another close call the killer is found. Will Agatha and James ever get together again. I guess we will have to read another book to find out. Beaton can write so that the people and the village come to life in your mind. You can just see the things as they happen. Am looking forward to the next one.

Agatha Raisin is unique
I have enjoyed the character development in this series. It helps to read the Agatha Raisin books in sequence although it is not necessary to enjoy each story. Agatha and James are complex characters and M.C. Beaton does an excellent job in their delineation. The villagers in this cozy mystery are lovable and reading the book is like living in a small village.
The plot of this book was interesting and the action well-paced. I couldn't put the book down until I finished it. The relationship of James and Agatha has reached a different level in this story. Being middle-aged, independent and set in their ways, their feelings for each other are bound to be mixed. They are likable and you care what happens to them.

Something for everyone!
Doug Wead's book on Presidential Children has something for everyone. It's a must-read for all History buffs... well researched, hundreds of references and source notes, facts not found in other books!
Parents will discover how to raise successful kids!
Teachers will find it an extremely helpful resourse book when teaching about our presidents. It brings the Presidential families to life.
Ladies, there's a whole chapter dedicated to WH weddings.
It's a well written, entertaining, & educational book with something for all!

Life and Lessons in the Fishbowl
Doug Wead is a master storyteller. In his latest book, he has scripted a fascinating look at presidential kids. It gave me a whole new perspective on such public lives. I think what pleased me most was that he focuses on lessons learned, rather than making a judgment about one part of a life and branding the presidential child in perpetuity. He tells stories of forgiveness and reconciliation, strength and service. I came away with new respect for presidential children who had been tarred with a cynical brush. Of course, he also throws in juicy gossipy bits about Alice Roosevelt Longworth and others to make his readers laugh. Thanks, Doug Wead, for a fascinating read.

Not just for history buffs
I have read most of the biographies writtern in recent years about America's first families but this book is by far one of the best. The first impression you will get is the amount of work that was put into the research. I have read all the biographies available on Washington, Lincoln, Grant, kennedy, Bush and yet there was information I never read in other books. The color and black/ white photographs are a nice touch.Doug Wead has done a really good job of telling the reader what became of these Presidental children after the White House.

The Mauritius Command (Thorndike Large Print Famous Authors Series)

Lucky Jack Aubrey Returns To The Indian Ocean
"The Mauritius Command", the fourth in the Aubrey/Maturin series of novels written by Patrick O'Brian, shows Captain "Lucky Jack" Aubrey several years after the events chronicled in "H.M.S. Surprise" in wedded bliss, but alas, without much of a fortune to support his growing family. Indeed, he is no longer on active command, but a Royal Navy captain on half pay. Stephen Maturin arrives bearing salvation in the form of a special mission to the Indian Ocean, along with Aubrey's temporary promotion to Commodore in command of a small squadron. What follows is one of the most exciting installments in the entire Aubrey/Maturin saga, and the start of an extended story arc which will take their fight against Napoleonic France and its allies throughout much of the Indian Ocean and the adjoining portions of Southeast Asia. Once more Patrick O'Brian delivers the goods, with his excellent, lyrical prose that seems more at home with the likes of Jane Austen than with contemporary authors of fiction.

First-rate REAL historical fiction!
This fourth novel in the Aubrey-Maturin series shows more narrative unity than the first three, which is partly a function of Jack Aubrey's now-exalted rank. As a newly promoted commander in a small sloop, and even as a post captain, he was at the beck of more senior officers. Now, as commodore in command of a squadron of several ships-of-the-line and lesser warships, plus a small herd of transports and Indiamen crowded with troops, he has reached a position of high command, with orders to capture the French outpost islands of Mauritius and La Reunion in the Indian Ocean. As Dr. Maturin privately notes in his diary, Jack was probably happier as a junior officer, with only his own ship and men in his direct responsibility; now he must manage other ships's captains at one remove, deal diplomatically with the Army, and oversee the installation of a new British governor. O'Brian hews closely to historical fact in narrating this little-known but complex campaign, and he also delves more deeply into the psychology of the supporting characters -- especially Lord Clonfort, a not unintelligent but very unhappy young commander apparently afflicted with bipolar disorder, who constantly seeks the approval of his own subordinates as well as his seniors. As true historical fiction, this volume is, for me, the most enjoyable in the series yet.

Aubrey hoists his pennant...
"The Mauritius Command" opens a few years after the end of "HMS Surprise". Jack has discovered married life to be very different than he imagined, & longs to be back at sea. The arrival of Stephen Maturin (& mushrooms) stirs the household to a frenzy.

This humorous beginning shows Patrick O'Brian's masterful abilities. In a few deft strokes, the past years are filled in with no heavy exposition or flashbacks, & the events to come are put into motion. Aubrey faces many new challenges in the course of "The Mauritius Command", having to learn to sooth battling egos, command while refraining from fighting, & create a fighting machine from almost nothing. His faithful follower Tom Pullings plays an expanded role in this tale as the captain of a transport & deus ex machina, while Stephen Maturin's political abilities overshadow his medical duties.

This is one of the most exciting Aubrey/Maturin novels, a real "Boys Own Life" type tale, full of gunplay, cat & mouse feints & hearty comradeship. The most exciting aspect of it is that it all really happened (of course with different protagonists!). Learn about a forgotten campaign of the Napoleonic wars & enjoy yourself in the process! Read "The Mauritius Command"!

More Than Friends (Eagle Large Print)
Published in Hardcover by Chivers North Amer (1994)
Author: Barbara Delinsky
Amazon base price: $24.95
Average review score:

Sam should have decked J.D. ! Wonderful characters!
This "marriage" between two families was both heartwarming and heartbreaking at the same time. Annie's patience with Sam and her friendship with Teke are what kept me turning each page with anticipation.

Barbara Delinsky did such a fantastic job drawing on each characters feelings, she made this story come alive.

I look forward to a sequel. It would be so great to read more on Jon and Leigh, and hopefully J.D. & J.S. will get what's coming to them

EXCELLENT, TOUCHING, WONDERFUL BOOK!!!!!!!!!
This was one of the best books I have ever read, EVER. Barbara Delinsky puts us right in there with the Popewells. She showed how Sam took responsibility for his actions and how one unfortunate, blurry incident changed everyone's life and brought out the good and the bad in every character. In addition, Barbara showed how mostly everyone has a skeleton in their closet. I absolutely loved the relationship Sam and Annie had - and, of course, routed for Teke and Grady to get together. JD, of course, was such an immature jerk. It angered me that although he defended Teke to his father, he so blatently, consistently, disrespected her to her face in front of the children. I thought "Coast Road" and "Together Alone" were excellent, but Barbara Delinsky outdid herself in "More Than Friends." I'll probably read it again in a few months. Barbara, please keep writing.

Excellent Book
I absolutely loved this book! I read it in only 3 days. The characters are so believable and real. You feel every anguished moment that the families are going through. Barbara Delinsky has a way of making you feel as though you really know these people. How my heart bled for Annie and how I thought J.D. was an awful baby. This is the second book I have read by this author and I have just purchased two more. She is great! You won't be disappointed by this book.

White Lion's Lady (Thorndike Large Print Romance Series)
Published in Hardcover by Thorndike Pr (Largeprint) (2003)
Authors: Tina St. John and Tina St John
Amazon base price: $27.95
Average review score:

Medieval romance at its best!
How can you not like Tina St. John's medieval romance adventures!?

WLL is another winner with Isabel on her way to her betrothed, an Earl chosen by her guardian, King Richard, only to be kidnapped by none other than Griffin of Droghallow. Her childhood hero. He has changed though; there is no more heroic and gallant behaviour from the once golden boy. Now it's only raw passion and disillusionment from a fallen angel, a lost soul. Sounds good? You bet!

In her third book, Tina St. John perfects a hero so courageous, dangerous, protective and sensual, I couldn't help but fall for him. Not only that, she toped it with a heroine who matches him in all actions and emotions, creating a perfect balance of exciting action scenes and loving tender ones. Nothing pretentious about Tina's style or her characters.

I highly recommend White Lion's Lady to all you medieval romance fans out there!

This author only gets better and better
White Lion's Lady is a superb medieval romance by historical romance author, Tina St. John! I swear, she only gets better with each book. WLL captivated me from the moment I read the first page in which Isabel de Lamere meets her "Lion," Griffin of Droghallow. Years later, Griff is the kind of man who will do anything for a price, even kidnap an heiress. So he does. However, the dangerous circumstances he finds himself in, the most potent of which are Isabel's obvious and bewitching charms, throws him into a whirlwind of danger and high stakes love as he and Isabel journey together through the middle ages and into each other's hearts. Now I cannot wait for Tina's next book, Black Lion's Bride! Highly, highly recommended.

Exciting medieval romance!
Prepare yourself for an exciting medieval romance you will not want to put down.

WHITE LION'S LADY is the 1st in a 2 part series.

Eighteen year old Isabel de Lamere, ward to the Crown, is on her way to her betrothed, Sebastian Montborne (who you will read about in BLACK LION'S BRIDE). On her way to the Montborne's she is abducted by Griffin, the White Lion. She does not realize at first that this is the man who she met first as a boy, the boy whose medallion she carries everywhere she goes. The boy she remembers represents honor and chivalry.

Unfortunately Griffin has become a hardened man, made to carry out tasks that are distasteful and each day wear at his soul. His evil step-brother now sets him out on the task of kidnapping Isabel. Upon returning Isabel to his step-brother, and being denied the bounty promised him, Griffin and Isabel escape and continue on to her betrothed. During this time, they fall into a forbidden love.

Tina St. John weaves an enchanting tale of love, acceptance, and high adventure. The chemistry between these two characters sizzles, and it is a delightful read that you won't want to miss.
