Quite simply "Excellent"
This book is one of the most comprehensive books I have read encompassing how the Dog's Mind works. It is extremely well written and leaves you with a greater understanding on how to interpret your dog's body language. As a student of Canine Behaviour, I have found this book an invaluable reference tool

Things you might not know than can help your Dog.
This is a very good basic book on caring for your Dog. It is an excellent reference for the concerns most of us have about our dogs. It is laid out very logically and contains a lot of information that is not included in other dog care books. I like the fact that the Vet explains things like how to prevent disease as well as what to do about it.

Great Book for Those Just Learning About Dog Training
I purchased this book for my son (age 14) when he received a puppy for his birthday. It is fantastic. The steps of dog training are explained in a very simple manner with lots of pictures. Both he and I used the techniques described in the book to train the puppy (a Sheltie). Within a few weeks, the dog was able to sit, give us his paw and lie down on command. I am going to buy another copy of this book to give to my brother and his wife, who just purchased a puppy.

if a cat owns you'll understand
I have to first to declare, that I'm owned by a cat, who turns 20 this year, and when I first saw Bruce Fogle's "The Secret Life of Cat Owners", I knew it would bring a whole new dimension to our relationship, and it didn't disappoint, not for one page! Set out in 90 questions and answers, it's an easy and fun way to digest such a subject from a true expert and all written in a unique "cat's speak" fashion. Cat Owners is a delight from cover to cover, I felt as I read this, I was emersed into a new world - and after having cats in my life since I was a wee lad, this made me think for and as a cat! If you wish to delevelop a whole new level of appreciation of your feline companion, your fury darling, your bed pal, then this unique title is for you. I will now get another copy for my neighbours so they can realise I haven't gone as nutty as they would think when they see me greet my four legged unconditional lover every time I come up the street. Buy your copy today, but don't tell your cat!

I would recommened this book to anyone who has a dog!
This book is very goods for the dog person who has everything or has just got their first dog.
I love the way you just read the back of the book to find a symtom like limping.
and go to the page it says and follow the chart given to see if your should take your dog to the vet or if it will pass.
But to be on the safe side if you feel you should take your dog to the vet then do so.

quick starter
This book has some really good "getting started" pointers for raising a puppy. I suggest also purchasing a more comprehensive guide (and I recommend "Making Friends: Training Your Dog Positively" by Linda Colflesh).
Nice book on puppies
The tips are very helpful and the pictures are very colorful... I love the paper material.. the content is nice.
Great Book!
I am a Sheltie breeder and am always looking for stuff to put into my puppy packs. This book is perfect! It has a great price (very important since I usually buy 10-15 books at a time) and it's full of color pictures and helpful information for the new owner of that fluffy puppy! I am back here again to buy another batch of these books!

Before training your dog, take the time to read this book!
As a dog owner and scientist, I have thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. I believe that many can benefit from the information included by this author. By going through the mechanics and function of the brain (most specifically a dog's) , I am better able to interpret my animals' behavior (good and not-good). I found the discussion of the dog's senses intriguing and enlightening. Furthermore, if during training you have ever wondered "why am I not getting through... this is soooo simple" or "why isn't he/she getting this", then I think that you will find an answer in the study of animal behavior. I hope someday to breed and professionally train dogs, and so the information on puppys' physiological and social/psychological development will come in very useful. If anything, I have learned how important early sensory stimulation on animals can be -- basically, how it can lead to a well-adjusted temperment. However -- buyers note: this is NOT a how-to dog train in "twelve easy steps" or in "5 days!" That is OK... it is not meant to be. I believe that dog owners and handlers should read such books as part of the overall training process. In my opinion, the best obedience training involves both the dog AND human learning. If you too believe that, then read this book -- it will give you a great start towards a successful relationship with your dog!
Truly The Best Dog Book
I have owned this book for over three years now and still think it is the best dog training/understanding book that I have ever seen. As a trainer of shelter animals and owner of 4 dogs I have seen almost every kind of "bad dog". Before getting this book I trained using the "commercially" prescribed techniques without a true understanding of the motivation behind the dog's behavior. After reading this book, I was able to develop my own methods tailored to each dog and have had great success. I would love to see every dog owner in the U.S. have a copy of this book as it would prevent a lot of animal abuse and neglect currently present here.
A truly miraculous book which demystifys dog behavior
This book is clearly and intelligently written. It provides absolutely fascinating insight on a dog's motivation and instinctive behaviors. I truly felt, as a first time dog owner, that after having read this book I was much better equipt to train and understand my dog. A must read for any dog owner!

Finally bought it, really good!
I have posted a review earlier, when I had not bought this book, but just looked at it, and, after having bought it and looked through it, it is far better than I expected.
With over 420 breeds and over 600 photographs, this book could make any dog-lover go mad! Excellent quality photos provide the reader with a very good idea of the size, weight and looks of each breed. Little, easy-to-read icons below the Facts provide the reader with information about the grooming, exercise and climatic needs of the dog, along with the temperament.
Short, but comprehensive, text provides the reader with an overview of the breed and the hunting and companion abilities.
Apart from all the various breeds, the whole structure and various characteristics of behaviour of dogs have also been explained. Dog food and dog products have also been printed and these would be of great help to new owners.
Buying a puppy is a big decision and, so, it has to be done carefully and this book is just right for it.
All in all, it's pretty amazing and I highly recommend it.

The BEST dog book out there!
This is an excellent book for dog lovers all over! It has many breeds in it- all of the common breeds, of course, but it also has popular growing mixed breeds like the bichon yorkie, and many very exotic sounding dogs like the pharoah hound. It shows the anatomy of the dog, and there is guide in it about how you should care for your dog. Each breed has a history next to it, and it tells you the personality of the dog and what its needs are. It also tells you what diseases or disorders that run in each breed, which is very helpful when you are deciding what breed of dog you want to buy. There are gorgeous photos and an incredible amount of information about dogs in this book. I recommend it to anyone who is interested in dogs!
Looked very good
I haven't bought this book yet, but I had a thorough look at it at the book store today, and, having owned loads of dog books, I can say from experience that this one looks very good. It has a looooooooooot of breeds; over 420, and the pictures are very good. The text, though short, provides necessary information on the breeds and basic facts are given in little boxes. It seems easy to find out what kind of temperament a dog has, which is important if you're planning to buy that particular breed. Grooming and exercising needs are also provided and I know how important that is. This book has different chapters, which make it easier to find the dog you're looking for, given the good labeling. It is very big and fat, but don't get fooled by that, for it is very interesting to look at. All-round, I would say that any dog-lover would love this book.
I am planning to buy this book tomorrow and I will be writing another review on it once I've had a chance to go through it better and read all the content. Another book I really liked, on dogs, was The Dorling Kindersley Handbook of Dogs or something, which is small, but very comprehensive and compact. Unfortunately, I do not have it any more, but I would definitely recommend it to someone who wants a small, but complete, dog book. I am now checking if Amazon.com has it and, if you would like to look at it (provided Amazon has it), please look for it. In the mean time, I'm checking out this one, too, and I hope it's good. I hope all this helped!
