A good and comprehensive guide to the region.
Many newer guides have been published about birds of this region, but this book still deserves its place on the bookshelf of anyone interested in birds of South-east Asia. Illustrations are good, and descriptions are detailed and mostly accurate. A bit bulky to carry in the field, but not a problem if you bring it in a backpack. The situation with forest fires in South-east Asia (especially Indonesia) is growing worse each year, so get out there and see some of these extraordinary birds while you still can!

A must-have
Any serious birder to the listed regions of this book would buy this book.

It is the best guide of the region so far with excellent plates and useful details. What I find especially useful, particularly for the raptors, is that they show illustrations of the birds in flight.

The drawings appear consistent and the bird's information at the back of the book is easy to access.

The birds are categorised according to their family which definately makes for faster checks and identification, which I find important when in the field.

The spine of the book though is a little week and you might want to have it rebound before it falls apart - especially with all the browsing that is to be.

Get it re-bound
This was the book that everyone who seemed to be serious used in Borneo, but if you are going to be out in the bush for more than a few days and make frequent use of field guides, consider having it re-bound before you leave -- many people I passed along the way were finding that the plate pages were starting to fall out.

A must for all palm enthusiasts
Overall it would say that it 's the excellent job that authors has put together all the description of American palm species. It would be welcome among serious palm collectors as well as reserchers.

The only thing I don't like about this book and I think it is controversial among palm colleectors is that the book tends to lump down many named species into a synonymous for example, a genus Coccothrinax or the palms in the Attalea Group. Though not all of the recorded species are really distinct from each other, many of them are quite different and should be separately treated at least in a variety level i.e., genus Acrocomia which authors has lumped from 26 recorded species inot only 2 species. This is however not explicitly stated there at all.

A must have!
This is probably the most useful book for anyone involved in plant identification, such as Forest Engineers, specially those working in tropical America, where one often encounters many kinds of palms in the field, but until now it was not easy to identify them, and palms are mostly overlooked because they have the reputation of being difficult to identify. This book changes it all, and it's definitely a must-have.

There are two more authors for this book!!!
I use this book for field work, and it seems not fair that a book of three authors, appears as a one-author book, I know the other two people and they are scientist and work in the palms (Arecaceae) as well as Mr Henderson.

About time!
It is about time AF Special Forces gets some recognition. While primarily intended for someone planning on entering AF Special Operations and wishes to prepare for the grueling indoctronation course, it offers an excellent regimine for keeping fit. All too often the public assumes that only Army, Marine and SEAL special forces demand a lot physically and the Air Force is "Soft". With a higher wash-out rate and longer, more intensive training required than any other Special Forces group, CCT's and PJ's often get applicants who fail within the first few days as they are not in condition. A great book for the fitness nut.

The Extreme Workout
I bought this book hoping to get information that taught me a little something about PJ's and what they go through to become one. And it full-filled my needs and exceeded my expectations. I am now on my second week of training with their workout plan and I am loving it and experiencing the change. Thanks

Excellent place to start...
During my first year of AFROTC, we worked out to the above mentioned 12 Weeks to BUDS. That was grueling in and of itself. I purchased this book to prepare for field training, and so far it's pretty decent. People have complained "where's the workout" - it says in the book that they compiled the information so you can mix and match a workout that is good for you. And you don't have to be a physical trainer to do this - the sets are there, the combinations of exercises are there - you simply have to do them. Finish this workout COMPLETELY and I guarentee the book will live up to what it says "you will be in the best shape of your life." Oh, and don't forget the running...

Honest and Detailed Assessment
First off, I must say that this book provides a valuable overview for those who are interested in investment management. It quickly gets to the point and is straightforward. The explanations of the difference between sell-side and buy-side are helpful as is the characterization of the industry's general structure.

But it is very appropriate to categorize the book as an overpriced appetizer (especially if you were to pay the full list price). I was highly disappointed in its size when it arrived. It's more like a big brochure with a nice cover than an actual book. To add insult to injury, the book has 109 numbered pages, but of those, there are 14 pages of pure advertisements (for additional Vault products or services), title page only, or blank pages. Furthermore, 12 of these numbered pages are glossary and/or valuation technique shortcuts, and there is one additional page of "About the Author". All of this reduces the number of truly substantive pages to roughly 82!

The book focuses mostly on the largest firms by assets and provides only one or two pages on specialist firms, which is really where many of the investment management jobs are. I enjoyed the book, but I scarcely felt like I knew any more about the topic than when I started. Most people will probably say it is worth owning but was rather disappointing.

Not bad, but less a carerr guide than expected...
This book lists itself as a carrer guide, which it is to a point. Some of the best portions of this rather thin book are the portions where a "day in the life of x" is explained and listed on a timeline type of thing. These sections give good insite into what it is to be an associate (post MBA) at several firms. However, there are only a couple pages of this. A majority of the book is very basic what is investment management. There is a subtle difference between what is IM and what does someone working in IM do? There is too much explanation of "in a bull market stocks go up" and "mutual funds invest in a bunch of stocks". Vault should focus on the career aspect more. They do have some interview questions that are good, but this could easily have been 1/2 the length and 1/4 the price and still had the same impact.

Good, Pithy, Overview of the Industry
This is a good, pithy overview of the investment management industry. I found this to be one of the better Vault guides that I've bought recently. In just over 100 pages, it covers the structure and history of the industry, companies in the industry, the typical jobs, and day-to-day tasks in those jobs. The guide doesn't cover interview prep or the specific knowledge required to do the job, but there are various other guides that cover that material. The only negative point that I can think of is that the book is slightly expensive for a ~100 page paperback; however, I found it well worth the price.

casual reading only
The book contains a few good illustrations, but as a source of reference material it is sorely lacking. The author describes only a small number of fairies and he has the habit of jumping to conclusions that depart from traditional fairy lore.

Just Fabulous
This little book gets right to the meat of Irish folklore and the various sorts of fey. Includes the mythological variance between tales from differing counties and tries to reconcile the countless spelling/name variations and the differing significance attached to various elementals. The accounts and tales are both fanciful and straightforward and carry none of that phony, fadish, fluffy bunny fru fru that poisons serious examination and/or gentle celebration of our Good Neighbours.

Photos & Stories From When Timber Was King
This is a classic for anyone interested in the history of logging in the Pacific Northwest. Together with Andrews other companion book, "This Was Sawmilling" the reader will gain a great understanding how trees were harvest, transported to mills and converted into the resources which built this Country. There's hundreds of wonderful photos from the woods along with many contraptions which loggers created to make their tasks either easier or more likely, more productive. Can you imagine a raft 1000 feet long and 30 feet wide and deep made out of logs laced together with huge chains? These structures containing millions of board feet of trees would be created in the far Northwest and floated down the coast to San Diego, CA and further. There's photos in the book. There's a great photo of a logger standing on the top of a tree hundreds of feet in the air just after he has completed preparation for high-lead logging. The book is separated into geographic regions from British Columbia and each of the States of the Northwest. It has numerous poems written about loggers. (Please don't call them lumber-jacks. I never heard a man who works in the woods called a lumber-jack all my years going up in Oregon. Yet a recent TV show about the worlds most dangerous jobs constantly referred to them a lumber-jacks.) Distraction of this classic includes the lack of a table of contents, index, and the disconnect between the photos and the stories. Which is to be expected. Andrews rarely had photos of the people in the stories and vice versa. Why this short-comings. Superior Publishing printed many of these books by folks who simply wanted to document the hard work of others. Regardless whether it was logging, railroading, or shipping they were willing to publish the books. Thank goodness they did or we'd never have had these classics. If you have an interest in the history of logging this book will be a great addition to your collection.

Enjoyable & Different Account of the Waterloo Campaign
This was a very pleasing and easy to read account of the Waterloo Campaign, a bit different in style in that it takes you on a tourist type walk around the battlefield. The authors have produced a very well researched account of the battle and what you may find there now if you visited the site of the fighting. I was unsure if I would like this style of writing but I found it very enjoyable, with decent maps to follow the action and to find things present on the battlefield today. The photos and drawings were excellent and well chosen to assist in the narrative of the book. If you are planning to visit this great battlefield this book would be of great assistance. A delight to read!

Excelent for young to middle age to stay in good shape
I purchased this book so I could stay in shape and compete with the younger kids in the youth sports I Coach. This book is excellent and easy to read and follow. Good Pictures and great routines for beginner to advanced. This book got me in the mood to excersize and keeps me there.

A book worth reading for the aspiring SEAL!
This book is worth a read if you are intending to become a Navy SEAL or are just trying to get in shape. It contains beginning and intermediate levels; although, it lacks an advanced level. This books workout programs take no mor than two hours a day. I thought it was worth the money.

A solid primer on Navy Seal Conditioning
This book is an excellent primer on Navy SEAL conditioning. Seems to be pimarily for people interested in setting the stage for the kind of intense training that being a SEAL entails without demanding that they subordinate their entire lives to a Navy SEAL's fitness priorities. Basically, I'm this type of person. I have no chance of matching the physical prowess of a Navy SEAL, and thank heavens this book doesn't require me to. What it does is open the door to using the kinds of exercises that will keep me in great shape and even enable me to raise my workout intensity a notch or two without severely altering my lifestyle. The workouts are all straightforward and well-presented, and I felt comfortable mixing them into my regimen. Pretty cool. I recommend it.
