An outstanding tool for improving soccer skills!
Cobi Jones is the soccer player kids watch in the United States. He is their hero. This book will help the beginner through advanced increase their skills. The format of the book is very user friendly. First, the reader learns some valuable information about Cobi Jones, then he takes you step by step through all of soccer's skills. Mr. Jones goes over the rules of the game, then stresses the need for warming up and details some exercises to do just that. He also emphasizes fair play. Each chapter then discusses and demonstrates a soccer skill. Mr. Jones offers excellent graphics appropriate for kids, and gives tips to enhance the skill. To complete each chapter skill, the champion provides games for perfect practice. This book is a very personalized approach to soccer instruction derived from a book. Educational and a perfect gift for kids this Christmas
I loved all the detailed soccer tips I could share with my kids when I coach their AYSO teams. Cobi is their favorite professional athelete and his instruction really influences my kids in a positive light both on and off the field.

Read a Dictionary Straight Through? Yup!
A wonderful reference! The book is well written and explains how many myths across the globe are connected (myths about a flood, the sun, the moon, etc.). Anyone interested in the study of mythology should have this book on their shelf. For the Pagan readers out there, while this is not directed at Pagans (in other words, you won't learn how to cast a circle, etc.) I would very highly recommend it to understand the mythology surrounding your particular path, and how it relates to other cultures. Just about every culture is given a place in this book--from the various Native American cultures (North, Central and South) to the Celts, Middle East, Asian, and many more.

Bottom line: A mythology lover's dream.

Librarian's Favorite
This is a very thorough, yet readable, book that I use all the time in helping students that come to our Library. It's amazing how many times I've used this book. It seems to span so many subject areas. I would recommend it for any reference collection that serves high school and college students.

The best guide to the best hike
The 200-mile trail along the Minnesota edge of Lake Superior may be the best hike in the United States. Almost anyone would agree it's among the top 10. And Guide to the Superior Hiking Trail is the best guide.

It has all of the details you need to know to hike the trailk in safety. Plus, it has information about geology, scenery, habitat, birds and animals.

Superior guide for a superior trail
This awesome trail is broken down step by step with great hints, tips and ideas as to what to see where and when to go. Definitely not your typical boring trail guide, and it has VERY readable maps. Over two hundred miles of the North Shore are clearly described...so get off the computer and head to Duluth!

Awesome!
This easily readable, complete account of the origins of the Southeast United States pulls no punches. It is fascinating.

I am an unabashed Andrew Jackson admirer. But how he ever got away with what he did confuses me. Aaron Burr was charged with treason and tried four times for only thinking about what Jackson executed with impunity. Timing, as they say, is everything.

Frontier justice, combined with an officially unsanctioned invasion of undisputably Spainish soverign territory, is accomplished without so much as a truely serious international whimper. Jackson simply ignored and crushed ALL domestic opposition. This event has all the improbable content of the most outrageous novel: land based buccaneering, genocide, invasion, forced removal, betrayal and, most of all, proof that in the early stages of this part of what was going to become a major cornorstone of the future United States, that certain political sections of early America's hierarchy believed that might made right. Absolutly no democratic ideals here.

I have never read anywhere what this book made me feel but I truely believe this was Jackson's first formal execution of his and other's concept of Manefest Destiny.

The authors are excellent. The subject matter is riviting. The local history is fascinating. Jackson is an American original. With all the good he did for his country he had to know that to execute this plan he needed safe harbor in the highest levels of the US government. Thank God he was on our side.

Great--the only comprehensive book on the 1st Seminole War.
An often forgotten episode in American history was the United State's pursuit to gain Florida. Troubles on the border allowed Andrew Jackson to come in at remove the Creek and Seminole people. He invaded a foreign territory and executed citizens of a third county while there. His actions were unauthorized (but with the blessings of the President), but he still got away with it.

This is one of the few books that covers the First Seminole War. The authors have done their research and used sources that have been ignored in the past. Many factors went into this conflict, and they are all examined. All the political aspects in Washington City, as well as ramifications from the Fort Jackson Treaty of 1815 that disinherited the Creeks.

The overall impression is that Jackson knew what he wanted and would not let anything get in his way. He pulled off an obviously illegal operation, and got away with it all.

500 Degrees in the Shade: Every Teen Feels the Heat
Published in Paperback by Pacific Press Publishing Association (1993)
Author: Andrew Demsky
Amazon base price: $8.95
Used price: $3.97

A must read for teens and those who work with them.
I work at a boarding academy and found the book insightful for teens facing questions about dating, coming of age, and finding their identity. One can only assume that Demsky was speaking from true experience when reading his comical, yet thought provoking, tale of Benny. If you have a teen or work with teenages this book is a must read.

Big Cats
This 80-page book is filled with amazing photographs of big cats. It provides an over-view of big cat anatomy, and goes on to explain the individual characteristics of the major big cat species, from tigers to bobcats to ocelots. I also just love the variety and beauty of the pictures.

Birds of the Solomons, Vanuatu, and New Caledonia
This is an excellent, one-of-a-kind field guide. Not since the 1940s has any book on this area of the Pacific appeared, let alone such a beautiful, usable field guide. The illustrations, maps and text are both accurate and up-to-date. The authors, highly reputable ornithologists of international stature, are to be congratulated on their efforts in this little-known area of the Pacific, historically and currently beset with political strife.

Don't Walk a Texan Beach Without it!
Mrs Andrew's Books are alaways a jewel. I have the second printing of this book and have read through this one. I admit I perfer the earlier editions; large books with lots of info, but you certainly wouldn't call them field guides. This book is, and next to Abbot's large American Shells this is probably the most comprehensive regional guide to American Shells.

As a little side note as a kid I shelled most of east and central Texas beaches. I became very familiar with the various species on the different beaches. I did find a few odd shells further north than were listed in her book and some of the shells she lists as fairly common seem much less so to me (I told her as much so! :)) . But this book is simply top notch. And no, I won't tell you where I find my Scothch Bonnets and Atlantic Deer Cowries!

A Field Guide to the Native Edible Plants of New Zealand

An easy book to study while in the great outdoors!
Well this book follows a clean and simple formula by not being too technical, but just enough to make it a herbal boffins delight. From the colour photos to the historical overviews of the Maori people's use of the many plants reviewed, you get a sense of mastery of the subject matter the author has. There's some humour added for good measure when you read the results of using selected herbs. The illustrations are well presented and typical of good botanical reference guide books. Locally in N.Z. this book out performs above Culpepper ( who is too archaic and olde worlde) if you catch my drift. It also is better than "A Modern Herbal" by Mrs Grieve because this book delivers N.Z. specific plant usage history from people of the early Maoris to more recent elders of the surviving tribes. I liked it so much that it should have been my work! The best aspect of the book is the historical use and usage of the plants. So, from a research point of view it comes to the customer/reader with evidence based medicine, (herbally; that is). Finally, if you can get your hands on a copy of this manual as I call it, then take it to the test and eat out in the bush or coastland. It is a smaller parallel to "Plants and Health" by A.C.Sas ( which is a tome by comparison and not so transportable as a field guide when in the great outdoors, as we Kiwis would say). Bon Appetit dear readers.
