Concise & Clear
A remarkably concise and clear intoduction to client/server application development with VB. A good first book to read before you get into the details of coding.

Best book on Visual Basic 5!
This book is what I've been looking for! It covers it all, from the Visual Basic environment itself to how to write a database application. Excellent examples and the language is very easy to read. Great book!

Helpful advice, helpfully given.
I started using this book in my philosophy classes as a supplement for student writing and thinking. The book uses Bloom's taxonomy to build student thinking and writing from the simply understanding what you are reading (being to able to paraphrase and summarize) to applying it, analyzing and evaluating it, and finally synthesizing it with your own beliefs. Edwards' explanations are short but very much to the point, and she includes examples both good and bad to clarify her ideas. Her basic belief I think is right on: the best way to understand a topic is to have to write about it. More people need to see this connection between thought and paper! Edwards never talks down to you either. This gives the basics principles clearly and concisely, and is an excellent way to improve philosohical thinking and writing!

Excellent
This book is excellent. It belongs in the same category as Strunk and Whit's book on writing. It is only 106 pages long. But the author uses every inch to deliver sound advice about writing philosophy essays in particular and other kinds of essays in general. In seperate chapters, she explains and illustrates the different kinds of essays that are assigned in college philosophy courses: essays for understanding, application, analysis, evaluation and systhesis. She even discusses how to research philosophy problems and take philosophy exams. She must have worked very hard to pack so much sound advice into such a slim volume. Any philosophy student who "understands" and applies her principles will enhance his GPA dramatically. This book should be required reading in every undergraduate and graduate philosophy course.

Heartwarming, touching and brings tears of joy to your eyes
This book, the third book in the Anne of Green Gables series, tells the story of Anne Shirley coming to Redmond College. During the four years,Anne learns a lot of things about life, and her adventures are both funny and heartwarming. People who have read Anne's previous adventures in Anne of Green Gables and Anne of Avonlea will enjoy another wonderful Anne of Green Gables story, set in the beautiful, lush green Prince Edward Island,Cananda. This book is also better understood if you have read Anne's other adventures in the previous books. After they have read this book, they might want to go on and read Anne's life after college in Anne of Windy Poplars. You might want to read all the way up to the eighth book which tells about Anne's daughter, all grown up!

the only novel that realy touched me
This novel is realy rare. It's tellin' us a story about friendship that never dies.I'd love to have a friend as Honorine or Sendy and especialy to have such an adventure as thay had. This is a story about a doll, the most beautiful doll in the world.I believe that Bella exists and I would like to find it. I'm a Serbian and my English is kind of bad,I can find out anything about Anne Syfret in Belgrade. Please, help me. I'd like to know is there another so powerful Anne's novel. In my opinion Dostoyevsky, Goethe and all the other "great" writers cannot even compare to Anne Syfret's writting.

Edward Thomas and similar poets: poetic treasures to find !
This book is a very worthwhile companion volume to another recent book by Anne Harvey, "Adlestrop Revisited: an Anthology Inspired by Edward Thomas's Poem" (1999). Notable among the poets/"elected friends" are: Eleanor Farjeon (friend and literary adviser of Edward Thomas, and author of "Morning Has Broken" - set to the music of the traditional Irish hymn "St Patrick's Breastplate" and popularised in the 1970s by Cat Stevens); Other poets such as Ivor Gurney, Walter John De La Mare and William Henry Davies and Robert Frost, to name a few. "Elected Friends" is a book to be treasured and frequently "dipped into".

This is a very well researched and most interesting read.
Queen Mary was the consort of King George V and the paternal grandmother of Queen Elizabeth II. She was a great influence on Queen Elizabeth II and the resemblance between Queen Mary and her famous granddaughter is uncanny. Queen Mary was the daughter of one of Queen Victoria's cousins, Princess Mary Adelaide of Cambridge. Queen Mary's father was the Duke of Teck (a morganatic son of the heir apparent to the throne of the Kingdom of Wuerttemberg - now part of modern Germany). Queen Mary was destined to marry Prince Albert Victor, Duke of Clarence and Avondale (eldest son of Edward VII and Queen Alexandra) but he died before any marriage could take place. Queen Victoria wanted this marriage badly. Queen Mary at this time was Her Serene Highness, Princess Victoria Mary of Teck. To have lost the heir to the throne of England was a great loss. Queen Victoria knew that this Princess was worth keeping and soon Prince Albert Victor's younger brother George was married off to his late brother's fiancee. They eventually became King George V and Queen Mary on the death of King Edward VII in 1910. The marriage was a success and for Princess Victoria Mary of Teck it was a great rise from Serene Highness to Royal Highness and eventually Queen Consort. Queen Mary herself had a very interesting early family life. Her brothers were interesting characters as well as her parents. One of her brothers married King George V's cousin HRH Princess Alice, Countess of Athlone while another caused Queen Mary much embarrassment with his gambling and other dubious activities. Queen Mary came from German stock and it is interesting to read about her German relatives. Her own married life is of much interest and of course her children are well known. She was the granddaughter-in-law of Queen Victoria, the daughter-in-law of Edward VII and Queen Alexandra, the wife of George V and the mother of King Edward VIII and King George VI. Her life spanned a most turbulent period and she was a solid rock in the life of the British Royal family, providing a sense of security to the British Monarchy particularly during the abdication crisis. This is a very well researched book. It is well worth the read.

The Lives and Deaths of Shelley & Byron
If you're interested in the life of Edward John Trelawny, you'll have to look elsewhere. Suffice it to say that Tre' (as his friends knew him) was a privateer, a scoundrel, a lover of poetry, a freedom-fighter and a loyal friend of the most prolific literary talents of the romantic period. "Records of Shelley, Byron and the Author" is an account, not of Trelawny's extraordinary life & adventures, but of the two men that helped make that life so extraordinary. In his own words, he tells of the secret lives of Byron and the Shelley's, their romp through sunny Italy and the tragic death of Percy in the coast of Spezzia. The tale continues as Tre' follows Byron to the bloody civil war in Greece, where Byron too dies. To his credit, though, it is never "Trelawny's tale", but "Byron and Shelley's tale" as told by Trelawny. This deep, insightful book shows the poets as only a close friend could. Yet throughout, one can not help but love Trelawny himself: the man who supported the impoverished Mary Shelley to her dying day... the man who bought a slave for $10,000 only to set him free... the man who reached into the embers of Shelley's pyre, withdrawing his heart. If you love the poetry of Byron and Shelley & have even a passing interest in the men behind the legends, then Trelawny's memoirs are a must-read.

Spirit of Place
Spirit of Place is a beautiful book, matching breathtaking pictures of Prince Edward Island with the beautifully penned words of Lucy Maud Montgomery. Her love of this magical island is obvious through this book, and its pictures of Cavendish beach, Lover's Lane, the red cliffs, and the sea, among many other spots is a great way of capturing the magic. A great way to understand how much and exactly why Montgomery loved Prince Edward Island so very much.
