DeBono's "Breadth" Has Plenty of Depth!
Edward DeBono's program of thinking skills brings a common sense approach for teaching thinking to students. Connecting the activities with "real life" situations is easy and fun for them. I've found that the more I use the strategies, the more ways I think of to use them! These skills and strategies should be useful to students throughout their school careers and beyond. The program has certainly helped my students formulate conclusions based on logical thinking rather than "knee jerk" reactions. It provides opportunites for kids to look at various viewpoints, examine similarities and differences, consider pluses and minuses about ideas, etc. I use the lessons weekly and will continue to do so.

A very interesting way of learning about our thought process
I have been using this book when trainning managers. It is a very usefull help for people who needs to understand their own way of thinking in different circumstances, and, at the same time, helps them to undertand other people emotions and cognitive responses. Excellent. A must read for anyone wishing to be smarter.
I have read every one of Edward de Bono's books. This is a must read for any adult or teenager wishing to be "clued in." If you want to "get it", get this book and read it cover to cover. You'll learn how to think from different sides. Most amazing of all, you'll learn how to stop thinking long enough to think about how you're thinking. Get it?

Teaching With Music Through the Church Year

Highly regarded book
This book is highly spoken of by the participants in the adrenal threads of the thyroid discussion group at Healthboards.com. (Dr. Wilson's book, on the other hand, is considered interesting but not agreed with 100%).

Other hormone-related recommendations: for learning about thyroid problems, I highly recommend Mary Shomon's book as the best place to start. For a dense but incredibly comprehesive look at women's hormone issues, you can't beat Dr. Vliet.

If you have FMS, CFIDS, Addisons or low blood sugur--buy it.
"I feel wiped out--dead tired all the time." "The least little thing leaves me exhausted." "I can't even make the bed without collapsing." "The weakness, dizziness and brain fog are the worst."

If you've ever said these things to your doctor, or had a patient say them to you, then you need to own, "Safe Uses of Cortisone." This book is not about learning to get by and accept less out of life. It's not about using gentle new age exercises and expensive herbs to get over a serious medical condition. "Safe Uses of Cortisone" is about using safe, sane, normal, natural levels of adrenaline to correct very real and measurable medical problems.

While there is a fair amount of medical jargon in the book, the writing style is approachable, clear and easy to follow. For example, at the beginning of "Chapter 2: Sources of Confusion," Jefferies writes, "That cortisone and hydrocortisone are normal hormones of the adrenal cortex implies that in physiological dosages they must be safe." Doctors, and those with an interest biology, will have no trouble following the text.

Dr. Jefferies, with 1,000 patient years of experience using cortisone therapy, explains the sources of confusion about cortisone, the significance of normal adrenocortical function and accepted uses of physiological dosages. Then he goes on to discuss using cortisone in gonadal dysfunction, rheumatic disorders, allergies and other autoimmune disorders. He closes with chapters on respiratory infections and other conditions that could benefit from physiological dosages of glucocorticoids.

Them there is some big words, but well worth reading for anyone with chronic fatigue, allergies, Fibromyalgia, acne, mood swings, exercise intolerance, horrible menstrual periods or low blood sugar.

In this book, Dr. Jefferies makes an excellent case for the safety of cortisone in doses that mimic our natural levels. One thing he doesn't talk about is cost. The cost of cortisone is shocking--shockingly low. In 1998 dollars, without any help from insurance, this life saving hormonal therapy cost between $10 and $30 per month.

Buy this book. In fact, buy two copies and give one to your doctor or local library.

You don't have to get old to be wise
This book is simple, inspiring, creatively written and a must read for young people especially school students.

Yes, we all think wisdom can be accumulated through life experiences. It's true, when you grow old, you'll gain more wisdom. But on the other hand, as De Bono pointed out, wisdom in fact can be learned, adapted and created. The clue is we need to know how to think and choose how to live our lives. Read this book and you'll know how you can be wise earlier than other.

One interesting thing about this book is the way it's written. There is no sequence or chapter. It's just broken into many paragraphs with lots of simple illustrations to aid reader to understand the points it conveys. You can pick any page to read at any time and still get a completed message regarding a specific topic. Even if you read the same paragraph again in another time, you'll get refreshed or gain new insight for you have reached new level in your life.

SMOOTH-SAILING INFO-BOOK: FOR BEGINNERS
"Microsoft .NET XML Web Services Step-by-Step" is a straightforward text, which beginners and intermediates should enjoy learning from. Everything about this book (including its .NET Components coverage) is simplified. Anybody who has a vague understanding of XML and WSDL can cope comfortably with it. It is that reader-friendly!
The book offered flexible presentations on the correlations of XML and .NET programming. In fact, its primary objective is to enable readers understand the interdependence, which exist between the two technologies.
This is a fine, smooth-sailing, info-book; only that it has very little to offer non-beginners. Advanced learners need not waste money on it.

Highly recommended for people who has (or will have) VS.NET.
If you have a knowledge of VB or C#, this book does a pretty good job teaching you how to create your own Web service and use other out there on the Internet, even if you don't have prior experiences.

This book assumes you have VS.NET. If you don't have it, it won't be helpful. VS.NET makes using and especially creating Web Services easy and this book tells you how easily you can do it.

Here are why I think the book is good.

* Presentation is clear. You'll know what you'll be learning in each chapter.

* Sample code is provided on the web.

* No talking down.

* The authors really mean "step-by-step". Little rooms for mistakes.

Bad things.

* Because the book explains the basics, you may be able to find all the information on the Web. You'll probably need more time searching and filtering them, though.

good book!
This is a good book for everyone to learn XML web service! It is very straightforward and easy to understand! When reading this book and following the instructions step by step, I learn a lot of concepts and understand the basic ideas of XML web service! After reading this book, you can read the advanced books about XML service! I really recommend this book to all of you!

The complexity of badness
This is a novel that deals not just with envy. Elizabeth and Ruth are cousins, and Elizabeth gets adopted by Ruth's parents when her own parents are killed. The girls grow up as sisters, but all along Ruth develops an incredible ill for Elizabeth, even though she doesn't do anything to provoke that resentment. Ruth makes it her life's mission to destroy Elizabeth. Her dream is to see her in pain, suffering and humiliated. She resorts to extreme manipulations and convoluted schemes to achieve that purpose.

Ruth is an amazing character, who personifies badness in a thought-provoking way. Her selfishness, envy and greed are almost incomprehensible. How can a human being harbor such hate for someone who has never done anything wrong? This novel made me think and think about the issue. Is it possible that people are born bad? So many times i've heard that we are all born good, and it's circumstances that make us bad. Did Ruth turn bad when she saw her parents combing Elizabeth's hair? Was that the moment when Ruth became jealous of her cousin? What happened in subsequent years, how did that badness grow?

Almost as amazing are Elizabeth's reactions to her sister's attacks. As evil as Ruth is, so is Elizabeth gracious and forgiving. Elizabeth summarizes her philosophy of life during their final meeting, a cathartic episode for Ruth, who is deeply changed after that.

A fascinating, disturbing novel that i highly recommend.

obsessions can be fatal
I see this as a story of girl, Ruth, who carried burden of deprived childhood, deprived in an unusal way(being too lucky/capable). It develps in to a dream to see her cousin and adopted sitestr Elizabeth suffer in pain, in all possible secretive ways. On the other hand Elizabeth has practiced to love Ruth instead of fighting her, She didn't figure this out till Elizabeth told her of her strategy at a very late stage in their lives. If Damage is a good book, this is an excellent one.

Captivating and wonderfully written
Josephine Hart has a superb way with words. As a novelist, her writing is almost poetic; she can say in one paragraph, what takes Pat Conroy several pages. This novel, her second, is deeply psychological, mostly taking place in the mind of the main character. Unlike her first novel, Damage, it should not ever be made into a film. The book is short. I enjoyed it immensely.
