THE fracture care reference
Felt by many to be the Gold standard in orthopedic fracture care. The text is comprehensive, providing in-depth literature reviews and the authors prefered method of treatment. The text formatting style makes it difficult to quickly/easily obtain the "need to know" information regarding a particular topic. Overall, well worth it.

A mystery solved
With similarities to The Elves and the Shoemaker comes The Secret of the Stones, a folktale based on African and African-American narratives. The illustrations transport the reader to the Ozark mountains. Each day from sun-up to sun-down a childless couple, John and Clara, tend the cotton and vegetables before retiring to their simple meal--peas, okra, corn bread. One evening on the long walk home, Clara stoops to pick up two white stones. She plans to use them to whet her knives and instead brings a mystery into their home. The next evening they find the clothes ironed, wood sawed, floor swept, corn pounded, fire made, and the supper things laid out. Not even a footprint is left. Aunt Easter sends them on an errand to solve the mystery and possibly change their lives. An enchanting book to share.

Serenity for Every Day; Complete New Testament with Psalms
The parallels made between the 12 steps and the Gospel is enlightening and encouraging. This Bible has been extremely helpful and comforting in my recovery and walk with the Lord. I already own one copy and am buying another copy for a friend of mine working on her sobriety. The format is easy to follow and understand. The resource information is invaluable.

IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR INFORMATION ON JOAN DAVIS OR...
If you are looking for information on 5 great comedic attresses who haven't always gotten their due, then this book is for you. It has information and photos on Joan Davis, Martha Raye, Marjorie Main, Judy Canova and Phyllis Diller. I particularly got this book for the information about Joan Davis. I've found very little information about her or her "I Married Joan" series. Although, it didn't have too many details about that program, it did have a lot of information about her and her films, as well as 33 pages of photos of her. The rest of them are covered the same. If you can still get this book, if you are a fan of any of these "Slapstick Queens" you won't be disappointed in this book.

Fascinating, multi-faceted journey
I found this a compelling piece of writing. The starting point is certainly the life of an individual, i.e, James Beard. However, into that particular story the author weaves culinary history, social commentary, cultural analysis, and psychological insight. The result is an amazingly satisfying "read" that educates, illuminates, moves the heart, and deepens perspective both about this one man and also about the world in which he--and we--live. Robert Clark is able to paint a descriptive and insightful portrait of both the man and that world without romanticizing either. I found myself drawn into the book and reading it with relish; not wanting to put it down and also not wanting it to come to an end; and discovering that I have been enlightened, enriched, and moved by my experience with it. Sounds to me like the definition of a "good read!"

My Favourite Bard
I read this book in my twenties and the story has stayed with me all my life. I have even been asked to read one of his poems on television from my hundred and ten year old copy of his life and works.

James Barke being the prime exponent in his knowledge of Robert Burns, has produced books of such detail about the bards early life that the reader is drawn back into the past to the Ayrshire countryside where Burns is living. Although he is a womaniser and a sometimes drunkard, he has such charm and charisma that almost everyone with whom he comes into contact cannot help but like him.

He is constantly in debt but it never seems to get him down. He scribles his hopes thoughts on anything available. He describes his contemporaries in such visible terms that you can see the poverty or the luxury in which they live.

James Barke conveys all of this in enviable detail and makes a mockery of other attempts to recontruct the life af Robert Burns. This book and the others in the series are 'must reads' for all admirers of Burns works
