It was a fun-filled and entertaining book. It had character.
I think this book is great for all ages even though the reading level is not very difficult. An adult could have fun with it because it is exciting and keeps you on the edge of your chair. I would reccomend this book as a good book for a class. They could share their insights and tell each other if they thought that they figured out the mystery. This book is great for a discussion. This is an imaginative and literate mystery that I have fully enjoyed. It really makes you think and explore your mind.

Whymper's writing achieved the summit of excellence.
As one of the early mountain climbers, Whymper was not only a dedicated climber but also an astute observer of human nature and the natural environment. His writings reflect a strong will and great intelligence. The artistry of his mountain scenes vividly illustrate his book and combined with his witty prose make for a mountaineering classic

Sea of Cortez: A Leisurely Journal of Travel and Research
Published in Hardcover by Paul P Appel Pub (1971)
Authors: John Steinbeck and Edward F. Ricketts
Amazon base price: $40.00
Collectible price: $900.00
Average review score:

A must have book for true Steinbeck fans.
A marvelous insight into John Steinbeck and his mentor/pal, Ed Ricketts ("Doc" of Cannery Row fame.). Their obvious affection and respect for the other threads throughout the text. Contains wonderful lines such as," ...in six weeks in Baja, we collected about 3000 specimens of beer.", and of course there is the Hansen Sea Cow. Their musings about a world going crazy (Hitler is on the rise in Europe during the time of the voyage) are superb. The science and biology at the back of the volume is just the icing on a most delectable cake.

Inspirational!
I live in Lubbock, Texas, where much of this story takes place, and I happen to know some of the people Dr. Ford mentions. But that was hardly the only reason I wanted to read this compassionate biography. Dr. Ford shows how her brother bravely faced AIDS and the bigotry related to it.

Despite its subject matter, this book is never depressing. Instead, Dr. Ford captures the inspirational aspects of her brother's life and how it touched the lives of people around him. I found her poems about his struggle especially touching and hope she'll share more of those in another book.

The Social Organization of Sexuality: Sexual Practices in the United States

Amazon base price: $30.00

Most Comprehensive Book on Sexuality
We have adopted this title as a textbook for our Social Aspect of Human Sexuality course. In addition to our sexuality course, I use data from The Social Organization of Sexuality: Sexual Practices in the United States for my courses in Social Statistics and Research Methods. I note the importance of employing random sampling by contrasting this data to data collected found in Shere Hite's The Hite Report: A Nationwide Study of Female Sexuality (#06963).

The Social Organization of Sexuality: Sexual Practices in the United States is clearly a scholarly book. The authors also published a volume for the general public entitled: Sex in America: A Definitive Survey. This title includes nearly the same information. However, it is much more readable, but doesn't included all the scholarly details.

At this point in time, it is not likely that readers can find a more comprehensive study on human sexuality.

A whimsical and fun book of storytelling poetry
Someone Could Win A Polar Bear is a whimsical and fun book of storytelling poetry especially suited for young readers. Illustrated with highly simplistic and abstract black-and-white caricatures, Someone Could Win A Polar Bear is lyrical, amusing, delightful, and highly recommended storytime or bedtime reading for little folks. The Rover: The rover arrived at a river./The river arrived with a roar./A ravine that the river had riven/Made its roaring reverberate more.//The river raved so that the rover/Reviled it. "Rage, river," said he./"Though you rock the ravine you have riven,/Your rage is no is no ravage to me!"//Thus ever the revenant rover/Reverts to the rhetoric of man./Than which, though it roar like a raver,/What rock-wrecking river's rage can?

fantastic book
I'm so glad they finally re-issued this book. The first copy I read was a used and vintage copy. So many books have been written about the jazz age and the swing era that it's nice to get the perspective of someone that was there. Hoagy has a wonderful way with words and writes with a wit that also shows in his movies (think To Have and to Have Not). I highly recommend this for anyone interested in American history and the history of American Classical music.

Still worth the effort
As with vol I of this set of two, the material here is somewhat dated. However, while there is more to the story then is presented in this text, this text still serves an essential purpose. For example, vol II contains detailed exposition concerning anomalie cancellation and calculation of one (and higher) -loop amplitudes, which is a subject crucial to many recent developments in string theory. Similarly, this volume's expositions on compatification (orbifold, Calabi-Yau, and so forth) and lower dimensional effects will prove both instructive / illuminating for readers wishing to begin similar investigations, or who seek to augment other sources in the literature.

Again, a compelling reason for reading this text is the insights these particular authors provide. For example, the volume's discussions of physical implications from differential / algebraic geometry are more then enough reason to purchase the text.
