A different kosher cookbook....
This cookbook is great! The recipes in here are a nice change from same, repeated Hungarian-style recipes found in every other kosher cookbook. Although the long lists of ingredients and instructions might seem daunting to some, the recipes are not difficult, and so far, every recipe I've tried from the book has come out well.

A real treasure
My husband and I have spent many happy hours choosing, preparing and eating the recipes from this cookbook. This is the cookbook for anyone who doesn't think Kosher cooking is fun, delicious and diverse. You will be a convert!

Excellent cookbook
A great selection of versatile recipes for excellent dishes. This ranks among a new generation of kosher cookbooks that is neither predominantly Eastern European nor relies on dairy substitutes.

The Definitive Classic on Prayer & Fasting!
This book explores the depths and heights of fasting in layman's terms. Arthur Wallis shows the practical and spiritual side of fasting and how effective an agent-of-change it can be. I have never read a better book on the subject. A must-read for those who wish to embark on a prayer & fasting journey. God bless you as you read this amazing little book.

Complete, concise, informative, and interesting
My pastor lent me this book after I had questions for him about fasting. I was able to read through this book in one sitting, but it pretty much addressed all of my questions. It's quite enjoyable and easy to read. It's very biblically based, but it does address the physical side of fasting as well. It's very much worth reading!

God's Chosen Fast
This book is excellent! It is short, easy to read, accurate, informative, and challenging. It doesn't have the "fluff" of more modern American books, probably because of its British origin and its age, but it is every bit current and timeless. It is not just a discourse on fasting, but a guide to understanding the situations where fasting is appropriate, even necessary, and where it is not. It helps understand where fasting belongs in the overall message of the Bible. It also contains very useful information about the practical and physical concerns involved.

simply superb
This book seems to be nothing more than another retelling of the Arthurian legends. But it is so much more than that. It majestically weaves colorful characters and intriguing storylines with a fresh plot. I highly recommend it for any fans of Celtic legends and certainly any Arthur fans.

Wow. Arthur in the Stars
In what has to be one of the most original takes on the Arthurian mythos, Patricia Kennealy-Morrison places Arthur's early years in Keltia, as a rising star and prince in the struggle to free the Keltic worlds and Keltia from the Theocracy and the Death-Druid that has taken power. All this seen though the eyes of Arthur's foster brother, who becomes one of Keltia's greatest bards and mate to Arthur's sister, Morgan. Very well done - and leaves you wanting more.

Best Arthurian Trilogy yet!!
I have been a fan of Arthurian legend forever. This series is my favorite of all time. The characters feel like friends you've known or you wish you had known. The places come alive like no book I've ever read. I knew how the story was to end but cried anyway. PKM's books are my favorite of all time. I recommend this series as well as her other series. She is a great author and shame on the publishers for not continuing with her work, the way she AND her fan/consumers wish.

Excellent choice
This is an exceptional book. Biblical, practical, lots of examples and useful tools. This book is excellent, not only for raising children who have anger problems, but great for raising any child.

Advice I could really follow
The subtitle says "Practical" and the advice really is! Not pie-in-the sky psychobabble, but direct, concrete, specific steps toward figuring out what lies behind the anger and knowing how to address it. I especially appreciate how the book doesn't waste time trying to place blame or point fingers. It just helps the parent get to work addressing the attitudes and behaviors that need correction.

Get This Book!
I have three little boys and I was concerned about some of their behaviors. Fighting, yelling, getting really mad at each other. This book answered so many questions for me it was great. He backs up everything he says with Bible verse and there are examples to help also. A lot of books hint at what could be the root of the problem but this guy lays it out in a way that is easy to understand and I have seen great improvement in my boys just in the first few days. It isn't just a book for children it is for anyone that needs to deal with an anger problem. I have felt a lot better after reading it. It heled me to see what actions I was taking that were upsetting the kids and giving them a bad example. It isn't a book that makes you feel you are a bad person. It just points out things that everybody does to some degree and just taking time to notice which things apply to you is a great help. I think everybody should get at least two of this book because it is the kind of book you want to give to a friend. If everybody read this book the world would be a better place to live in.

Two thumbs up!
I have always had trouble with interviews. After reading this book, I have more confidence and feel that I am better prepared to handle the interviewing process.

Interviewing Techniques
I was drawn to this book because it was short and easy to read. I've purchased a few other books in preparation for an upcoming interview, and I found that this was easier to skim through, because I was able to find what I was looking for without much effort. I am applying for pharmacy school soon, and my interview will play a large part in determining if I'm accepted. I can use all the help I can get, and I think this book has given me a great headstart!

Great Book
I loved reading "How to win the job interview battle.." it was easy reading, and it made sense for me. I loved the examples, it helped me to understand what the author was saying, and how to apply it in my interviews. With all of the layoffs happening around the US right now, this book could not have come at a better time. Thanks

IT'S IN GERMAN!!
When I read the earlier reviews I thought this was a sequel to the Memoirs of a Geisha, which is a great book. I don't see what I missed, what should have told me, so let me tell you directly: This is NOT a sequel, this is NOT a new book by Golden, it is Memoirs, but in GERMAN!!

Do not buy this book unless you read German; buy the Memoirs you will find elsewhere in Amazon. But if you do read German and are looking for a great novel, have at it.

I Loved It!
I had no prior knowledge about Geisha before this book, and now I can't read enough about thier interesting lives and stories. Aurthur Golden is one of the best authors I have ever read.

Being a woman...
Fantastic book. It was intriguing to read about the changes women had to go through and still do: beauty, virginity, puberty, womanhood... I finished this book in two days because of the emotion and description poured into this books writing. The metaphors and writing style were excellent. I felt like I knew the characters at the end of the book and found by self cheering for the little girl who grew up to hold her own, not only mentally but physically and emoptionally.

Doing Research in Business and Management: An introduction
Concise, reader friendly, and useable. Many research method books manage to lose or confuse the reader within the first few chapters. This book deals with most of the major issues of social science research while maintaining a practical focus. Of particular use to research masters and PhD students.

Excellent overview - strongly recommended
This is an excellent book on research methods. I would recommend that any business school Ph.D. not think a second time about buying this one. An extensive literature review at the end was very useful, although some URLs mentioned are rather wimpy and no longer working.

Essential reading for business and management post grads
This book has proved invaluable in helping me formulate my research strategy for my PhD thesis. I will continue to find it a most useful reference text.

Hurray for Frommer's!!
I planned a trip to Ireland for my Mother, 4 sisters and Myself.
I started with "Ireland for Dummies" then read "Frommer's Ireland 2001" and crossed referenced with "Ireland from $60 a Day". I learned more from these books in 2 weeks than in all of my years as a Travel Agent and Airline staff!! Their detailed in-sight and straight-forward advice was right on target. They give prices, times, phones numbers and payment information. They tell you where to go, what to do and who to talk to. I loved their list of on-line addressess for information. Only two things were wrong with my copy. They quoted every price in Irish pounds that were useless after February 2002. I realize that they had to go to print before this change and were unable to adapt in time. The other was lack of detailed mapping. A free map was included inside "Ireland 2001" but only had some of the streets shown for Dublin. I know these will be corrected in future printings. I would recommend these Frommer's books to anyone!! They are written in plain English, yet don't talk down to you(even the "Dummies" book. It was quite humorous)

Best of Travelguides
My family used Frommer's Ireland 12th Ed. extensively before, during ,and after our trip to Ireland in July of 2002. The first two chapters Best of..., and Planning your Trip... were worth the purchase price alone. All of the Best of tips we followed were excellent choices.
The large fold out map that was included served very well during our driving tour of Ireland. Using the county and town maps that were included in the local sections kept us right on track. Distances are deceptive however. It takes longer to get anywhere you go than it would appear from reading the map. The Irish road system is not built for speed ( nor comfort for that matter) so plan accordingly. It takes a long time to drive across the country, or from county to county. More could have been made of this issue in the guide. Our biggest mistake was trying to do too much.
The up to date information on Dublin was very helpful, as were the frequent tips throughout the guide on ways to avoid the summer crowds. I used the web addresses that were included for lodging and found them very helpful for checking availability and booking our rooms quickly. Don't go without it!

Frommer's Ireland, 12th ed.
My wife and I traveled around Ireland for two weeks this summer, and Frommer's Ireland was an amazingly helpful tool.

Realizing this would probably be the last time we'd be traveling abroad for a while, we decided to mix it up a bit --"inexpensive" to "moderate" accommodations and restaurants in most places, with a few dabbles in the "expensive" (and even one "very expensive") splurges along the way. Across the board, the recommendations in this book were outstanding. What to see and do, where to stay, where to eat and shop.....all were presented in a very down-to-Earth way. The eye for small detail and nuances throughout the book made us feel we were getting advice from a local expert who REALLY knows her stuff.

I can't say enough about how helpful this guide was to us -- it really made our trip a memorable one. The fold-out map got us around most of the country with no trouble....once a nice gentleman in a petrol station showed me how to get my rental car into reverse.

All in all, a terrific book.

Helpful framework but lots of missed forecasts
To its credit, ten years after this book was first published, it remains a commendable work of business futurism. One significant exception to this assessment comes from the poor record of Barker's identification of existing and coming trends for the 1990s. By now, we can see the weakness of "gambling instead of taxes", "national health care" (surely the result of Barker himself falling into a paradigm trap), "solar, hydrogen, fission" (at least ten years too early), "time taxes", "virtual reality", and others that didn't make it very far. Barker, however, is not a prophet but a guide to a more expansive way of thinking about the present and the future. Barker brings philosopher Thomas Kuhn's work on paradigms into focus with clear applications to business and any form of strategic thinking. Definitely merits a quick read by anyone interested in thinking more effectively about the future.

Paradigms: Who, What, Where, When and Why
Have you ever had an unconscious thought that could possibly change the world? Well, this is one book you won't want to miss. Barker's knowledge about paradigms will definitely assist with transforming your, "big ideas" from thoughts to reality. "Future Edge" can take any organization through a successful reformation. For instance, being an administrator in a rather large urban school district with magnet schools being the "heart" of racial integration, paradigm shifts are an on-going necessity. Barker's book has truly answered the five "W's" of paradigms.
WHO: The "Paradigm Shifters" have the big idea, however, the "Paradigm Pioneers" are the individuals who have the courage, faith and "intuitive judgment" to ensure a successful paradigm shift. Segregated schools are simply not right, and as pioneers, integrating our school is a vision that is "not an act of the head, but an act of the heart."
WHAT: What "set of rules or boundaries," or simply stated by Barker, paradigms, are in need of a facelift in your organization? Federal mandates stated that busing can no longer be the means of integration, however, our schools must reflect our world today; diverse. This mandated created a sense of urgency (Kotter) in the change process.
WHERE: "To not quest for excellence might be considered sacrilege." Raising the expectation of what success is in your organization will inevitably create a need for a paradigm shift. Current enrollment is 92% African-American, 2% Hispanic, and 6% Caucasian. Yes, this is 130% better then years previous, yet it should not be considered as integrated. The where is most likely within your organization as well!
WHEN: "Paradigm Paralysis" is what an organization will face if there is no "paradigm pioneer" to lead the conscious thought to real life. "A leader is a person you would follow to a place you wouldn't go yourself."
WHY: In conclusion, if you read this review and are highly curious as to the paradigm shift that must take place to integrate the school that I work in, then Barker has definitely fulfilled his mission of taking an individual through the process of "Discovering the New Paradigms of Success."

If you want to explore your future, read this book!
From a strategic exploration viewpoint, this is an excellent guide book. Understanding and mastering your paradigms is one important thing for making progress in life and in business, but I personaly feel that the real essence of this book is succinctly captured by the author in the five strategic exploration tools outlined in the book. They are the real gems of the book. Actually, this book is a sort of brief update of the author's earlier book, entitled Discovering the Business of Paradigms in the mid-80s. I would recommend readers to buy and read this book jointly with Wayne Burkan's Wide-Angle Vision. Wayne Burkan has been a collaborator of Joel Barker, and he introduces some more new ideas to the paradigm phenomenon. Better still, view also and learn more from the videos (in which both authors are the lead facilitators), The Paradigm Prism and The Implications Wheel, which bring the whole paradigm concept to life and which showcase some more real-world business examples. If you want to explore your future, read this book! As the author puts it, before you can create your future, you must first explore it. You must create and shape your future, otherwise some one else will!

An Inordinate Fondness for Beetles

Gorgeous and well-written--recommended
The photographs by Lisa Watson are the first thing to catch your eye about this beautifully produced book. The majority are of museum specimens, which oddly is what makes the pictures so attractive: we're used to seeing high quality pictures of wildlife, but the displays here juxtapose many different beetles and have more impact than wildlife shots would.

The pictures are beautiful but the text is high-quality too. The authors start by reciting some statistics on the number of beetle species. Linnaeus, two hundred and fifty years ago, described 654 species; and Fabricius added another 4,112 species between 1775 and 1801. By 1876 Gemminger and von Harold's catalog contained nearly 77,000 species; and when Junk and Schenkling's catalogue was completed, in 1940, it listed nearly 221,500 species. It's now estimated that there are 350,000 described beetle species. However, recent work by Terry Erwin, extrapolating from detailed studies of a small area, suggests that there are more than eight *million* species of beetle just in the tropics!

The rest of the book is a fairly detailed survey of beetles in all their aspects. The authors are enthusiasts as well as experts, and it shows in their writing, which is crisp, clear and engaging. They cover beetle anatomy, fossilized beetles, habitats and niches, the beetle life cycle, and mimicry. There is also substantial coverage of beetles and humans: naming, appearance in mythology, use as jewels (really!), a discussion of pest control, and use in education. The book has more scientific depth than is usual for a coffee table book, without sacrificing interest value.

There is a website that appears to be maintained by one of the authors (Evans) that contains some material from the book; I recommend you take a look if you are hesitating about buying this. I found it by searching for the book title using a standard search engine; when I looked it was on the Lorquin Entomological Society's website, but it may have moved.

Recommended.

Jaw-dropping beauty
This is one of the most gorgeous books I own. I look at these pictures, and I think that human beings could not dream up jewelry that touches the beauty of these creatures. It is utterly unbelievable! Every time I page through this book my jaw is open in disbelief. They are so breathtaking they almost bring tears to my eyes. Okay. Confession time. They HAVE brought tears to my eyes.

This book is stunning!
Not only does this book have absolutely gorgeous photographs of many species of beatles, the factual content of the book is also very good. Not dumbed down, yet not inaccesible by the general public. Overall Excellent!
