365 Eloquent Quotes
Besides authoring the Declaration of Independence, serving as our third president, and founding a university, Thomas Jefferson said a lot of intelligent things, and 365 of the most eloquent and quotable are collected here. My only beef with this book is the organization of the quotes, which is for some reason "a saying per day" (e.g. May 6), when there is no hint that he made the statement on that day, or that there is any connection at all between the day and the quote. If it were a calendar pad with tear-off sheets, that would make more sense. In any event, the index enables you to find quotes by subject, and you may find yourself reading through the entire list, marking your favorites for later.

Neat little book
Nice little book displaying Jefferson's not-so kind views on contemporary Christianity and other religious mythologies. You aren't going to learn a bunch of stuff about Jefferson from this book, but its a nice source for sayings and quotations.

A Friend of the Indians-Savior of a People
Near the end of the wild and free days on the plains, when the bison were almost gone and the Indians were moved to the reservations to starve and die, a man of courage and decency realized that a great people and culture were about to be exterminated by a corrupt branch of the federal government. Thomas Henry Tibbles devoted the later half of his life to fighting the federal bureaucracy which was systematically murdering the remanants of the Ponca Indians. The book tells Mr Tibbles story from his youth as farm child in Ohio and Illinois, his adventures in bleeding Kansas before the civil war, the years he spent with several tribes in Kansas and Nebraska and finally his winning fight to free the Indians from the corrupt reservation system. The story of his time with the Indians is well worth reading. Mostly, this is a great story of a man devoted to a worthwhile cause.

excellent resource for your search
I read several books on hiring a nanny, and this was the most comprehensive and well written resource I came across. I ordered it after speaking with the author on the telephone. I was very impressed by her during our conversation and remained impressed after reading her book. Finding and hiring the right nanny for your family is one of the most serious undertakings you will ever face. Cora Hilton Thomas gives you the information to tackle this task with confidence.

In the waning months of the year 1929, the New York Stock Exchange was going strong. Millions of small and large investors poured their life savings into the pool of speculative issues, hoping for a big return on their gamble. On Black Tuesday, October 29th, the dream came to a crashing halt. This is the heart wrenching tale of that fateful day: the giddy years that preceded it, and the miserable decade that followed in it's wake. Sterling drama, with many poignant stories of the principal movers and shakers of Wall Street...before the Bubble burst.

Nicely written, Kid-friendly Dolphin story
This is a story about a newborn Bottleneck dolphin's first day in the ocean. It is nicely written and illustrated but the kid friendly story line takes away slightly from the factual information. Even so, both my children (2 year-old and 4 year-old) and I really enjoy this book and others in this "Smithsonian Ocean Series" especially Manatee Winter.

THE LUCKIEST DAY OF YOUR LIFE
I liked very much each one of the final parts of the book. I'm a fanatic reader of this books, of the "Choose your own adventure". I live in Argentina, so I've only read half of the collection.

The Death of Outrage: Bill Clinton and the Assault on American Ideals

An ESSENTIAL investigation of a devastating event
The author's effort shines through in this work as someone genuinely concerned for the welfare of people. I say people as a general term because Anderson puts this horrific event into a context that shows how relevant it was and still is for humankind as a whole. The people of El Salvador suffered greatly in the 80's and 90's, but there was a precursory event 50 years before that was even in scope.

Thomas Becket: The Last Days
Published in Hardcover by Sutton Publishing (1999)
Authors: William Urry and Henry Mayr-Harting
Amazon base price: $34.95
Used price: $8.00
Average review score:

An Excellent History
What makes this book particularly appealing is that this was released after the authors death. It was the admiration and dedication of Mayr-Harting is resonsible for the book's release, and the reader is thankful for it. After a moving Introduction about Urrey and his love of Canterbury by Mayr-Harding, the book starts and does not let go.

This book is perfect for armchair historians who know about the martyrdom and wants to know "what really happened". It is highly detailed, but not to the point of boredom. And it is blessedly edited for a reader, not a scholar. While the author seems to have definite opinions about certain figures, he is decidedly neutral about Becket, stating events as they occur. But, after reading this book, one comes away with a much shrewder version of the Saint. It's pretty clear that Thomas knew he was going to die and he was not going away quietly. Even though you know what is going to happen, it actually builds tension. Urrey spares nothing as he graphically (and I do mean graphic!)describes the murder. Which brings me to my only complaint. The author gives and enjoyable and fascinating background to the four murderers, but does not give any information on them after the murder. Not even a "no more records are given after this."

That aside, I highly recommend this book. It's a shame that the author is no longer with us. I would love to have heard what else he would have liked to say.
